About this property

Enchanting 15th Century Villa In The Heart Of The Tuscany

Villa Trenta is a magnificent villa dating back to the 15th century located at the foot of the famous hills that surround the beautiful city of Lucca. With large, airy rooms and frescoed walls, it is an enchanting example of the summer residences built by the noble families of Lucca in centuries past to escape the heat and noise of the city. Furnished with antiques and with minimal changes to the original building, the villa will charm aesthetes and culture enthusiasts alike.

The property is set within a large stone-walled garden, typical of the region, which hosts centuries-old trees and several water points and possibilities for al fresco dining and relaxing. Built on several plateaus, all with their distinctive atmosphere, the gardens create wonder and excitement at every turn, providing both intimate spaces and large lawns of lush green grass. The alleys, dotted with lemon trees, lavender and local herbs contribute to create a priceless out-of-time feeling.

Located 5 km from Lucca, the villa is an ideal base to enjoy the Tuscan countryside and is within easy reach of the main cities in Tuscany such as Florence, Pisa, and even Sienna and San Gemignano. The Versilia coast (Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi) with nice beaches, excellent restaurants, nightlife and shopping facilities is a 30-minutes’ drive away. While the walled garden provides absolute privacy, the property is also within walking distance of the main square of Ponte a Moriano.

The villa is a made up of a single building with a surface of 2,500 m² spread over 4 floors, each with a distinct look and atmosphere, testament to the multiple functions of villas in the past. The first floor, with its high ceilings and frescoed walls, was historically the owner’s residence. The ground and second floor offer a more rustic feel with thick wooden beams and dark terracotta floors.

Ground floor: The main entrance hall, which used to be the ballroom, leads to a large wine cellar lined with old wine and olive oil barrels, a play area with a billiard and a ping pong table and 1 bedrooms with ensuite bathroom and direct access to the garden. A separate entrance also provides access to a fully-equipped summer kitchen complete with an old stone oven which can be used to cook pizza. The first floor hosts a majestic dining room, two spacious living rooms and a reading room with floor to ceiling antique bookshelves, a large kitchen with a direct access to the garden and 7 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. The second floor includes 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and two large living rooms.

Included services: 3 hours of daily housekeeping (except Sundays), linen change on Saturday, gardner and pool attendant, welcome basket.

Extra services: extra services can be arranged at the time of booking. Examples include wine tastings, chef service, daily breakfast service, pizza nights, extra housekeeping, etc. Do not hesitate to ask for our trusted providers!

Stay in Ponte a Moriano
I stayed in the villa with my family and friends (22 people) and we had a wonderful time! Lorenzo was an amazing host, very communicative and accommodating. We hired a pizza chef and another chef a couple times which I would highly recommend. We also used the kitchen to cook for our big group, and it had everything we needed. The villa did get a little warm during the peak heat of August, but the fans in each bedroom helped. The property is beautiful, exactly like the pictures. We did require cars to go to the grocery store and Lucca about a 15-20 minute drive away. Would highly recommend!

A very special and beautiful villa for a family holiday
Villa Trenta provided a wonderful and memorable backdrop to our holiday and Isabelle was an attentive and welcoming host. We were a large family party of 24 with ages ranging from 4-73. Our initial apprehension about age and grandeur eased as everyone became familiar with the layout and feel of the house. In fact, the villa feels very much like a family home and we managed to organise rooms so family groups were either next to each other or children slept with parents (the rooms are huge). The swimming pool is lovely, well cared for with plenty of shade and a lush grass surround appreciated by children and dogs. The children loved ping pong, table football and chess or cards in the library. Grown-ups valued good wifi, local information and intel from Isabelle, the library and all the places around the property to chill out. The villa’s proximity to Florence, Lucca and Pisa for sightseeing is a bonus, and the younger party members even had an evening in the nightspots of Lucca. Bathrooms were all working well with hot water all the time. Even in August the villa was cool at night and the fabulously comfortable beds with fans in the bedrooms ensured everyone slept well. The large main kitchen was well equipped and had plenty of space for 8 or more of us to prepare meals together. The smaller upstairs kitchen was useful for early suppers for our younger family members. Housekeeping help in the mornings was a real bonus and recommended for a large group especially for bathrooms and kitchens. We absolutely loved the terrace for al fresco dinners. Although it is on the other end of the villa from the main kitchen (a challenge for anyone in charge of the ancient trolley with the squeaky wonky wheel) we ate there most evenings for the atmosphere and cool breeze. We employed a chef for one special evening dinner: it was a perfect evening of wonderful food and great service - highly recommended. There is an excellent supermarket about five minutes’ drive away and the local village walking distance for bread and local produce. Isabelle gave some of us a fascinating intro to other villas in the area and we visited a couple of her recommendations. Her local knowledge, obvious pride and love of the area and its villas is inspiring. Our family feedback that they had the best holiday: ‘delightful and relaxing’, ‘a marvelous place with so much character, history and comfort’, ‘a beautiful place to spend time together'.

