About this property

27 Riverfront Acres of Serene Mountain Views - Total Privacy & Seclusion

Vacation at this secluded property offered by All Get Out Vacation Rentals! (Please note that the map view is not accurate -- it is approximately 4 miles north of Stuart Recreation Area)

Enjoy your own private beach with no other houses in sight. Open meadows, trees, river and stream -- this secluded yet accessible cabin has it all. Warm and welcoming three bedroom, 2 full baths, sleeping porch, open kitchen with modern appliances, gas grill, outdoor fire-pit, and fine furnishings throughout.

Listen to the sound of the babbling brook within 50 feet of the house while lounging in the sunroom or relaxing on the deck. In addition, the property has 27 acres of private beach access to the Shavers fork river. The house is engulfed in a narrow band of trees and surrounded by meadows and glades for walks (bring long pants and socks to explore). It is also situated just 1/4 mile upstream from the one-million acre Monongahela National Forest.

The house features natural wood-plank paneling and a well-appointed kitchen, free wifi, 2 televisions with satellite TV and DVD players, and a stereo/home theater system. The kitchen is open to the dining area, perfect for social cooking. The sunroom has seating for dining or board games with a full view of the stream so you can enjoy the outdoors even in inclement weather.

This cozy ground-level home sleeps 8 in beds with additional options of the living room pull-out and sun porch (the latter in warm months or for the polar bears in your group). There is a MBR w/ Queen; BR #2 w/ Queen, BR #3 w/ two sets of Twin bunks, Livingroom w/ Queen pull-out sofa, and (unheated) Sun Porch w/ a queen bed.

For fall or early spring visits, the house features electric heat and a wood-stove (a modest amount of firewood is included in the rental fee). There is a window unit A/C in each of the three bedrooms and the living room, and ceiling fans in each of the queen bedrooms and the living room.

In winter months, be prepared for snowy and/or icy road conditions by driving a 4WD or suitable vehicle. Note that we are now requiring 4WD for winter rental (or chains). It's advisable whenever driving in wintry conditions in the mountains of WV as the roads are often hazardous. At times the snow can be deep and it takes 24-48 hours before it is plowed, therefore you should be prepared to be flexible about travel.

The cabin is remote, so even in clear weather its narrow mountain gravel road can be concerning to those not experienced. Depending on whether the road crew has done repairs recently, there may be potholes. In most cases you can drive around them, but there may be a few on the way that you’ll just need to slowly drive through. There are also no guardrails on the road, but it has several turnouts to allow cars to pass. The gravel is not suitable for street motorcycles, we've been told.

Please be aware of the close proximity of the stream to decide if the risk is too great for your toddlers or other children who might leave the house unsupervised. Our other Vrbo listing #317752 has a larger land buffer between the house and the moving water.

The river is about a 5 minute walk across the property from the house. There is absolutely no vehicular traffic allowed off the driveway.

Pet friendly -- dogs only please, and no more than two dogs per reservation unless owner exception is granted in writing.

Owners provide a starter quantity of paper products, bathroom soap, and laundry/dish detergent. Personal toiletries are to be provided by Guests.

If you are looking for a remote mountain getaway and are willing to roll with what comes from a country vacation, you will be hard pressed to find a more beautiful spot!

Because the house is surrounded by forests, the creek, and the river, there is plenty of nature to enjoy but also to endure. Mice will occasionally come inside, and although we set hidden traps to keep them from settling in, there is a possibility that you will see them during your stay depending on whether they've found a food source recently (it could be from a prior guest -- not your own doing.) We do, however, check to make sure that the kitchen implements are sanitary at the beginning of your stay.

The bug situation is that we are at a high enough elevation to not have a mosquito problem, but there will be gnats in the field, and moths at night wanting to get into the house. There will also be plenty of dead bugs that wedge themselves between the screens and the windows.

If these aspects of nature are acceptable to you, then you will find a beautiful place of nature in which to relax and enjoy your vacation!

Awesome experience
With the deepest appreciation Larisa for sharing your property with us. Very comfy and cozy with plenty of space to roam freely, everything we needed for our stay. The beautiful mountain scenery with access to the river was awesome, serene and peaceful don't come close to describing our experience. Will definitely return!

Super cute and cozy
The house was so nice and cozy and clean with easy-to-follow instructions on check in and out. It was supplied with plates, pots, pans, utensils, etc. So cooking is a ready option as there weren't many common options to eat (for us, at least) If you like the quiet and seclusion then I would recommend giving this place a try!

Fall Break Trip with the Kids
We had a wonderful and relaxing stay in this cozy cabin. It was well supplied with all the basics and more in the kitchen. The hot tub was nice under the stars and the fire pit was in a great spot. We walked over to the river and saw lots of deer and small wildlife. The bathrooms were unexpectedly nice for a cabin and even had heated floors. We enjoyed unplugging and playing some games as a family and spending a lot of time outdoors. Our host was really responsive when I had a question about the hot tub and sent someone over to check on it. The grill was clean with full propane and there was plenty of firewood. We went horseback riding one day in Davis and checked out Blackwater falls one day, as well as Seneca Rocks. I recommend this property for a family.

Carl and Larisa got married and moved to Elkins, WV in 2000. Larisa moved from DC, and Carl moved from VA. Each had prior roots in WV and longed to return.

Why they chose this property

The location is ideal -- just far enough out to be immersed in the natural surroundings, but only 25 minutes from a full-service grocery store, movie theater, Davis and Elkins College, Randolph County Community Arts Center, antique shopping, and a YMCA. It is an hour from highly-rated golf or skiing. Spring and summer bring wonderful fishing, swimming, floating, and boating in the river; winter is great for cross-country skiing on the property or nearby, and alpine skiing is less than an hour's drive. Fall's foliage is not to be missed as the house is engulfed in trees and adjacent to the 1 million acre Monogahela National Forest, wonderful for hiking right out your door. Don't miss nearby Elkins to dine at a variety of restaurants, enjoy free exhibits at the Community Arts Center, and ride the scenic trains on the Durbin and Greenbrier Railroad. Davis and Elkins College is just 20 minutes away where you can enjoy live music and Appalachian arts at the internationally renowned 5-week long Augusta Festival. The Forest Festival every fall is a big draw, with carnival rides and almost two weeks of activities.

What makes this property unique

In 2001 Carl and Larisa were fortunate to have the opportunity to buy this lovely acreage on the banks of the Shavers Fork River from a family friend, just next door to the cabin Larisa built in 1995 (Vrbo #317752). Since that time they have made several improvements, while keeping the original character that the builder, a mill owner, had created in handmade wormy chestnut kitchen cabinets, exceptional stonework, and plank poplar paneling throughout. You can hear the creek flowing behind the house as the summer night breezes keep you cool.
