Wireless internet and UK TV, DVD players plus children's games available to complete your stress free holiday.

We are on hand to welcome you to the casita, help with any information on local bars, restaurants, places to see, the best times to visit the famous Alhambra Palace and any other questions you may have.

Water supply!: An important question to ask when staying in rural Spain is 'What happens when the water is cut off?' as this happens a lot - there may be a repair needed or a shortage of water in the area - and you rarely get any warning!. We have a back up system of 1000 litres at the flick of a switch -so there is no inconvenience to our guests. Check this point before booking your holiday!

Home Produce & Green/ Eco friendly: Our vegetable garden supplies us and our guests with fresh produce. We also have our own fruit; oranges, lemons, limes, apricots, plums, nectarines, pears and kaki for all to enjoy in season!

We are very keen to reduce our affect on the surroundings and we now have a highly efficient solar system for our hot water

We have hens and ducks for our own supply of eggs and pigs also make an appearance at our place from around June to January! Turkeys, peacocks and LLAMAS complete the menagerie!. Don't worry, they are all at a short distance from the casita but great fun to visit - especially for the children.

Birds abound! So many different species of birds can be seen and heard- from Nightingales to the amazing Golden Orioles and Eagles.

About Kay and Bernie

We moved to Spain from the Surrey / Hampshire area of southern England. There we both had normal jobs and brought up our 4 sons, played plenty of tennis and had a very busy life. Our sons, now all adults, visit frequently but live either in London, UK or the U.S. We have been described as a variation on The Good Life's Tom and Barbara but I am not so sure!! We do have 2 dogs, 4 cats a dozen hens, turkeys, a variety of ducks, peacocks, llamas and July to Feb we have pigs. We now spend most of our time tending the garden and the animals plus producing vegetables when we have the time!

Kay and Bernie purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Kay and Bernie chose Sierra Nevada Area

The 360º views and the proximity to the coast, the mountains with the ski-ing and Granada city.

What makes this cottage unique

Now only 1½ hours from Malaga airport it is so easy to reach. Only 1 hour from Granada

Guestbook comments from the owner

The property is presented to an excellent standard with all mod cons yet having the feel of a truly rustic Andalucian home. The views are spectacular from every window and the property is nestled in a lovely secluded garden with a beautiful outside pool and seating area. The hosts are charming and are always looking to make sure your stay is enjoyable but yet not intrusive on your stay. The home is spotless with all mod cons such as WiFi, TV etc. If you want a break from the hassle of life and need your batteries recharged this is the place to stay. Excellent all round!

Excellent hospitality

  • 5 of 5

The Casita was nice and the outdoor spaces were fantastic. They clearly take a lot of pride in their homestead. But the real draw was the excellent hospitality of Kay and Bernie. Both were happy to chat about the area and their animals. Kay was very attentive to the needs of the two small children in our group; setting up cribs, pulling out age appropriate toys/books, and offering home remedies for upset tummies. Thanks for the lovely stay!

Well set out, comfortable and clean

  • 4 of 5

We liked this villa. It is clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. The location of the pool near the apartment meant that we all felt safe if some of us where in the pool and other in the apartment. There are lots of shady areas to sit and relax in, some at pool side. The Wifi was ok in the villa but not enough to stream anything and patchy at poolside. The TV had english satellite (BBC, ITV and C4 with some shopping channels etc) . There is a DVD and a selection of DVDs .

The welcome pack was great. I now know how good gazpacho soup is and how appropriate in the hot Andalusian weather.

The area is very pretty but very noisy at night. The locals start partying when the sun goes down.

It was less than an hour drive to a beach (we went to Salobreña).

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review -good to hear you had an enjoyable holiday. When there is a fiesta the locals do enjoy dancing the night away. Often the best way is to join them for a memorable evening. It doesn't last very long and in the rural Alpujarra region it is wonderful to see how simply the local families make a fiesta from nothing! The wifi here in the Alpujarras is adequate for normal use but downloading on a large scale as one would in the city or in the UK is not something that is usually wanted in the depths of southern Spain when there is so much to appreciate around us.

