North Cyprus is the Med's best kept secret: Loved for its slow pace of life, and welcoming hospitality. Kyrenia and Famagusta combine beautiful bays and enchanting sights with a sunny Cyprus climate all year round, making it an ideal holiday destination.

Northern Cyprus is located at the crossroads of three continents, and just 40 miles from Turkey. Previously a British colony, the island's European influence means that, although Turkish is the official language in North Cyprus, English is still widely spoken and everybody drives on the left.

Super villa in Ozankoy near Kyrenia.

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned froma weeks holiday in Villa Mumbet and have had a really lovely time. The villa is seriously comfortable with everything you need to have a great holiday. The beds were comfortable and the rooms cool, the bathrooms were modern and super clean and the kitchen had everything you need and more. Our stay in August was particularly hot so we were very happy to cool off on the pool and spend some time in the lovely garden, pool area. The villa is really central and we all enjoyed diving in the clear waters of this area while spending each evening trying out the different restaurants of the town all of which we enjoyed. The owners of this villa have provided a really excellent holiday home and I would recommend it to anyone and will hopefully get a chance to go back myself.

Overall: this was a wonderful holiday

  • 4 of 5

Overall: this was a wonderful holiday with so many massive plus points. One negative (dogs barking).

The Owner: Cathy was a wonderful host, so helpful, so pleasant.

The Villa: Just fantastic. A large garden meant that it was nice and secluded without neighbours on top of you. Built in barbecue and fixed shading as well as good condition sunbeds and umbrellas in the really nice garden. The Villa was lovely with 3 good size bedrooms (although the main bed was only a double), very spacious with a lovely kitchen diner and spacious living room. It is so spacious it could cope with 3 couples or any other combination of 6 people easily and you would still rattle around. Everything in really good condition, it felt like you had borrowed someone’s home. The swimming pool was a nice size, 8m but half the length was very shallow so ideal for small kids but not so good for adults.

The local area: Noisy from dogs, especially at dusk. This stems from the Cypriots’ attitude to dogs so was a widespread issue rather than something very localised. We ignored them but it did mean having windows closed at night. No local shops. Nearest supermarket (which was excellent even had British papers) was 10 mins walk away. We only hired a car for a few days. So Cathy acted as taxi service for initial stock up, after that it was an easy walk to top up. The main town’s harbour was 25 mins away which if you don’t mind walking is nothing really although people may like to taxi back. We ate in town 6 nights out of 10 and walked every time. The nearest restaurants were also 10 minutes away but we did not have the opportunity to try them. Asfar as music and entertaining goes, it was generally quiet (so lacked the football shirt wearing tribes.

Girne (formally Keryneia): Lovely harbour town full of restaurants at the quayside. Those a little further away are cheaper but don’t have the ambience. The castle and museum are a must so reserve a half day. The town catered really well for tourists without being dominated like a lot of places in Greece and Turkey.

North Cyprus: Still has British legacies such as driving on the left & British sockets. Most people spoke English so having limited (or no)Turkish is not a problem. In general North Cyrus is quiet, unspoilt with some great historic sights, unspoilt beaches and is hot. We went in early September and the temperatures were in the mid 30s. Nearly all non Cypriots were Brits.

Perfect Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a very relaxing week with friends at Villa Mumbet. Cathy and Reg are the pefect hosts, so warm and friendly from the initial contact to the final farewell, nothing is too much trouble. The villa is quite frankly the best equipped that we have ever stayed in in North Cyprus and there are so many thoughtful touches - candles, music, a water cooler, to name but three. Aircon, comfortable beds, beautiful linen and the added benefit of towels for the pool means lots more room in the suitcase for taking home souvenirs! The pool and grounds are kept spotlessly clean and being in walking distance of shops, great little local restaurants and the dolmus stop into Kyrenia all mean that a car is not necessary. Thank you for making our holiday so relaxing and we will be back!

everything is true

  • 5 of 5

everything was as it said. the taxi was waiting at Ercan as had been organised by Cathy. the villa was extremely clean all the cups etc freshly cleaned. the bedding very fresh and clean. the welcome pack was very welcome everything we needed to start us off. Cathy and Reg were most welcoming nothing was too much trouble. I was taken to the supermarket by Cathy on our first morning. Reg also called on the Saturday to see if we required a lift anywhere. the info provided was first class. one of the best things was the water cooler and a spare bottle of water. as the weather was very hot it was a life saver. I can recommend this villa and will certainly return if circumstances allow. Cathy and REG go the extra mile. so you can book a holiday at this villa with confidence

Superb- relaxing and so enjoyable

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful two-weeks' break at the villa. We have visited North Cyprus many times and this was as good as it gets. Reg and Cathy were so helpful and hospitable. Nothing was too much trouble for them. There was ample provision in the villa through food, utensils and toiletries. The layout of the villa is perfect. Apart from two rather inclement days, we were blessed with the weather and able to sit around the pool, as well as on the balcony early evening. A menagerie of cats kept us highly entertained (despite not being feline lovers!). The villa was meticulously clean and well-maintained

We would recommend a visit to the local 'bar' (about 200m away) on Wednesday evenings to socialise with expats and find out more about the locality.

We will have no hesitation in re-booking for the villa and intend to do so in the very near future. Thank you to Reg and Cathy -even though we didn't discover the remote control for the dvd -but that added to the fun!

Location

From the Owner

Location. Your Home from Home is so near to Kyrenia, for those who do not want to hire a car and can use local Dolmus and taxi's. It is also very near to Ozankoy Villa and beautiful Bellapais with the historic Abbey. Villa Mumbet is not just a holiday home it is home form home with your every requirement. We are living here and can be on hand any time you need us.

Activity and Interests

Dogankoy is a typical Cypriot Village, very near to Girne Town Centre and Ozankoy Village and a very short drive to Bellapais. The old & new harbours are within walking distance on a fine day as is the town centre for shopping! There are restaurants also within walking distance for the villa. Dolmus (local taxis) can be picked up from the nearby road (not so near that you can hear it) to take you all over the island.

Other Activities: There is now a new Bowling Alley and entertainment centre within a 10 minute drive from Villa Mumbet.

Ice Skating in Catalkoy!

Golf: The new Esentepe Golf course is now open, all details can be found on their web sites including details of the beautiful restaurant and their entertainment calendar. www.korineumgolf.com Situated on the Coast at the foot of The Five Finger Mountain in Esentepe, the prestigious Korineum Golf & Country Club is proud to be the first 18 holes golf course in Northern Cyprus. Carved from a natural forest of Umbrella Pines and Olive trees, amongst others, with stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea on one side, and breath taking views of the famous Five Finger Mountain range on the other, this makes for a truly memorable experience you will never forget.

North Cyprus Music

Orchestral concerts are regularly held at the venues listed below. If you are lucky enough to catch a concert at the Bellapais Abbey, it is sure to be an unforgettable occasion. Kyrenia: Bellapais Abbey, Bellapais Kyrenia Castle.

Far West, is the most fertile region with citrus groves & olive trees in abundance. To the East, the finger of the Karpaz Peninsula points to Syria. This region is more remote yet home to the most beautiful landscapes in North Cyprus, with deserted beaches and ancient villages with once-grand basilicas, tombs & ruins which bear testament to the areas glorious past. The eastern coastal area is home to one of the most historic towns, Famagusta. It is definitely worth exploring the city centre which has two distinctive zones illustrating both traditional and modern Famagusta
