About the Owner

Originally from Buckinghamshire, I live in London with my partner Kate. I work for a company that publishes academic journals for science, technology and medicine (and the Dummies series of books!). Kate works for the NHS.

I actually do something called 'User Experience', which means building websites that are useful and usable. This involves lots of listening to people to find out what they really want and then making sure that the website contains all the right features and that it is easy to use.

This is why I love renting out the apartment so much. It's all about talking to people and making sure that the apartment will give them what they are looking for - a pleasant and relaxing place to stay.

There's more to it than that though. The interesting thing about building websites is that they don't sit in a bubble. When you use websites, you have lots of things going on around you. And, what you do on the site often has an impact later on (like you now - looking for a place to go on holiday!). So when I build websites, I don't just think about the site, I also think how it is going to help the person in their day to day life. That's the same with renting a holiday home.

Going on holiday is a journey, you look for somewhere to go, you make a decision, you pack, you fly there, you have a wonderful holiday and then you return and tell your friends family and colleagues at work about it. I want to make sure that the bit where you stay in a wonderful apartment is brilliant because I really know how important it is in your life.

You can Google me easily to find out more about what I do - Ivor Tillier.

Great place and apartment

  • 5 of 5

Tavira is a lovely relaxing place to stay. Great beach, bars and cafes to chill out in, restaurants to suit all (especially if you like fish!). Good place for seeing other areas too. We even went to Saville for the day! The apartment is clean and very well equipped. Comfy beds, a choice of balcony to sit out on. Fantastic market 5 minutes walk for great local food to cook if you don't want to eat out every day. Wine shop 5 minutes walk from the apartment with great Portuguese wines! What more could we have wanted!! Second stay here and will definitely be back.

Spacious, well-equipped, handily located.

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed a sunny and hot September week in Tavira based in Ivor's apartment. Ivor's listing is very accurate - the apartment is excellently located, a short, flat (cobbled!) walk to all the main parts of Tavira. The apartment is spacious and comprehensively equipped. The beds are very comfortable with good quality bed linen - the bath and hand towels are similarly of good quality. There is air conditioning throughout.

There were three people in our party. Note that there is just the one bathroom, so there might be a bit of a queue for the facilities if 5 or 6 people stay at the same time.

We enjoyed breakfast and early evening drinks on the balcony/terrace. We ate out for lunch and dinner but the kitchen is very well equipped for cooking.

Ivor provides excellent customer service with comprehensive information and speedy, friendly responses to any questions. The locally-based lady that oversees the property speaks excellent English.

I have no hesitation in recommending the property for those looking for a base in this terrific town.

fantastic tavira apartment

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic fully equipped 3 bed apartment in the heart of the beautiful town of Tavira. Games room great for kids, small pool on complex, underground parking also available but car is not necessary unless you plan to travel to the surrounding areas. Small supermarket very close by, as is ferry to beach. Fantastic stay, everything you could possible need, thank you. Hope to return.

Perfectly-located and immaculately presented

  • 5 of 5

Excellent apartment with facilities for everyone of all ages to enjoy! Very spacious, located very conveniently to the city centre but still very peaceful. Well-equipped kitchen and UK TV access and wifi great for all! Very comfortable beds with air conditioning in all the main rooms to ensure maximum comfort. All this led to a very enjoyable and comfortable place to stay for our family of two teenage boys and 11 year old daughter and us and from which to explore the beautiful city, beaches and local area.

The apartment is at the end of a level so eating out and playing games on the balcony in the evenings was very pleasant with no one passing through! Just a few minutes' walk to the beautiful and historic city centre and to the riverside to get the ferry to the beautiful beaches. The railway station is also easily walkable for journeys further afield - we enjoyed a day out to Faro and which we would recommend. Ivor could not have been more helpful in recommending an excellent local taxi service (who were very amenable in collecting us from the airport at 11.30pm on the Saturday evening!), advising us on the wifi / TV gadgetery and on local facilities.

Thank you for a fantastic holiday!

Great Apartment and Great Location

  • 5 of 5

We had an excellent stay in this apartment in the centre of Tavira. It was extremely comfortable, well-equipped and spacious and was within a two minute walk of everything we needed including a mini-market and a fabulous restaurant called Pausa. It was perfect for us as a family. It was really useful to be able to park our hire car in the underground car park and the whole complex felt safe and well-cared for. The apartment was very clean and the beds were extremely comfortable which makes such a difference! Ivor the owner was incredibly helpful and went above and beyond to provide us with information and help. We would definitely recommend this apartment to friends and would book again without question if we return to Tavira which I hope we will very soon. Delightful. The Hill Family

Another great stay

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay in 18 months in Ivor's apartment. There is everything you could want from trouble-free Wi-Fi to a large games room on the second floor. The great benefit is the space, with a large lounge with plenty of seating capacity, large dining table and a fully equipped kitchen. We have stayed in a lot of self catering apartments and this is one of the best anywhere. A small convenience store is two minutes walk for essentials with the larger Continente complex a short drive away which has a large Waitrose-quality supermarket, designer shops and food court. The river is very close by for evening strolls and, even in February, the better local restaurants were open with the freshest fish. Allocated underground parking right next to the lift is a great bonus. We hope to return again.

Owner's Response: Hi Keith, It was great to have you back again and wonderful to hear about all the birds - bluethroat and black-shouldered kites, excellent! I'll be on the look-out next time we're out. Thank you very much Ivor

From the Owner

Kate and I have been going on holiday to Tavira for over 20 years. We always used to stay in an apartment near the castle owned by a lovely lady but unfortunately a few years ago she decided to stop renting so we had no choice but to find something for ourselves. The thing with the castle is that it is a bit of a hike up the hill. Horta Poco do Bispo has such a great central location and so close to the market. Also, we bought it when it was being built had so had a really good insight into the quality of the project.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Faro at 35 Kilometres Nearest Ferry : Ferry to beach at 300 Metres Nearest Golf : Benamor at 2 Kilometres Nearest Train : Tavira at 1 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : A22 (Algarve and Spain) at 6 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Ilha da Tavira (Tavira Island) at 1000 Metres Car: not necessary

Tavira 'The jewel of the Algarve' is on your doorstop. Whether you want to wander romantic cobbled streets looking at the 37 churches or soak up the sun on huge expanses of sandy beaches - Tavira is a wonderful place for a holiday.

Restaurants range from smart and sophisticated to local and casual. If you’d rather eat in, Tavira boasts a huge indoor market (fresh fruit and veg., meat and fish) three minutes walk away. Otherwise, just sit back and watch the world go by in a one of the pavement cafes.

The glorious long sandy beaches stretch for miles. The nearest called 'The island' is reached by a short boat ride (leaves from the town centre in Summer, 20 minutes walk at other times). There are no roads or hotels but there are still some great cafes and restaurants selling the freshest fish you could eat!

Tavira makes a great centre for golf holidays. There are several in the area.

Nearby Faro is a great town to explore (catch the train) and go shopping.

Golf: There are some very good golf courses in the area such as Benamor. In te evening, you can walk out of the apartment and enjoy the restaurants of Tavira.

From the Owner

We have really tried to add all of those little touches. Things like a good internet connection, a library of books, a selection of games and DVDs and a good kitchen knife for chefs. Always on hand, we have a lovely local family that look after the apartment for us (and clean it fastidiously!). And, finally, the location, it's central but quiet and it's only three minutes walk to both the huge indoor market and the boat to the beach (the town is on your doorstep).
