Ski in ski out, unrivalled views, rare & charming

Overview

Property

Updated: 05-Dec-2016
Home from home, with all the comforts you want for the perfect holiday break

This charming chalet is situated at an altitude of 1275m, high above the Chamonix valley and overlooking the village of Les Houches.

The chalet enjoys some of the best views in the valley; and there is not only a large sunny balcony from which to enjoy them, but enormous floor to ceiling windows with sun light streaming through.

Chalet Schuss sleeps ten in four en suite bedrooms and one twin bedroom. The chalet has an open plan sitting and dining area providing ample space for relaxing in front of a roaring log fire and a separate TV and games room.

The chalet is also approached through its own woodland and has a huge private garden and an outdoor hot tub, making it the idyllic holiday getaway.

Chamonix Mont Blanc:

Chamonix sits at the foot of the majestic Mont Blanc in the French Alps and is widely regarded as the climbing, and more recently skiing, capital of the world. The town has long been known as a veritable playground for extreme sports in both summer and winter - it was home to the first Winter Olympics in 1924 - but it is also an area of outstanding natural beauty offering much to the adventurous skier and sightseer alike.

The Town

Unlike many modern ski resorts Chamonix is not a purpose built ski resort and has largely been saved from the concrete monstrosities which blight so much of the Alps. It is blessed with not only an internationally renowned ski area but also with an elegant, cosmopolitan and bustling town centre. With cobbled streets, fin de siecle villas, grand hotels and open squares Chamonix is much more than just another ski resort and has kept much of its original mountain charm and retains a very French, friendly and very alpine atmosphere.

What you can do here:

Chamonix is a large enough town to insure that there is plenty for the non-skier to do. Whatever the pace of your holiday there is an activity to suit everyone from: an impressive sports and swimming complex, beauty salons, spas, ice rink, cross country skiing, paragliding, husky sledding, guided snowshoeing, cinema, museum, casino and weekly market with fresh local produce; and a plethora of shops, designer boutiques, bars, restaurants, terraced cafés and night-clubs, Chamonix offers a combination of skiing, old town charm, après ski and shopping, which few resorts can match. Our bar and restaurant sections provide an overview of what we consider to be some of the best Chamonix has to offer as well as some little gems known only to locals.

Chamonix's Mountains and Views:

Chamonix has without doubt some of the most awe inspiring high mountain scenery to be found anywhere: the tumbling glaciers, soaring Aiguilles, one of Europe?s highest cable cars - the Aiguille du Midi at 3842m - the Mer De Glace and a beautiful alpine town and traditional mountain villages and hamlets dotted along the Chamonix valley. Whether you are looking for a skiing or snowboarding holiday or an alpine summer holiday Chamonix has the answers.

About the Owner

I met my husband at Uni and at the age of 23 we went out to the Alps with the aim of running a catered chalet company - Chalet 1802. Little did we know that we would become builders and each summer over a 10 year period we would renovate three properties.

We now have two little girls and I'm an interior and lifestyle photographer, whilst my husband works in the online marketing - two skills we developed a taste for thanks to the endeavors we incurred running Chalet 1802!

We are now more hands off as far as Chalet 1802 goes, so we primarily offer a self catered chalet, but if you are hoping for a more comprehensive service I am very happy to arrange this for you!

Perfect Ski-In/Ski-Out Chalet !

  • 5 of 5

Chalet Schuss is a luxurious chalet in one of the best locations in the Alps, with stunning views along the Chamonix Valley and direct access to the famous Kandahar piste. The chalet is exceptionally well appointed and perfect for a large group. The furnishings are comfortable and luxurious and perfect for relaxing in after a long day on the slopes.

The owners are exceptionally friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the area - nothing is too much trouble and you are made very welcome from the outset.

I've stayed here numerous times over the past 11 years with both family and groups of friends, as well as having hired the whole chalet for a number of corporate ski trips. I never hesitate to return to this amazing ski chalet, safe in the knowledge that the experience will be first class every time

Fabulous Chalet Schuss

  • 5 of 5

As we drove up the winding roads higher and higher into the mountains the excitement in the car grew and as we pulled to a stop our first view of the chalet took our breath away. Our home for a week and it was stunning, the views, the chalet and the welcome. The chalet was a perfect fit for our family, the in-laws enjoyed the beauty and escape route to their our mini Schuss and our 2 monkeys could charge about the chalet and garden free range. The whole place has obviously been very well thought out, space for hats and coats (not that we needed them as the sun shone all week) beautiful kitchen, fully equipped and enough dinning space inside and out to feed the gaggle comfortably inc BBQ. The bedrooms once they had all been investigated thoroughly where all found to be a delight and once chosen the beds and linen were luxury, the bathrooms where perfect with plenty of space to wash down 2 grubby mini folk after a full day...(climbing, hiking, paddle boarding, mountain biking, ice-cream eating, train riding and general shenanigans). Family afternoon hot tub time was much enjoyed and so was the easy walk down the mountain into Les Houches for breakfast pastries and much needed apero for the in-laws. It was a fantastic week and a fantastic chalet. Thank you Charlie for your advice on places to go with mini folk and for all your help with the booking etc. What a summer.

