Ideal for two families - Sleeps 10. Wonderful private spaces.
A large, architect designed, private villa near Caminha. The accommodation is immaculate and looks out onto a heated pool and landscaped garden that are hidden from outsiders by high walls. The villa accommodates two families with ease. There are two master bedrooms with double beds and en-suite bathrooms, a shared bathroom and two further bedrooms, one with twin bunks and one with two singles. Two PlayStations, games, DVDs, CDs and a large table football will keep the children (and dads) happy when they are not splashing in the heated pool or running in the large garden. The nearby fortified medieval market towns are picturesque and well maintained. This is a green and hilly region where the well-to-do Portuguese go to on holiday. It is quiet but it has plenty of restaurants, bars and cafes. The villa is about 10 minutes by car from a series of golden sandy beaches that stretch for many miles. The local beach has riverside area sheltered from the surf. Over the river is Spain.
Getting There: Flying to Porto is the easiest way to get to Caminha. It will be necessary to have a car. We will provide detailed directions from the car-hire area at Porto airport to the doorstep of the Villa. It takes about an hour to drive along an almost empty motorway with some spectacular views.

Wonderful Caminha Villa
About the Owner
About Anna Stroud
We are Anna and Adrian, a couple with three teenage daughters living in the UK near London. Anna is the one who does the bookings and sorts everything out for our guests. Anna is Portuguese on her mother’s side which explains at least one of those other languages. Adrian, though making vague promises about learning Portuguese, still struggles with much more than ordering a coffee.
Anna Stroud purchased this villa in 2005
Why Anna Stroud chose Caminha
Anna lived in Portugal as a child and still has strong family connections there. We wanted a holiday home big enough for us to share with family and friends so it had to be four bedrooms with plenty of communal and private space. Initially we looked at renovations and more rural settings further from the coast. Our minds were instantly changed by the wow factor of this house with its sleek minimalism mixed with traditional rustic stone walls. We wanted some nightlife nearby for us and for teenagers but nothing too commercialised and not too close. We feel it hits that balance perfectly. The whole local environment is safe and civilised but full of activity. The houses nearby are all by the same architect. They fit into the landscape effortlessly and by deliberate design give each other complete privacy. With beautiful local market towns and Porto only an hour away – it simply ticked every box for us.
What makes this villa unique
We saw other houses of the same quality in the region but they all had something that that we felt compromised them in some way – like being by a busy road or having a garden that was overlooked or even just feeling too much like a residential home rather than somewhere special for holiday. In this case we felt there was no compromise, simply nothing we would change. The exterior rustic walls completely hide the house with no windows visible from the outside. It is only when you go inside that you discover how special it is. Spacious, light-filled rooms have wall-to wall windows overlooking the pool and garden. The roof overhangs to ensure you can enjoy the view without being dazzled or overheated by the direct sun. The architect has done his job very well.