Enchanting Villa
This beautiful 16th century villa has charmed all of us. We spent there a week in July, with other 5 families with children. Villa Trenta is simply enchanting piece of Tuscany history, with frescoes walls (my son called the graffiti), furnished with antiques so you can feel like back in time. Surrounding gardens with well maintained trees and plants, superb swimming pool with bouncy bridge, bamboo forest, the tower of close church... this all emphasize the authenticity of being there. The villa is really close to Lucca, so it is very easy to get there by car (15 minutes) or train for day or dinner. The location is suitable for travelling around Tuscany. But what made the week definitely unique were hosts. Isabelle and Massimo are very nice people, openhearted, helpful and sincerely amicable. We will never forget them. And thank you for your great olive oil, Isabelle!

Truly magical
My sister and I celebrated our 40th birthday at Villa Trenta with family from all over the world and everyone was blown away by this gorgeous, authentic, stunning place. I actually felt like I was stepping into a Merchant Ivory film. It utterly feels like a 16th century villa because it has been lovingly maintained with original features and beautiful furniture. It is quite simply a gem of a find. At one point there were were 20 of us and it always felt spacious and if you wanted to find a quiet area there was no problem at all. The pool area is lovely and can be shut off (if you have young kids). The games room got used a lot and one night we had a meal cooked for all of us and we ate in the dining room. The town of Ponte a Moriano is a five min walk down the hill and there are some very good restaurants which will easily cater for large groups - we had some stand out meals there and in Luuca which is only 20 mins away and a beautiful town. Finally - Isabelle and Massimo are just such gracious and lovely hosts. They were there to answer all questions, they made us feel so welcome and also let us enjoy the beautiful property for the family at the same time. If you want a real slice of Tuscany in a villa that is charming, huge, and so inviting I could not recommend this place and Isabelle and Massimo more. It felt a privilege to stay there.

While I spent all my childhood holidays here on the family estate, I grew up and studied in Belgium where I met my wife. After a few years of experience in investment banking, private banking and entrepreneurship, we both decided to change our lifestyles completely and dedicate our passion to bringing our beautiful family estate back to its former splendor. Sharing this beauty with our guests and seeing it come to life as friends and families spend unforgettable holidays here fills us with joy and pride.

Why they chose this property

The villa has been our family's summer residence since the 1930s, when we purchased it from the Trenta family who had owned it for more than 500 years. Although family members now reside in different countries and continents, this is the place where we gather and reunite every year. We have toured the world, yet no other place brings us the combination of culture, art, food, nature and peace of mind that we find in Tuscany.

What makes this property unique

What strikes our guests the most is the out-of-time feeling that the villa exudes. As we remain the primary users of the property, we have kept the historical antique furnishings, down to the smallest detail, making a stay here seem like a voyage in time.

The villa's inner garden, which boasts a size of more than 10,000m², is surrounded by an ancient stone wall, ensuring total privacy and disconnection from the outside world.

Finally, the volumes in the house itself are impressive, and unseen anywhere else, with the majority of rooms and bedrooms measuring more than 50m², and some even reaching 100m² with ceilings up to 5m high.
