About the Owner

We live in the 'flat Fens' near Cambridge, our house is 12 feet above sea level so a home in the mountains is a complete contrast.

I began skiing as an adult and having caught the ski 'bug' I have skiied nearly every year since.

American Family of 5 Ski Fun

  • 5 of 5

We discovered the resort and apartment on the internet. We are American expats living in Europe with 3 children between ages of 7-11 who never skied before. The slopes were great and provided a blend of easy, intermediate and difficult. The lifts were ideal for small children.

The rental property was excellent, new, clean and very convenient to access the slopes. We walked each day from the apartment directly to the lift. We would certainly go back and highly recommend it for a great family vacation.

The town of Rauris was picture perfect in the winter setting, The people were very friendly. The indoor heated swimming pool was clean with an awesome view of the mountains. The kids enjoyed the ability to swim directly from the inside pool to the outside for a refreshing experience.

Overall, we were very pleased with our experience.

Owner's Response: I greatly value your feedback and am delighted that you enjoyed your stay in our beautiful apartment. The swimming pool is a great place to relax after a day on the slopes and I'm glad to see that you were able to take advantage of these facilities. Rauris is a lovely family ski resort and is also great for active summer holidays too. I look foward to seeing you again in the near future. Alison

Wonderful break in an idylliic village

  • 5 of 5

We travelled with our 2 children (8 & 6 year olds) in early Feb 14 for a family skiing holiday. It was our daugher's first skiiing trip and it could not have been a better place. The village is extremely pleasant with lots of bars and restaurants that have a great selection of food. There are 2 supermarkets that stock everything you would ever need for staying in on the occasional night. The apartment was furnished to a high standard and had plenty of room for the 4 of us. All amenities were provided and the resort staff could not do enough to help us, even opening up 45 mins early on our departure date so we could check out.

The Karl Maier ski school had an abundance to super efficient and attentive instructors that made sure that our children progressed well during our stay. The medals presentation at the end of the week was a nice touch, which made sure that all students felt special.

The walk to the gondola station is only about 5-10 mins even carrying an extra set of skis, then it's straight up the mountain and plenty of runs for all standards.

I would definitely return to rauris and in particular this development of luxury apartments.

I'm very glad we found this on HomeAway.

Owner's Response: Thank you Mark for your feedback, we are so glad you had a lovely holiday staying at Christina One. The ski/snow boarding schools are excellent for beginners and those who want to develop their skills and it is good to know that your daughter enjoyed her first ski trip. We hope you took advantage of the lovely pool whilst you were there, a great way to ease those muscles after a hard day on the slopes. We offer returning guests a 5% discount and we look forward to you returning to Rauris again very soon. Ali and David

Well equipped and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

Rauris proved to be an excellent location for our summer walking trip with plenty of well marked trails from the village and at higher altitudes via the gondolbahn .Both Zell am See and Salzburg are close by if you tire of the delights of the Rauris Valley. The resort is well situated on the edge of the village and has everything you need for a basically self catering holiday although there are several restaurants in the village and just beyond. The apartment itself is spacious(for two of us) has a well equipped kitchen, wifi and cable/satellite TV and a comfortable bed.Everything was clean and in excellent condition,With daily temperatures ranging between 25c and 6c it was good to have sitting out space on the terrace on warm days whilst the very effective under floor heating was invaluable when the temperatures plummeted. The resort has a decent pool and spa facilities and friendly helpful staff. The managing agent ( Gaby) was also extremely helpful readily lending us a hair dryer-the one thing that was not apparantly available in the apartment. All in all an excellent apartment and one we would certainly recommend.

Beautiful apartment, idyllic location

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a wonderful week with our 11-yr old son in Christina One, Rauris. The booking process was extremely professional and the owner most helpful with pre-booking queries. We received very comprehensive information prior to travelling but even this did not prepare us for how perfect the apartment would be. It is modern, beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and has every conceivable extra, including some we were not expecting (e.g. WiFi, English-speaking TV which significantly enhanced our Olympics viewing!). The Schonblick Mountain Resort is accurately described on the website. It has a great location within a 5 min walk of the village, supermarket, etc. There is so much to do in the area that the problem is narrowing it down. We really enjoyed the Liechtensteinklamm, the Castle at Werfen, the cable car (and hike down) in Rauris and a day trip to Salzburg ( we used the park and ride at Messe, follow signs). A must in Salzburg is a visit to the terrace restaurant at the Museum der Moderne which has spectacular views of the city. We would recommend Christina One to anyone looking for a modern apartment in a beautiful location. We have been renting through holiday rentals/homeaway for many years and this has probably been the nicest property we've stayed in, ticking all the boxes for us.

