About this property

Sunny apartment overlooking Canal du Midi in Capestang, walk to 6 restaurants!

Capestang is a lively and popular wine-producing village with plenty of character and a friendly population. The village square at the foot of the impressive 13th century church has cafes and restaurants and is the setting for a twice-weekly market selling fresh local produce (olives, cheeses, wines and oysters to name but a few!). Capestang has all facilities (banks with ATMs, large supermarkets, bakeries, pharmacy, doctors, dentist, etc.). Easily accessible, with budget flights to Beziers airport 35 minutes away, Carcassonne, Montpellier and Perpignan airports about 1 hour's drive away, Toulouse and Girona 2 hours.
This first-floor apartment is a very successful combination of old and new, with wonderful exposed beams - one of 14 different designs in a former winery converted some twenty years ago. It is light, airy and very spacious (960 sq.ft.) - the large open plan kitchen area is excellently equipped, while the lounge / dining room opens onto the sunny south-facing terrace with barbecue, overlooking the port. There is a bathroom and separate WC. The large airy mezzanine area has comfortable seating and a flat-screen TV. Unlimited broadband internet is included in the price.

Great stop for exploring
Well located in easy reach of the beach (30 min to Vendres) and the beautiful little towns dotted through the countryside. Make sure you visit the tourist office when you arrive for recommendations of where to visit. They also sell wonderful local wine in there. Vendres beach is perfect if you have small children. You can find shallow water and you can rent sun loungers in one is the cafes on the beach.

By the canal
Well equipped apartment on the edge of Capestang, an easy walk into the small town where there are small shops and restaurants or along the canal tow path as far as you like. Wonderful views as far as the Pyrenees from the church tower - tours twice a week. Plenty of places in the locality to taste and buy wine. As other reviewers have said, the bedrooms are very small, and the lights in the bathroom are positively dim (led bulbs should be considered!), but the main living areas are generously proportioned. It was a good centre from which to explore this interesting area.

Spacious apartment in great location
The apartment is large, spacious and has good facilities. The bedrooms are on the small side but like others, we slept in the double room and used the other bedroom as a dressing room. We did think the apartment could do with a better clean. There were too many spider webs and some had obviously been there for a very long time; the sofa bed upstairs had lots of dog hairs on; there were remnants of peanuts and crisps on the floor. Another problem is the shower, which sprays everywhere once the water is turned on because the shower head moves of its own accord and then jumps out of the bracket when turned off. The balcony area is large with a bbq, sun loungers, table and chairs - a great space for sunbathing, meals and watching the boats go by on the Canal. All in all, with a little more TLC this would be a very good apartment. Capestang is a lovely village. The port is really attractive, the market is great for fresh produce and there are some good restaurants. We hired bikes from Velogenie and cycled along the Canal paths to the 9 locks at Bezier. It is also easy to get to many other places from Capestang.

Great apartment in a superb location made for a wonderful holiday
We have stayed in the area on holiday for the last few years but this was the best yet. The apartment is spacious and very well equipped. The outside terrace had a great view of the Canal du Midi and was a perfect place to sit and relax both during the day and evening. Yes we agree with earlier reviews that the bedrooms are a little snug, but don't be put off, they are only for sleeping in. The rest of the apartment makes up for it with oodles of space. Capestang has all you need for day to day living and the Sunday market is particularly good for fresh fruit, meat and veg, as well as a good selection of cooked food. The fancy cakes from the boulangerie in the town square were awesome. The beach is within easy reach by car and of course Carcassonne is always worth a day out. As a serious cyclist I was in heaven. Loads of quiet lanes to cycle on as well as the traffic free canal paths stretching for miles each way. Cycle to Le Someil for the best choice of canal side lunch restaurants in the whole area.. All in all we had a great two weeks holiday in a great apartment in a great location.