Wonderful Caminha Villa
We really enjoyed the stay in our Caminha villa as it is located in a perfect spot to explore the Minho region in Northern Portugal. The road system is excellent whether you take the major roads or the scenic side roads. There is much to see and do in and around Caminha and we especially enjoyed the fortress at Valenca and her sister town, Tui, across the Minho ind Spain. We were also enthralled by Oporto which is a short drive from Caminha. The people of Caminha were wonderful and treated us as friends. The most enjoyable time of the day was when we headed back to our lovely villa and enjoyed its comforts. The villa is very spacious, private and relaxing with large windows that open to the pool area, lawns and surrounding hills. Anna the owner of the property was very reponsive and provided us with all the help and information that we needed for our stay. We will always remember our time in Caminha and our first thoughts will be of our lovely villa which we would return to in a heartbeat.
Excellent villa in lovely location
This villa was ideal for two families to share for a wonderful two week break. Superb facilities and amble room with a refreshing pool to cool off. The area is also beautiful and there are lots of places to visit. I would recommend this to anyone without doubt.
Beautiful modern villa in great location
We booked the villa for a week in early October for some winter sunshine. We took the owner's recommendation for car hire (who were half the price of the larger companies!) and were met at the airport with our rental car. The villa was straight forward drive from Porto airport and easy to find on the private development thanks to the helpful instruction pack we received beforehand.
The villa itself is absolutely stunning, modern, stylishly decorated, very spacious and superbly equipped. The villa is very private and not overlooked with plenty of space for lounging by the pool. The weather was great throughout our stay and the heated pool was warm enough for a dip (even in early October!). We loved the log fire in the lounge in the evenings and used the outdoor BBQ most days.
The welcome pack on arrival with lots of information and recomendations about the surrounding area was really useful, we explored the very pretty Caminha (5mins drive away) as well as towns further along the coast.
The villa is fully loaded with toys - we hooked our iPods up to the sound system in the day and raided the DVD collection in the evening. There were also a couple of PS2's and lots of games as well as books and board games, oh and a table football for good measure too!
We had a great week and would definately stay again.
Great family-friendly location
We didn't know this particular part of north Portugal before, but Caminha has fantastic child-friendly beaches nearby (although not far from surfer beaches like Afife also). We didn't have time to explore walks in the hills nearby, but there's more than enough to do in the towns and villages nearby, with 'festas' seeming to occur somewhere nearby throughout the summer.
The villa itself is very clean, and has all the conveniences you need. The swimming pool is a good size, and the heating is easy to operate. You can sit around the pool very happily, even with small ones, as its been designed so toddlers are safe from the edge. Table football and an extensive DVD library will keep older ones happy when they get tired of the pool. The interior design is well thought out (and very stylish!) - but the layout's very practical and the large windows have push-button shutters so its easy to keep cool inside even on hot days.
Saying that, the climate in this part of Europe is wonderfully temperate, and it never seems to get oppressively hot. There is a river not too far away at Vilar de Mouros that is a great place to cool of and have a freshwater swim.
We would have loved to stay longer - its a relaxing place to be, and feels very unspoilt for a beach holiday location. You do need a hire car go get about, but the roads never seem particularly busy, and there is more than enough to do in the vicinity to mean that most activities are within 20-30 minutes of the villa.
Wonderful discovery ;Switzerland with beaches
This is a very luxurious, ultra modern villa, with masses of space. The pool is practical and of a good size. The parking is secure and enough for several cars and groups, behind very substantial gates. Ideal for both family, groups or romantic couples just getting away from it all. The area is a real ' discovery', having the scenic views of switzerland, yet the water sports & beaches of the med with weather to match. Eating out is both very good value, compared with UK or France, with very large choice. This includes both spectacular river valley views, historic narrow streets, or sophisticated beach bars. The kitchen is well equiped, with more than enough plates etc for guests.
The owner provided a very comprehensive guide to area & helpful customer service, including ' photographic' landmarks / directions right back to Airport Hire car depot. Every need or requirement has been thoroughly thought through & tested, over the years one suspects. A safe, comfortable & practical villa. everything is provided, all you need to do is get on a plane. Highly recommended
I am so sad it is not available
We have stayed here three times - Anna was very helpful in booking and advising us about how to get there and where to go.
We went as a family, liked in so much we took friends then went backa third time with more family!
The villa has EVERYTHING you need - even things like wine that can be replaced, swimming, surfing gear etc.
its in a beautiful spot and there is so much to see around there. The scenery is fab, the food was wonderful and the kids did not want to leave the house. There were even cds, dvds and gameboys.
So sad you are already booked for half term !

Activity and Interests
The villa is a few minutes by car from Caminha which is a historic market town with medieval walls, cobbled streets, bars, cafes and restaurants. Vila Nova de Cerveira is perhaps 15 minutes away by car. It has a similar historic centre with bars and cafes but it also has a wonderful outdoor Saturday market. Viana do Castelo and Ponte de Lima are about 20 minutes by car, they are the largest local towns and both offer historical interest. This coast has mile after mile of beach with golden sand. It is the Atlantic so there is no shortage of surf and it is popular with surfers. The nearest beach is in Caminha about 7km from the villa, this has a sheltered spot inside the mouth of the beautiful Minho river. The next beach is Moledo which is rather trendy and a few km on from there is Ancora which is a bit more commercial, after that Afife which is huge and wide-open. There are small bars and restaurants at all the beaches. Porto is an easy-going one hour drive with spectacular views.
Other Activities: Surf board, boogie boards and wetsuits of various sizes are supplied by prior arrangement.