Owner's Response: Dear Claire, Thank you so much for your feedback, it is good to know that our personal approach to letting out Christina One is valued by our guests and that our apartment ranks so highly against others you have stayed in. When you visit again, which we very much hope you will do (we offer a 5% discount on the published price for returning guests) why not visit the Grossglockner, the highest mountain in Austria for some spectacular hair pin bends and amazing views or take the Post Bus along the Rauris Valley to Kolm Saigurn where there are many beautiful walks and you may spot some bearded vultures? Best wishes Ali and David

Exellent Place to stay

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I found the apartment (Christina) to be modern, well equipped and very spacious. The bathroom was excellent with both shower, bath and two wash basins. The site facilities were good with a bar, pool, jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room, although I was a little unhappy that the pool was not open until 12 pm, as I would have liked to use it in the morning before going out. For us as a middle-aged couple the apartment was all we could wish for, but it would not be suitable for two couples sharing as the second bedroom had two bunks and a single bed and little storage space, although it would be fine for a family with children under 12. The surrounding area was beautiful and the village of Rauris was small and quite, which was fine for us but probably not so good if you like more evening entertainment. One thing that is worth mentioning is that you do need to have a welcome pack if you are arriving late on the Saturday day as it was too late for meals and there was no shops open the next day and no restaurants in early morning as it was Sunday. Fortunately the nearby gasthof was able to provide an impromptu snack meal at 10 pm on Saturday and we got a late breakfast at the top of mountain reached by cable car. Overall I would strongly recommend this apartment and the beautiful countryside.

Owner's Response: Thank you, we value your feedback and are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Christina One, Rauris. As we have a young family the apartment was set up to cater for our needs. Following your feedback we have added some additional under bed storage to the second bedroom. For late and Saturday/Sunday arrivals, we always offer our guests a welcome pack as this part of Austria strictly observes Sunday as a day of rest. The resort restaurant also offers a breakfast service, details from Reception.

Location

From the Owner

We had done a lot of skiing with our ski club in Austria over the years and knew the Alpendorf area really well. We had often dreamt of buying our own ski apartment and one day in 2007 saw a newspaper advertisement for the Schonblick Mountain Resort in Rauris. The Rauris valley is not far from Alpendorf so we thought it was worth a look. We went out for a weekend and stood in the field where the apartments were going to be built and fell in love with the place. The views down the valley were amazing and when we went up the mountain to see the ski area we knew that this was a perfect place for us to put down some ski roots. A year and a half later we had the keys and began to let Christina One out.

Winter

The village of Rauris sits at an altitude of 950m and from here a series of gondolas takes you up to the summit at 2175m.

The English speaking ski schools in Rauris are some of the best in Europe and with plenty of wide, well groomed and uncrowded pistes, the resort is perfect for families, beginners and intermediates.

The slopes face north-east, ensuring the snow stays in great condition, but snow cannons cover all the runs into the resort for added security.

Cross-country skiers and hikers are equally well catered for, with 45km of groomed, cross-country piste and 48km of cleared winter hiking trails.

For those wanting to venture further afield, some of the largest ski areas in Austria are within a 20-40 minute drive, including the resorts of Bad Gastein, Zell am See, Kaprun and Ski Amade.

Spring, Summer and Autumn

Rauris offers plenty to do when the snow melts. 295km of hiking paths cut across the mountains and through the Rauriser Urwald, a primal forest dotted with 80 secluded lakes. National Park guided activities are available and can be booked at the Tourist Information office.

The Hochalmbahnen Gondola will whisk you to the Hochalm to view the birds of prey or for some gold panning after which you can walk down or catch the gondola for the return journey.

Cycle trails give access to the Pinzgau Mountain Biking Network, cycle hire is available locally.

Why not try your hand at gold panning at Kolm Saigurn or join an exciting rafting tour in Taxenbach?

Catch your own trout for lunch at the Weixen in the Seidlwinkltal.

The Schonblick Mountain Resort provides easy access to the surrounding countryside and hiking routes and is an ideal base for year round vacations.

Other Activities: Rafting; snow shoeing; toboganning; tennis.

Salzburg is just an hour away by car with its many historic attractions.

Facilities

From the Owner

We have personally equipped Christina One to a high standard, refreshing and updating the furnishings and equipment during our regular visits. When we are not there our local team keep the apartment in peak condition. We have found that the Rauris valley is perfect for year round holidays. We visit in every season and always find something different to do whether it be cycling a new route or visiting a new attraction. In ski boots, Christina One is a convenient 5 minute walk to the slopes and ski hire shops. The nearest supermarket is just 2 minutes away and if we are feeling lazy, we can order breakfast rolls to be delivered to our door each morning. The local restaurants are excellent and the people very welcoming. Schonblick Mountain Resort has it's own bar and restaurant, the Steinbock, which can be reached using the underground passageways - ideal when it is snowing heavily and you fancy a drink or something to eat. The swimming pool, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi can be reached the same way - no need to go out in the cold. We have an underground parking space which keeps our car snow and ice free making it easy to set off in the mornings to explore other ski resorts.
