About the property

1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, sleeps a maximum of 2

The gardener's cottage was converted into this little house and has retained its character and charm with its wooden beam ceiling. Hidden in the two acre garden, with a swimming pool, of an old, private Villa in the historic city centre it is well equipped and consists of a lounge and dining area for 2 people, a curtained-off bedroom with double/twin beds and a separate bathroom and shower. It has air-conditioning in the summer and is not available in the winter. The living room includes a little kitchen with fridge, micro-wave oven and small stove. There is an outdoor table and chairs for dining in the shade. The bathroom and kitchen are both fully equipped and there is also a separate utility room for all your laundry needs. There is private parking in the grounds, and the estate is securely fenced. The cottage is particularly suitable in summer when the garden becomes an extension of your living room. For further details consult property No 38 on the same estate. Scroll on down

When you arrive: At the estate you come to the main gates. Press the button and they will open automatically. Go half way up the drive and on the left, behind the main Villa, you will see the cottage which has a small path leading up to its door. Fresh flowers, a bottle of Chianti with a corkscrew and two glasses will be waiting for you for...a good start. You will also find a book giving useful instructions and information, recommending shops, restaurants, and transport. If you need any further help, information or advice please don't hesitate to ask at the Villa where you will be welcomed and where they speak English. They will show you where the separate laundry facilities are with washing machines, driers and clothes lines. On your last morning you can arrange to leave your luggage in the Villa should you wish to spend more time exploring the city or do some last-minute shopping. Arrival time is after 13:30 p.m. and departure by 10:30 a.m.

Five minutes walk .....: away you have all the necessary food shops and one of the best, typical Tuscan restaurants in Florence, 'Ruggero,' which is a well-kept Florentine secret. A 10 minute walk takes you to the Belvedere Fort and from there to all the best sites, via the Ponte Vecchio. You can also catch a bus from either end of the street and this will take you directly across the city and on to Fiesole, a charming little Roman hill town much favoured by 19th century English tourists. Or take a 6 minute bus trip to 'Bellosguardo' where Elizabeth Barrett Browning had her villa and gaze at the whole of Florence spread out below you. The seaside, with miles of sandy beaches, is about an hour away, and a day trip is easily possible by train from Florence to Venice or Rome. Be Florentine and buy your train, bus, museum and theatre tickets from travel agencies in the city centre; it saves a lot of time and hassle.

Don't forget that food shops in Italy....: Open early at 08:00 in the morning and then shut from 13:00 until between 4 and 5 in the afternoon. They shut at about 20:00. However, there is a supermarket which is open all day. All shops are closed on Sundays, except for cake and ice-cream shops which are only open in the morning. Restaurants serve lunch from 12:00 midday to about 14:00 but not much later (siesta time...), and dinner at night usually between 20:00 and 22:00. Cafes and pizzerias stay open later.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is a private property which our visitors appreciate. We have enjoyed having them to stay for over 10 years. We are not a company or an agency. You will find in the guest book appreciative comments about their holidays and details of their experiences and advice. To quote from a 'thank-you' letter '...your garden Studio in Florence was the most enjoyable place we have rented in Europe and the best equipped...' (A.K.K., Moss Beach, California.) Over the years we have had many happy honeymooners!

Most recent comments:

'We enjoyed our stay enormously, as usual - it really is the only place to stay in Florence.' SD, Polstead, Suffolk, UK.

'The setting was just out of this world. A real heaven...We were so impressed with the accommodation and location that we are already planning a return visit for next year...I have no hesitation in recommending the accommodation to anyone.' S Stevens, Fife, Scotland

The swimming pool is 10 metres from the Cottage. It is not used by the family and is only shared with the Studio (which sleeps two). The pool has sun loungers and a shaded arbour. There is a separate barbecue area in the garden. Wander freely in the romantic garden with its white doves, explore the orchard and olive grove, and enjoy the shade of the ancient trees, giant umbrella pines and cypresses. There are roses and oleanders. The garden is illuminated at night. Visit the kitchen gardens and you may be able to buy fresh eggs, tomatoes and herbs from the gardener. Scroll on down

A beautiful hideaway!

