Charmingly refurbished ancient millers house in award winning mountain village

El Molinero which means the 'miller's house' is an ideal holiday home all year around in the small and picturesque village of Fornalutx on the North West Coast of Mallorca. Parts of the house are a couple of hundred years old. An extension was added by the previous owner, a famous Scottish Architect and in 2000 the current owner did a major refurbishment adding both pratical and luxurious features. Now the house has 3 bedrooms 3 bathrooms (two en-suite) with all modern facilities, charm, a large roof terrace (like a summer dining/living room) with a Barbecue and divine views over the roof tops of the village, the mountain range Tramuntana and the Soller 'orange' valley. There is a small balcony with views over a garden with orange trees and the mountain range. Further a modern and very practical kitchen with all possible kitchen facilities, a dining room with a table that seats 8 people and a living room with comfortable sofa's and easy chairs in front of the fireplace.

Beautiful village house in Fornalutx: 'El Molinero' is the house where the Miller of the village lived and our other house next door is the actual mill 5603 which has been refurbished and reformed to a 2 bedroom house with a small garden.The house is in the middle of the village but on a quiet street with no cars. You can however drive down to the house to leave luggage or heavy shopping but it is a narrow one way street so you cannot park for long. The whole area is very charming with the village 'washing' place (where women still today does their laundry in the cold water coming from the mountain stream), the beautiful Town Hall and the small streets and stairs leading up and down to the various houses scattered over the terraced land. It is a minute away from the Plaza (the village square) with its bars, cafes, restaurants, banks and a few shops. This is where everybody meets from early morning coffee to late night drinks and entertainment.If you are a bigger family or a group of friends it is suitable to rent both.

Excellent location and stay

Location is fantastic. Right in the midst of Fornalutx. Joining the locals in the town square was great fun. Property itself is unique in layout, which only added to the fun. Two teenagers and three adults. Just right for us. No pool on property, and during our time of year would not want (not warm enough), but had we wanted a pool we would have gone down to the tennis and paddle club close nearby.

We - two adults, two teenagers - stayed in this gorgeous place for a week in July 2014 and loved every minute! Can only agree with previous reviews - this place is outstanding. And even better than the photos. We we so comfortable here - a rare combination of a classy hotel feel combined with a down-to-earth and please feel at home atmosphere. Tastefully decorated, true to original atmosphere and location. VERY spacious. I wanted to take the kitchen home with me - nothing missing here. Several times I pictured myself cooking for guests whilst enjoying a glass of cava over the counter and then dining on the terrace with the most spectacular view. All in all - top knotch and hope to be back.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at 'El Molinero' for a week and cannot recommend it highly enough. The property was simply beautiful, as is the village. It contained absolutely everything you could possibly need – from pots and pans to sun loungers. The property was immaculately clean and Susie (the property contact in the village) was just delightful. As was Marie, the owner. I was actually concerned about the location - having never been to Fornalutx – but it was brilliantly placed just ten minutes from both Soller Town and the Port (and it was far more relaxing than either location). We had such a wonderful break and hope to return to 'El Molinero' very soon indeed! Rebecca, St Albans

Fornalutx is a picturesque mountain village in the Tramuntana mountain. This part of the West Coast of Mallorca has beautiful villages like, Valldemossa, Deya, Soller, Biniaraix and Fornalutx. There are interesting walks in the area as well as water sports in the Port of Soller. Port of Soller has lovely beaches and a large natural harbour. You can take excurions by boat or bus or car to Sa Calobra and the Monastry Lluc or drive the scenic route to Pollensa and Formentor. It is only some 25 minutes drive to Palma. Soller has Botanical gardens on both sides of the tunnel. Soller has both shops and a weekly Market. There are Fun Parks and Shopping Centres some 25 minutes drive from Soller.

  • There is air conditioning all through the house as well as central heating. The house has a large furnished entrance on the ground floor. On the first floor there is 1 double bedroom with en-suite bathroom as well as another bathroom and the hallway and stairs leading up on one side to the 1/2 floor up with more bedrooms and on the other side there is the stairs to the second floor. On the 1/2 floor up there is a single room and the Master bedroom with en-suite bathroom and also the door leading up to the balcony with kitchen herbs as well as stairs leading up to the 3rd floor.On the second floor there is a dining room, a kitchen as well as the store and laundry room also leading out to the balcony. The balcony has a table and 2 chairs and some herbs and gorgeous views to the highest mountain peak, Puig Major. On the third floor there is the living room with fireplace and the lovely roof terrace with a large dining table, BBQ, as well as a sitting area for taking the sun or shade.