Fabulous Alpine Summer Holiday

  • 5 of 5

The Chalet Schuss was absolutely perfect for a luxury, 3-generation family Summer holiday. The location and views throughout the day and night are simply breathtaking. The vista of the Chamonix valley stretches to the North and mountain views are all around.

The chalet accommodation is terrific with plenty of space for all, great kitchen, living room, bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms. Evening bbq on the wooden deck was high on the popularity polls next only to the hot tub with the best views in the world. My wife and I slept in the annex to the main chalet and it was wonderfully comfortable and well knitted out. It also had its own spectacular view visible from the bed- great to wake up to.

Charlie the owner was the provided friendly, courteous and very efficient service and we hated to leave the chalet Schuss after our week. I unreservedly recommend this beautiful, luxurious and relaxing chalet for a Summer vacation and I'm sure we will be back.

Spectacular Views in great family chalet

  • 4 of 5

We are just back from a one week stay with family, our party was nine in total. I think this is one of the best views in the valley, taking in Mont Blanc, Aiguille du Midi and looking down the valley. The sun rises onto the front of the chalet and moves round the balcony meaning in summer you can sit in the sun until 6pm or later. The view of Mont Blanc on our last night at last light on a clear night was very special. You get the view by being up the mountain and its does mean a drive up from Les Houches or a rather challenging but more direct walk up, the younger members of our group were keener on the walk than I was.

As two families of nine in total, the layout of the Chalet worked very well for us with bedrooms on three floors and in the separate chalet, the separation was good but not too much. It was also good to have the tv / library room downstairs although we did not use it much it would be very good if children and adults wanted to do different things.

Also a thank you to Charlotte for being so helpful when we were late arriving by providing some food after the shops were shut.

I would have no hesitation in recommending this Chalet, I would describe it as rustic and quaint rather than modern and high spec but that does not mean it does not have everything you need its just to describe the character which is all part of its charm. In winter it must be so easy to ski out of the Chalet onto and down the Kandahar run you are literally right next to it.

Book it - you wont regret it.

Good value spacious chalet in an excellent location

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time here. The chalet has a nice family feel to it. It is in a tremendous location for the slopes, great views and a large garden for kids to play and sledge in. The separate "shepherds hut" with bedroom was fun too. Charlotte could not have been more helpful. We will certainly be back. Our only caveat is not about the chalet but about the resort. If you have been to Chamonix before you will know that it is really a collection of closely located slopes. We had a 4x4 for our trip to get around and that worked well for us. Ashley.

The Best Week of your lives

  • 5 of 5

That view, that view that view... This is the best view in the Valley. I should know. I rented this lovely chalet for two perfect years with my family. Ski in , ski out to catch the powder snow and ski back for lunch or to collect the rest of your group! No need for cars to go skiing in a wonderful family ski resort with plenty of off piste in good snow. A hot jacuzzi with a glass of wine, a nice sauna followed by a 20 min walk down the road - or 5 mins in the car, to a restaurant finishes off your day perfectly. In summer, well ... the beauty of the Alps will take your breathe away.... The nearby tennis club and golf club are very accessible, with climbing and biking for the kids on your doorstep. The lifts up to the top of the mountains give you access to a whole new world with good footpaths so you don't have to be a huge walker to appreciate the spectacular mountains. This is the PERFECT chalet, with five bedrooms in which we had the most perfect and unique days of our lives. The owners are wonderful and will attend to all your needs with a smile. They are a lovely family.

We loved the place so much that we bought nearby! Happy holidays🎄

Location

From the Owner

Honestly, Chamonix is such a cool resort. The views are better than any other resort I've seen, the town is buzzing and the skiing is great. Summer is even better too.

Chalet Schuss stands by the side of the legendary Kandahar piste - thus offering the luxury of true ski in ski out convenience, which is EXTREMELY rare in Chamonix.

Chamonix is world renowned as the skiing and climbing capital of the world. It hosted the first Winter Olympics in 1924 and since then has been a centre for extreme sports in both summer and winter.

But Chamonix offers far more to you than extreme sports. Sitting at the base of the majestic Mont Blanc (Europe's highest mountain) it is an area of outstanding natural beauty with an elegant and cosmopolitan town centre.

The birthplace of alpine history and home to the magnificent Mont Blanc - at 4807m Europe's highest mountain - Chamonix boasts a superb snow record, a long season (Dec-May), unrivaled off-piste skiing, and views to die for. Indeed Chamonix has an international reputation as having some of the most spectacular, challenging and exhilarating skiing and boarding available anywhere in the world.

If your looking for a family skiing holiday in Chamonix then Les Houches and Le Tour maybe your preferred ski areas. Chamonix, the resort as a whole, can seem huge and therefore rather daunting trying to work out how it all works. And, that's before we figure in the neighboring resorts. The Mont Blanc Unlimited lift pass covers 8 local and 13 regional ski areas with terrain up to 3840m, over 200 lifts and 700km of piste - with the majority of the ski areas being above 2000m. It caters for all standards, from beginners (Le Tour and Les Houches) right through to experts (Les Grandes Montets). Visit our ski areas page, for an in depth look at each of the major areas: Brevent, Flegere, Les Grands Montets, Le Tour, Les Houches and the Aiguille du Midi.