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely place - it is like a secret hideaway from the big and busy city but close enough to walk into it!

Very simple but everything you need inter ms of the cottage. Everything worked well air con, fridge etc. All very clean too. Nice fresh leaves in a vase waiting for you but no chianti which was a little disappointing as it was expected. Joseph is very helpful with bags and maps etc.

The pool was my favourite part as well as the garden. Absolutely delightful to sunbathe and swim so close to the little villa. Lots of space to sit in the garden. Joseph works hard every morning to make sure the pool is clean. Great work! The pool was mainly ours but now and again some of the people from the house (whom were guests) and the studio used it but they were friendly so no problem.

Easy to walk into town from the villa. Down the hill and through the city walls. We didnt use a bus or a taxi as walking was fine!

A perfect place for much needed relaxation while having access to everything. We will be back ....

Quaint, pretty cottage set outside of the City

  • 4 of 5

We loved our stay in the Gardener's cottage, it was the perfect retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the town (minus the insects!) It was great to be able to chill by the pool as the weather was really hot, and we had it to ourselves almost the whole length of our stay. The accommodation was simple, but we loved cooking our own meals and eating dinner by the pool admiring the gardens. We'd definitely recommend staying there and we'd go back!

Great base from which to explore Florence

  • 4 of 5

We booked this property as we wanted a good value base from which to explore Florence which was close to the sights but also had a pool to relax by. It met all our expectations. The host was very friendly and gave us some tips on where to visit. The location was great - a 20 minute walk to the Ponte Vecchio, and away from the crowds. The cottage itself is very basic, and small, but in line with the price which was fine. The setting is beautiful, lovely grounds and a pleasant pool. As with other reviews, the mosquitos are quite enthusiastic - so take plenty of repellent. On arrival, proceed to the back of the main villa and knock on the door by the little footbridge.

A very small, simple villa just large enough for 2

  • 3 of 5

A very small villa, simply equipped (e.g. 2 ring freestanding hob and microwave only) and fairly basic, but just enough for 2 people. The location is ideal for visiting Florence and has all you need a walk away. The quiet location is very nice and the pool is a good addition. Or problem was the mosquitos which made relaxing outside very difficult and precautions were needed all the time, inside or out.

Schöne Zeit am Stadtrand von Florenz.

  • 3 of 5

Well located

  • 5 of 5

The location couldn't really be any better. Considering that you have a pool, it is located very near to the centre. We walked into town every day and it took about 20-25 minutes into the centre.

The accommodation is clean but rustically basic, but it had all the facilities to cook simple meals and eat them in the surrounding gardens.

The mosquitos are absolutely vicious so if you come bring plenty of repellent!

The pool is a good size for dipping into with a fair bit of shade and it got sun until 7pm.

Only downside was that it wasn't clear who would be meeting us when we arrived, as we didn't have a mobile number for the gardener (who let us in), and also paying the vendor was a bit confusing as they weren't there most of the week. But this is a minor downside.

2 Kilometres

Nearest Motorway
3 Kilometres
Autostrada A1 exit Firenze-Certosa
Car: not necessary

Only a 20 minute drive from Florence airport and 10 minute taxi ride from the station, this small cottage is in a quiet, exclusive area, between the Boboli Gardens and the Imperial Palace, and only 10 minutes walk from the historic centre. It is within 3 minutes walk from the gates of the property to a bus stop, 5 minutes from food shops, and 10 minutes drive from the Florence Certosa exit on the Autostrada A1. The property has been in the family of my cousins since the early nineteenth century. The estate is in a conservation area, protected from any further building, and therefore tranquil and secluded without being remote. You can easily explore Florence with its narrow streets, palaces, museums and churches and its wonderful shops of international fashion designers. Then come home to rest and enjoy the calm of the garden and the pool.
