Born in the Baby Boomer decade (post 2nd World War) both hosts are originally from Johannesburg where they completed their schooling.

A shipboard romance on the Cape Town Castle when sailing from Cape Town to England in 1967 led to the couple marrying in 1969 and settling down first in Durban until 1972 and from where they then spent 5 years in Zimbabwe, living in both Bulawayo and Harare.

Since the closure of Barrys clothing factory in October 2005, Barry has been marketing and managing ASCOT GARDENS.

At ASCOT GARDENS, Barry is responsible for marketing, reservations, payments and maintenance;and for ensuring that the money trees continually bear fruit which then enables Lesley to present our guests with immaculate and stunning gardens throughout the year, and accommodation considered the best value for money self catering accommodation in the Constantia Valley

We live on the property in our own private corner house and from there manage the 1 acre property consisting of the 12 different sized ASCOT GARDENS SELF CATERING garden suites .

Ascot Gardens often has open days to show off our lovely gardens , and the money raised is donated to worthy charities .

Great location! Great value!

We had a large group stay in ASCOT LODGE consisting of adjoining King, Queen & Jack self catering units and it was a wonderful experience. Barry was flexible in accommodating the group size with beds. The large area in King made nightly dinner easy to prepare, serve and eat together. The smaller lounges in the other cottages made it nice for people to have their own space since the weather was a bit chilly. We hired a private driver which made accessing the city a breeze. We have also in the past used public transit from Heathfield Train Station which is a nice trip to the beaches (Surfers' Corner all the way to the access point to Boulder's Beach). It's a little longer to get to the City Center and Waterfront, but a taxi is not too expensive. The nearby Constantia Valley is gorgeous! Even if you don't like wine the estates are beautiful. There were other groups on the property which we hardly heard because of our location. The ease of the private entry made it simple for us to leave early and arrive late without disturbing others. I would highly recommend staying at Ascot Gardens (just don't take my booking!).

A little gem of a place to stay! Really like a home away from home! Great hosts in Barry & Leslie! With no complaints! This is a must as a single traveler or family. My family and I will be using them again in the future.

"Great "

A great place to stay with all the comforts of home and conveniently situated to visit all the sights and wine route . It even has a little library with a nice selection and internet with free wifi . We'll certainly come stay here again .

Excellent self catering apartments

We stayed one week in this well equipped apartment. Room had full kitchen and separate livingroom and bedroom. There was also nice terrace and beautiful garden, were we had our self made breakfast and sometimes dinner. There are restaurants and shops at a walking distance.

We even had our own garage for the car with remote control !

The owner Barry is extremely helpful and gave good advice for our traveling. There is also information library full of traveling information !

Beautiful Property with Great Location

We came to Ascot Gardens with a group, but I was lucky to stay in the Mountain View Suite with a friend. We were very happy with the view and the balcony that overlooked the gardens on ground. We arrived to a clean, and spacious room with plenty of amenities. The bathroom was very clean and the laundry unit available was a big plus! The surrounding area was quite and very well put together. We enjoyed the short walk to the neighborhood park and it's proximity to the major grocery store. Barry and Lesley were very friendly and we really appreciated their hospitality.

Great place to stay just outside of Cape Town

We were looking for a place south of Cape Town for our base for touring around the Peninsula for a beginning of our African experience and we picked the Ascot Gardens. We stayed 2 nights and we loved it. It's 2 min from shopping centre, 20 minutes driving for city centre (30 min rush hours), Muizenberg Beach, Constantia and have a good road connection towards other spots like Chapman's Peak Drive, Simon's Town, Cape Point.

The place itself save, quite and you can park the car behind the gate. There few restaurants nearby too. Apartments are clean and well equipped; nice bathroom, full kitchen (so you can save few quid by buying a roasted chicken or ready made meals in a shop), overall great value for money.

In the previous reviews I came across some negative comments regardless additional payment required for central heating -for us despite it was early spring with max temp in late teens and chilly morning and nights but we were not cold without central heating. We used hot water bottles to warm up bed before go to sleep and we were fine till morning.

Barry is very helpful.

We should come a day or 2 earlier and stay longer there longer.

Owner's Response: Visitors to Cape Town requiring an affordable good central accommodation base for experiencing all that Cape Town and its surrounding areas offers, will be hard pressed to find better accommodation than ASCOT GARDENS SELF CATERING in the Constantia Valley . The tourist brochures provided in the library , free wifi and fixed internet ,knowledgeable and helpful hosts, dining out cheaply in local restaurants ,and neighborhood shopping with the locals , ensures that ASCOT GARDENS SELF CATERING is the place to stay when visiting Cape Town. .

Barry’s work in the Clothing Industry led to a move from Zimbabwe to Cape Town in 1977 and the purchase of the original ASCOT HOUSE , 6 EKSTEEN AVENUE, BERGVLIET in 1979. In 1996, when their 3 children Grant , Scott and Angie finally left home , Ascot House was subdivided into 3 separate private self catering suites and the ASCOT GARDENS self catering venture was born. In 2001 , a property at the back of Ascot House was purchased and rebuilt and opened for guests in December 2001 as ASCOT LODGE , 17 JEFFCOAT AVENUE , also offering 3 private self catering suites. NOVEMBER 2004 marked the opening of another adjoining property ASCOT VILLA , 30 HIDDINGH ROAD , a luxury entire private House/Villa that sleeps 8-14 or can also be booked as 3 separate private self catering suites for different families . ASCOT MEWS, 28 HIDDINGH ROAD, was opened to guests in July 2005. Conversion of single house to 3 private self catering suites was completed and offers guests s/c accommodation for up to 10 guests. All of our units have been refurbished in both 2015 and 2016 and furnishings are continuously being updated .The gardens and property are very well maintained by MICHAEL a full time gardener for past 20 years and maintenance man ALBERT Our annual South African Tourism 3 Star Grading inspection ensures that our accommodation is of an international standard . Last successful inspection for the confirmation of our 3 STAR SELF CATERING ACCOMMODATION AWARD was in SEPTEMBER 2016

Barry is a keen golfer , and also a partner with son Scott , in Ascot Tours , a company specializing in Golf Tours , hotel accommodation , safaris , car hire and travel throughout Southern Africa. Barry enjoys drinking good red wine , and his occasional over indulgence has often spoiled a good Thai or fish barbeque meal that he has prepared for his invited friends or ASCOT GARDENS guests. Lesley , Michael the gardener , Mary and Sheila the cleaning maids , Albert the maintenance man , all ensure that ASCOT GARDENS is always looking good , clean and colorful for our many international guests that often return and stay with us for 3 weeks to 3 month each year during our summer months of November to end March . Barry loves to pass on local information of where to eat , shop and visit local attractions. He can recommend some good value deals offered by local restaurants , and provide a daily weather prediction NB. Most times incorrectly ! ) .

On site laundry and washing lines, Ironing board and iron is provided in each suite. Hair dryers, Adapters and plugs available from office for R100 refundable deposit . The units are not serviced daily but bath towels , dish cloths , toilet rolls , dish washing liquid and garbage bags are checked and replaced whenever necessary. We will enter you suite daily ( during the week when you are out ) and remove your garbage and replace black bag if dirty . For longer stays, a complete service, clean and bed linen and towel replacement is done, after every 7 days,. The Meadowridge Shopping center , and 6 good local restaurants are 10 minutes walk away
