Stylish, beautifully decorated villa with pool and large garden, in small village set in the heart of spectacular Cathar country. Modern, open-plan kitchen leading onto dining area which in turn leads onto lounge, glazed on two sides with patio doors opening onto huge covered terrace overlooking the pool, 9m x 3.9m (Maximum depth 1.9m, minimum 1.1m ) and garden. There are plenty of sunloungers and 2 huge parasols for extra shade round the pool The covered patio also provides plenty of shade during day and gets late evening sun for relaxed dining. Teak patio furniture for 8 and plenty of room for the BBQ! Sunny, 2000m2 garden has a large grassy area to the rear of the house overlooking fields, which is ideal for childrens games. A small stream runs along the edge of the garden.

The house is on the edge of Rivel, a small quiet village of around 200 people with a medieval centre. It is 5 minutes drive from the small attractive town of Chalabre. Chalabre has several restaurants and bars, a pharmacy, bank (with cash point) small supermarkets, butchers and vegetable shops. Weekly market.

Mont Segur and several other famous Cathar strongholds are within easy reach. The ski station of Mont D'Olmes is 45 minutes away.

There is a nice restaurant with a safe childrens play area 10 minutes walk from the house. Tennis courts are available in village centre.

More than lovely!

Perfect house, fully equipped and very happy to have stayed there! Sorry we had to go home...

Especially the pool and spacious porch were fantastic. Superb spot in the neighborhood with lots of things to do, see and experience. (all information in the house of course...). Beautifull landscape in the area and the communication with the owners of the house was kind and good. Will definately recommend and we will come back again!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely review and hope to see you again. Yes, the large porch overhanging the terrace is lovely when you're eating and shade is needed when it's it's very hot. The large table for eight people fits very nicely underneath, with plenty of room for everyone and a nice view of the pool and garden.

A lovely villa in a beautiful location

We were a large group - 7 adults and 2 babies - and the villa was much appreciated by all. Very roomy, excellent facilities, clean, tidy and well maintained. Despite the autumnal weather, we made good use of the heated pool (large, clean and warm!) and Rivel is a lovely spot from which to explore the region. We were provided with lots of information on the operation of the villa's heating systems, the kitchen / laundry equipment etc and lots of useful info on local facilities and places to visit. We had a wonderful time!

Beautiful villa, stunning gardens, pool & views

Just returned from the most wonderful holiday in Rivel. Reached via a picture-perfect tree lined avenue, the villa is beautiful; very clean, homely and better equipped than our own home, Sue has thought of everything, which made for a very easy, stress free, idyllic holiday. The large garden is stunning and very private with spectacular hillside views (made even more lovely by visiting donkeys in the field next to the house and the sound of cow bells on the hillside!). The pool was fantastic, and being larger than average it was roomy enough to swim lengths, even when our 3 children plus inflatables were in the pool! This, combined with the extensive gardens and lovely patio area, well equipped with loungers, parasols, dining table etc meant we enjoyed several relaxing days "at home" . Lots to see and do in the immediate area, and within a short drive; our favourite place being the beautiful town of Mirepoix, around 20 minutes away (fantastic market on Mondays and look out for the vide grenier (attic sale/flea markets on certain Sundays). Lovely family friendly restaurant 10 minutes walk away. Sue made the booking process so easy and stress free, she maintained regular contact with us prior to the holiday, answered all of our questions and provided so much additional information on the house and surrounding area. Thank you Sue for a perfect holiday. We'll definitely be back !

It's not just a holiday home for us. The view from the garden over the little stream and up the valley is lovely, particularly now the hedges have matured and made the garden very private. We love sitting on the terrace in the evening with a glass of wine listening to the tinkling of the cowbells as the cows wander home, as we watch the sun go down over the hill Thank you for your kind comments about ease of booking, it was a pleasure to have you stay. A wonderful setting for nature and scenery

This villa is in a lovely rural setting on the edge of the small village of Rivel. We found it to be fully equipped to relax and to eat comfortably inside or outside on the large patio next to the pool. There are dramatic open views from the house up the valley and a stream winding round the end of the garden. We were there in the spring time and saw two woodpeckers, buzzards and an exotic colourful bird called a hoopoe. We could hear cuckoos all around although unsurprisingly did not see them. There are walking tracks in all directions from the house, with a choice of hill walks or flat paths to explore. We went on the dedicated walking and cycling path along the old railway track into Chalabre, a village 4k away, which has bakers, restaurants and a grocer.

