About the property

House, 3/4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

Nestled in the winding streets of the medieval village of Vias (two km. from sandy Vias Beach and 5 km. from Agde and the Vias/Agde train or airport), La Belle Cour is comprised of two delightful early 19th century village houses which have been beautifully restored, retaining original beams and deep stone walls, and now form one property, set around a charming private courtyard. This flowery and quiet courtyard with a built-in barbecue, ancient stone sink, and comfortable table and chairs is an inviting place to relax at any hour of the day or night.

From the courtyard, French doors open into a living room/dining room with traditional beamed ceiling. On the same floor is the bright and cheerful kitchen, with a window opening out on the courtyard, fully equipped with all you need to prepare anything from the simplest to more adventurous gourmet meals!

From the living room, a sturdy spiral staircase leads to two upstairs bedrooms and bathroom. Two additional bedrooms and a bathroom are reached from a stairway in the courtyard.

A perfect base to explore the fascinating Languedoc region, the friendly little village of Vias is surrounded by rolling hectares of vineyards, yet is just minutes from long sandy beaches to the south, historic towns such as Pezenas and Beziers to the north, and interesting day trips in every direction. All necessary amenities (including the best bakery just around the corner, and restaurants from simple to elegant) are steps away.

Wonderful La Belle Cour

  • 5 of 5

I visitied La Belle Cour with my husband and friends - We had a just wonderful holiday. We enjoy to cook as an alternative of visiting the great cafés and restaurents on the square, three steps away from the house. In La Belle Cour we could find everything we wished for regarding kitchen householdequipment (not least the great built in barbeque grill in the courtyard). The two apartments are united by a wonderful inner courtyard - Perfect to eat breakfast, enyoy a glass of wine (or two.. ;) ) after visiting the beach or just relaxing with a good book. I am dreaming about it as I write - We want to go back!!

Authentic, rustic, charming

  • 5 of 5

Would return in a heartbeat. Our stay at La Belle Cour was everything I had imagined and more. Everything we needed was available in the rental. It was clean, well stocked and provided all our needs. Ability to purchase anything we needed was easy due to the close location of the grocery stores, wine shop, bakery and pastry shops. Cafes and resturantes were plenty in the plaza and the ability to experience the evening activities in the town square at night was priceless. The owners were extremely responsive and eager to assure our stay was wonderful. I would recommend this rental without hesitation.

Like living with the locals as a travel writer likes to say. La Belle Cour is right in the heart of town. Close to the patisserie, the church, the shops, the restaurants – all a couple of blocks away. Parking is in a lot around the corner where we always found space. Touring sites are within an hours drive. Vias Beach is close by. The best beach, though, is the secluded beach at Vieux Cap d’Agde.

This 3 story house, off a narrow alley, is spacious with a nice size kitchen with every convenience, comfortable living/dining area, 2 main bedrooms (with additional beds and sofa beds in adjoining rooms) and 2 bathrooms Very comfortable beds!. You enter through a delightful courtyard with outdoor sink, barbeque, table and chairs. Included in the house are a clothes washer (much appreciated), a dryer (big surprise) and wifi (very convenient). And then there is a narrow spiral staircase which is a challenge if you are tall, large or past the age of adventure. Doable because, after all, you are on vacation.

Just like home, you can be entertained by the TV, DVD or travel books about the surrounding area. There is a walking route of the town that we were unable to take. I would encourage one to go and get a feel for the past. There is nothing like immersing yourself in your surroundings. Just two of us rented but it would accommodate two couples or two families with children.

The best part of the week was the Wednesday and Saturday markets just 10 steps away. Saturday was extremely crowded but all the more fun because of it. Have you ever seen mounds of olives? Huge pans of paella? Yes, we ate well.

We found everyone we met very friendly and welcoming. Our morning hangout was the Festival Patisserie for the best beurre croissants and café au lait. L’Amandine Restaurant in the square was a treat. Big, beautiful and delicious salads, pasta, huge shrimp, breast of duck, etc, etc, etc,

The south of France is very different from the rest of the country. Very much influenced by Italy and Spain. Well worth a visit when La Belle Cour makes it a pleasure.

Belle Cour + Languedoc = Fabulous

  • 5 of 5

We had a family reunion in Vias with La Belle Cour as our base and had a marvelous time. Vias and the surrounding towns are absolutely stunning. It seems that any road takes you to beautiful countryside and beautiful towns.

Vias is small and easily explored (even by the older people in our family) but has many opportunities for great food and wine. A week in the house and in Vias with family makes one rethink how to spend one's life.

Our family of 5 stayed at La Belle Cour for a week

this summer and had a wonderful time. There was

plenty of space and we enjoyed nearly all of our

meals out in the courtyard. We loved the little

village of Vias and it's market , the bakery just a

few doors away was the best we found in France,

and the nearby beaches were great.

La Belle Cour was a lovely and relaxing place to stay - more like a home than holiday accommodation. I stayed in August 2008 with a group which included 2 children and there really was something for everyone in the surrounding area. The bakeries just round the corner made even breakfast a treat and we all really enjoyed the walking tour of Vias.

About Anne Woodyard

We fell in love with this charming property and the village when we first visited, and stayed in the property which was then a B & B. Through the years we've enjoyed it with our extended family and friends, and we love hearing stories from those who stay there - Vias is a marvelous place in which to enjoy the south of France!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our family of 7 (3 from Texas and 4 from Hong Kong) had a wonderful time in this beautiful spot in Vias. We ate every meal in our little courtyard and made multiple trips to the bakery every day. We loved every minute of it and can't wait to go back!