Blissful

  • 5 of 5

“ Las Chimeneas, Cerro Negro, Orgiva.

Ive never had such a relaxing few days’ away before. Las Chimeneas, owned and run by Kay and Bernie is a true home from home, in a blissful setting. The Casita, where a friend and I stayed is attached to the main house, yet our privacy was total. A most generous welcome pack of delicious local produce awaited us, and the kitchen facilities ensured that we lacked for nothing. The Gardens are open for tea, sandwiches and cakes on Wednesdays - all home made and delicious. I’m not sure who made the lemonade…Kay or Bernie - but its truly the best I have ever tasted.

The pool was perfect, not too cold, deep enough for a proper swim, and kept spotlessly cleaned daily. Kay kindly brought us extra garden veggies on request ( thats not part of the deal - she did it from kindness ) and it was lovely to have the animals all around, but kept in the owners’ private area.

Cats, however, will roam, and our holiday was positively enhanced by two Ginger Ninjas who joined us by the pool daily,They were both extremely polite and were most welcome. As I was only there for 4 nights, I had little chance to partake of the wider areas. However, I can say that for anyone looking for more diversion, there seems to be a lot.

Kitty, the local taxi driver took me for a lovely outing to Granada; She was great company, and we had a splendid detour on the way home, she’s good at telling you all about the area, its history and habits.

Orgiva is a charming town ( I wish I'd researched Don Quixote beforehand ) which has everything you need for self-catering supplies.

If, like me, you are looking for somewhere to relax, eat well, be lazy, then this is your place.

As the great Arnie said: “ I’ll be back “

Beautiful Casita and gardens

  • 5 of 5

We were recommend this casita in Orgiva by a friend and we are over the moon that we booked our holiday in Granada.

The Casita is about 50 minutes away from Granada airport, which is where we picked up our hire car. After getting used to driving on the other side of the road the drive to Orgiva was fairly straight forward, albeit around some extremely windy roads up the mountain. The views are amazing and well worth taking you’re time around the twists and turns. As a passenger, its such a treat to just take it all in. Owners Kay and Bernie sent us directions as to how to get to the casita, we followed them and didn’t make one wrong turn, easy-peasy!

On arrival we were greeted by Kay and was shown around. Oh what a place. The Orgivia tea garden is a delight for the eyes. The casita itsself is beautiful and decorated in a traditional spanish way with all of the mod cons. It’s extremely clean and well kept. We felt straight at home.

The pool is very clean with a poolside table tennis table and sun loungers. There’s a table under a canopy right next to the pool which is where we ate all of our meals, the views are just beautiful. There are lemon, orange and olive tress everywhere - which as a bit of a plant lover, I was in heaven!

You’re free to walk around the Orgiva tea garden and meet the animals - dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, peacocks, turkeys, llama’s and frogs from the lily pad pond. We also took advantage of the tea and cake which is served every Wednesday when the gardens are open to the public. Kay bakes the most delicious homemade cakes which you can enjoy under the tress next to the pond. There are also sandwiches and homemade ice cream available.

Overall, we loved staying in the casita and haven’t got a bad word to say about it!

If you’re after a quiet getaway in a beautiful location with your own private pool - this is the place to come!

You can make it as action packed or as relaxed as you want. We booked a day trip to visit the stunning Alhambra in Granada, visited the beach and went to the ‘White Villages’ in Pampaneira, Bubion and Capileira - stunning views right at the top of the mountains! All in all so much to see and do!

We’ll be back again!!

A real holiday in a beautiful setting.

  • 5 of 5

Our third stay in what feels like a home from home. The casita has everything we need and our own cat to fuss every day. The garden continues to develop with new projects every year and the setting can't be bettered. What else did it need- well llamas of course!

Sit by the pool, go to the beach, or up the mountain, or potter around the garden, it's always too soon to come home.