We loved the mediaeval market town of Mirepoix about 20k away, with its impressive church and a busy market every Monday. We had lunch at a restaurant popular with the local inhabitants called St Maurice, located in the central town square and we can highly recommend it. For our special birthday celebration four of us dined at the Chateau de Camon, our second visit there - it is about 20 minutes from Rivel in a very reasonably priced taxi.The food and the ambience are high-end and ideal for a special event.

We had a fantastic week and in spite of mixed weather, the conditions were good for walking and cycling. The nights were cool and we really enjoyed the cosy warmth of the huge and effective log burner in the evenings. We will without doubt be returning to stay in this villa again.

Owner's Response: Spring is a fantastic time to visit the area. The fields are full of flowers, and everywhere is lush and green, perfect for walking. The bird life in the area always surprises me. I don't think I've ever heard so many cuckoos! Everyone enjoys the market in Mirepoix, just wandering around looking at all the various types of mushrooms, sausages and cheeses, very different to a market in the UK, followed by a light lunch under the mediaeval covered walkways! The Chateau de Camon is a real treat for a special meal though there are lots of restaurants of varying prices round the area, one nice one just a short walk down the road Le Moulin de L' Eveque. Glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again soon.

Perfectly equipped holiday home.

Lovely villa in a beautiful part of France.

The owner was incredibly helpful and provided us with lots of information so that we could explore the area fully. Lots to do locally for children of all ages.

The house itself was equipped with everything we might need. The grounds and pool were very well maintained and meant we had a wonderful base to return to after a day busy with exploring!

Would highly recommend.

New for this year was a proper coffee maker, great if you're into espresso's, and a large new kettle style BBQ which I used for the first time this week! Nice to know I was able to give you some useful information which hopefully helped you explore and find things you may have otherwise missed in your two weeks holiday. Just left Rivel today, blue skies and the pool still 28 degrees. Not bad for October 10th!

Lovely private house with pool

This is a lovely place to stay in a peaceful setting .We were a family of 5 with 3 adult children. The house is very well equipped with washing machine, dishwasher and everything else you might need and is located at the end of the village and not overlooked. Lac du Montbel is close by and we hired bikes for an afternoon to look around the locality. We also visited the market at Mirepoix and the coast at Perpignan, which is a 90 minute drive away. There is a restaurant a short walk away which provides good food at reasonable prices but you might need to book in advance. A car is essential but there is plenty to do and lots of places to visit nearby.The house is spacious and clean and the pool is larger than average and heated if required. There is a lovely covered area with a BBQ next to the pool and plenty of space in the garden. There is no wifi and the TV is not connected to a signal (plays DVDs) but this was not a problem for us as it was nice to get away from all the usual chaos of modern life, even the kids did not complain as there was plenty of other stuff to do and they could rediscover the art of entertaining themselves without the use of a screen. ! . The UK owner Sue was very helpful and accessible should there be any problems. (we didn't have any). If you are looking for a peaceful retreat in a lovely house with the use of a large private heated pool, this property will certainly fit the bill.

Owner's Response: So pleased you all enjoyed your stay and liked the house. I've tried my best to equip it with everything needed, a home rather than a holiday house.New for this year is the espresso/ coffee machine. I think the area is stunning, with beautiful scenery and we always find new things to see and do, even after several years. A car is necessary but driving is easy, very little traffic and good roads. We always enjoy the food in the many different restaurants in the area , but having a good one only 10 minutes walk away is a bonus. Thank you for you lovely review, hope to see you again soon.
