A three bedroom, split level cottage, sleeps six/seven people
Scairbhin is a cottage located in a very scenic part of County Kerry on a half acre of private garden. There are beaches and mountains nearby with views of both from the house. Scairbhin is located on the Wild Atlantic Way. The area of Ballinskelligs has been designated as a Dark Sky area, given a gold rating for the stunning night sky. Waterville golf course is just a short drive from the house. The house is bright and fully equipped and furnished to a high standard. There is a terrace off the sitting room offering panoramic views and a patio off the kitchen. The garden is large. The area around the house is quiet and is one of Ireland’s most scenic locations. It is an area suitable to all, with water sports, hill walking and safe beaches all nearby. Cahersiveen, Waterville and Portmagee are only a few minutes by car. Here you will find restaurants, pubs and shops. Valentia Island is close and offers stunning scenery and a unique experience.

Excellent house in a beutiful location!!
Stayed for two weeks as a family of six, the house was the ideal layout, and the location could not have been better. Would highly recommend the house and the location. We hope to return again in the future.
From the minute we arrived at Scairbin, we fell in love with the cottage and the area….the pictures on this website simply do not do it justice. We were absolutely delighted with the size, style and layout of the accommodation. It is split level, bedrooms and kitchen on lower level and the lounge on the first floor up wooden steps - the views from there are fabulous –hills and greenery…just beautiful. We were very blessed with the weather and so were able to enjoy the scenery at its best. You can also see the sea from the lounge which was a wonderful surprise.
There is an open fire which is very cosy at night and I loved sitting on the rocking-chair reading and looking at the views. There is also a flat-screen TV and a fast wifi connection (which wasn’t listed on the website)..although we couldn’t get the DVD to display the picture properly. The large glass windows in the roof let a lot of light in and are wonderful to see the stars if you are fortunate enough for a nice clear night. There is a little balcony from the lounge with chairs which is a sun-trap.
The cottage itself is well furnished, cosy and tastefully decorated – the main bedroom has a lovely wrought-iron bed and on-suite and the other two rooms are equally nice with pine furniture and fittings. The kitchen had everything we needed (although the microwave was a bit temperamental!) There is also a small snooker table and a fuse-ball table for the kids as well as many books and games. It was very quiet and peaceful and perfect for a romantic get-away or a family holiday.
The area itself is fabulous – just a few minutes drive away from a lovely beach and in easy reach of many others…we enjoyed driving round the Ring of Kerry, the Dingle Peninsula and we also had a fun boat trip to Skellig Michael (now famous for appearing in the new Star Wars film!) – we recommend to go with Gearoid Moran – book at the Moorings Hotel, Portmagee….we also recommend you take sea-sickness tablets…it is VERY choppy out there!!!
Waterville is only a 10 minute drive away and Cahersiveen is about 20 minutes and there you will find lots of nice shops, places to eat, a Supa-Value supermarket and the cheapest petrol we found in Ireland!
All in all we had a fabulous time staying at Scairbin – thank you Bernie and Albert for sharing your beautiful house with us, we really didn’t want to leave, it made our 22nd wedding anniversary very special and we hope one day to return!
The house is very spacious, clean, well equiped, with a huge garden and all the equipments required. And the great thing overall is the brightness, thanks to the big windows everywhere!
we spent a perfect week in this cottage, thanks to bernie and albert. I can only recommand this cottage to everyone!!
maison super, très bien équipée, au calme, avec une vue sur la mer. les chambres sont très spacieuses, et surtout, surtout... la luminosité est incroyable!! nous avons passé un séjour formidable, je ne peux que recommander ce cottage.
We had a perfect stay at Skairbhin
We spent a perfect time at this house. It's a really nice, cosy and very bright house with so much daylight coming in. The house was very clean and well equipped. The kitchen offered a huge variety of all the necessary facilites, inlcuding many interesting cooking books with Irish recipes. Our bedrooms and bathrooms were also very nice and clean. The children loved the game room and enjoyed playing pool and table football. The living room was perfect for relaxing with a nice view down the seaside. The books in the small library and the Dvds were ´perfect for rainy hours.
The house is located near the beach, within less than 15 minutes you can walk down the beach, which is splendid and amazing. We enjoyed long walks along the beach, the coastline and through the marhses. For bigger shopping you can go to Cahersiveen, which is at about 14 km. The surroundings of Ballingskellig offer a huge variety of interesting day trips including nice coastal walks, old villages, cosy pubs and cafes and amazing landscapes.
All of us really enjoyed our holidays, and we'll recommend this place to our friends. It was fantastic in Ireland. Thank you very much!!
P.S.: Just one thing to mention which one could improve in the house. Could you please explain better the recycle system of the rubbish. It wasn' t clear which rubbish goes into which bin. What exactly is dry plastic rubbish? We in Germany tend to recycle almost everything and we are used to a complicated system of separating all types of rubbish. Therefore it wasn't clear for us why cardboard paper goes into the same bin with plastic. Maybe you could try to label this more exactly in order to avoid extra work for your cleaning staff and confusion with the guests.
House very pleasant coach bright, spacious, and possesses all the necessity to feel good there.
The house is tastefully settled.
Nice also the billiards(billiard table), we liked(loved) well with our son to be able to play it.
Thanks to Bernie and to Albert for their kindness and their availability.
