La Fattoria la Scheggia, a typical example of Grand-Ducal architecture, is a small rural hamlet dating back to the 15th century that was completely restored in the ‘80s under the Association of Historical Dwellings of Tuscany. The farmhouse is surrounded by a large garden. The restoration of the building was carried out in observance of the simplicity of the old rural dwellings built with stone, terracotta tiles and chestnut beams. The landscape has remained unchanged for centuries. Broad conifers and woods of oak and chestnut trees are scattered with archaeological remains dating back to Etruscan, Roman and Lombard times. It is a crossroads that for centuries was travelled by merchants, troops, shepherds and pilgrims which climbed these paths to reach the places of contemplation. Very good trattorias nearby. Anghiari, the nearest medieval town, 8 km. Arezzo, Siena, Florence, Cortona, Montalcino, Pienza, Cetona. Sansepolcro, Città di Castello,Gubbio,Urbino, Assisi, Spello Perugia

Margherita Delle Piane purchased this farmhouse in 1890
La Scheggia is the country house where I spent my summer vacations with my my grandparents. In 1978 my Grandmother has restored the property, a XV C° Hamlet ,and has trasformed the big farm into nice accomodations for our guests,
In 2008 my mother has opened La Scheggina agritourism which includes
the best accomodations of the small hamlet.

We were met by 'housekeeper' who spoke no English, she showed us the pool & handed over to the owner on the phone who told us where the nearest restaurant & supermarket were & after that there was nobody to ask anything. Downstairs is one room: lounge/diner with kitchen in 1 corner. Bathroom is in need of updating, handheld shower with no wall fitting. Wifi intermittent, at best 1 hour per day some days not at all. Cottage very dark with a bad smell when left closed up for the day. Nice private area with sofa & chairs at the side of the house but often so windy we couldn't sit there (in. August). Pool & surrounding area well kept, not enough beds for number of people using it so some people took their own chairs. There is a restaurant a short walk (by road) from the cottage, limited menu but OK & reasonably priced. There are a number of towns in reach of the cottage for day trips. We went to Florence (1 hour by train from Arezzo), Siena, lake Trasimano (about 2 hours drive).
