Luxury farmhouse in a central location

Overview

Property

Updated: 05-Dec-2016
Where luxury & affordability combine to provide the perfect holiday retreat.

After meandering through leafy lanes into the sleepy village of Vilatan, you’ll discover the recently restored farmhouse of Campo Verde. In the charming interior of the house, open stone walls and solid wooden beams combine to create a traditional feel. With its tiled floors, stylish soft furnishings and homely finishing touches, this is a home that exudes comfort and quality. Outside, there are manicured lawns and nestled in one corner of the garden is a steel framed gazebo which provides welcome shade - the perfect place to enjoy the rural views over afternoon tea. At one end of the property an enclosed, stone-floored patio is an ideal spot for dining alfresco. The accommodation comprises; Master double bedroom with en-suite shower-room, twin bedded room, a second shower-room, spacious lounge, dining room and fully equipped kitchen with all mod-cons. Take a Virtual Tour of the house and gardens by clicking on the Owner’s Website link at the foot of this page

A RICH HISTORY: In the nearby village of Escairon you will find most local amenities; supermarkets, banks, restaurants, bars, post office, tourist information office. The village also boasts a municipal open-air swimming pool (open during the summer). The river beach at A Cova on the river Mino is a short car drive away. The area, Ribeira Sacrá, boasts many local fiestas. The nearby town of Monforte de Lemos offers a wider choice of services. Despite its appearance and size, Monforte is in fact a city. It’s most prominent features are the monastery of San Vicente do Pino and the Torre de Homenaxe, both perched high on a hill in the centre of the town dominating the surrounding area. Another building of historic interest is the convent of the Franciscanas Descalzas. Within the convent is the Nais Clarisas museum which contains some of the highest quality religious artifacts in the whole of Spain.

THINGS TO DO: Campo Verde is an excellent base from which to discover the charm of the Ribeira Sacrá. The area boasts one of the greatest concentrations of Romanesque Art in Spain. Take a leisurely cruise in one of the catamarans on the river Sil or Mino. On the other hand you could just lay back and enjoy the sun on a river beach, like that at A Cova.

In addition to exploring the area by car we would also recommend that you take time out to do some walking and bird watching or enjoy a round of golf. If relaxation is your aim why not visit a thermal spa and let the hot sulphurous waters soothe away your aches and pains or simply relax in the warm Galician sunshine reading a book as time gently slips by. Whatever you choose to do Campo Verde is the perfect holiday retreat.

Craig & Melanie, the owners, have produced an immaculate holiday home as a result of high quality building, superb finishes and an incredibly knowledgeable attention to detail. Their own descriptions of the property are understated. This is five star and sets the standard.

In addition to the superb interior, there are outside terraces which provide comfortable sitting areas to suit the orientation of the sun, and which, therefore, provide shade, when needed, throughout the day.

Information, by way of a detailed household manual and visitors guide, had been painstakingly assembled and provides all the information necessary to make the most of the stay of whatever duration. This enables Guests to make the most of the time available without missing the essential viewing.

The house is ideally situated to be a superb base from which to visit the major towns and cities of Galicia, none of which is out of reach for a day trip, from this centrally located village of friendly Galicians.

This property provides a very rare opportunity to experience a holiday home which has been created by people who care and who know what is required to make your stay exceptional.

Great quality & good value!

  • 5 of 5

The farmhouse was a great base from which to explore a lovely quiet part of Galicia. There is lots to see & do nearby but you will definitely need some form of transport to make the most of it. The house was well equipped & had plenty of space so it was ideal for our family. The outside space was a huge plus for us too! The owners were really helpful too & a minor problem with the DVD player was resolved very quickly.

A real home from home. All rooms well equiped including the kitchen.Outside had places to dine and places to relax. We felt very secure with plenty of space to park the car or cars.Craig and Melanie (owners and very nice people) visited us on Sunday morning and gave us helpful information about location, suggestions for sightseeing etc.We had excellent day visits to Chantada for shopping, coffee and Tapas. Also day visits to Lugo,Monforte de Lemos, and of course to Santiago de Compostela. The road system in the North of Spain is fantastic which made driving a pleasure. Our favourite restaurant was called Obatuxo right on the river bank and very close to the house. The countryside in this part of Spain is beautiful just like the house we stayed in.We would definitely recommend this location and house to our friends.

Lovely restored farmhouse

  • 5 of 5

Campo Verde is indeed a lovely immaculate restored farmhouse with all the comforts of home. It was our Spanish retreat for a week and it fulfilled our every need. During the day we toured Galicia landmarks and returned to the outdoor comforts of our gazebo in the garden with a bottle of wine. At night we sat in front of a fire then turned in on crisp linen to sleep cozily until daylight peeked through the floor to ceiling window enclosures. We walked the lanes of the sleepy hamlet, watched the sheep play and on occasion did our best to converse, in our "hablamos un poco de español", with our neighbours. Our hosts Craig and Melanie Briggs provided everything, indeed more than we could have ever expected. I would recommend Campo Verde to anyone who plans to visit Galicia. They will leave, as we did, with the best of memories.

nothing else can compare

My sister and I shared a week at this lovely farmhouse. I would like to share some of my memories with you. Stone walls and ceiling beams, beautifully decorated and meticulously clean.Sitting outside under the gazebo having quiet peaceful and serene moments. Looking outside the kitchen window watching the new born lambs bouncing throughout the field. Taking leisurely walks on the rural roads saying hello to the local villagers and feeling safe. I would like to send a big thank you to the the host of this lovely farmhouse. One day I would love to return. I would recommend anyone to stay at this awesome home.

Location

From the Owner

Campo Verde is situated in the heart of the Galician countryside in the village of Vilatan. It’s an ideal location from which to explore Galicia and northern Portugal. They bought the house as a ruin, without water or electricity. Using local craftsmen they painstakingly converted it into the luxury farmhouse it is today. Their attention to detail and desire to retain as many original features as possible can be seen throughout the property.

Facilities

From the Owner

There are wonderful walks right from the front door along paths and caminos. Tiny hamlets scatter the countryside with pastures for sheep and cattle. It’s a wonderful place for bird watchers and in spring wildflowers blanket the landscape. Perhaps Campo Verde’s main attraction is its central location providing visitors quick and easy access to Galicia’s main attractions; Santiago de Compostela, Lugo, Ourense, the coast, The Camino de Santiago, the fjord-like canyon of the river Sil, to name but a few.
