Comfortable Studio Apartment - Beach 40 yards, Holetown 400 yards

Bedrooms Studio
Space 440 sq. ft.
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 3 - 6 nights

About the property

Perfect for couples or a group of 3 friends.

Comfortable apartment in beautifully kept tropical gardens just steps from the white coral sands, crystal blue waters and palm trees of Discovery Bay. The apartment is bright and airy with colourful fabrics, hardwood and cane furniture, and fans providing a cooling breeze. There is a very well equipped kitchen so you can rustle up anything from freshly caught tuna to a rum punch for sun downers. Enjoy watching humming birds feeding among the hibiscus and monkeys scampering up trees as you relax on the balcony. A wide range of bars and restaurants, an excellent supermarket and duty free shopping are all just a short walk away in Holetown. If you need to keep in touch there is free wireless broadband access for your laptop.

Eating and Drinking: Zacchios Restaurant is a favourite 5 minutes stroll away with water side eating at sensible prices. Nearby Inn on the Beach has a great value buffet lunch and lovely setting. Surfside Bar & Restaurant has a great Happy Hour, simple beach menu and TV screens for sports lovers. ular bars a short walk North and Lexy Piano Bar enlivens the town. Holetown's First and Second Streets offer a mix including Mediterranean, Bajan, South Indian, Italian, Sushi and Asian restaurants. For upmarket dining Tides and The Mews deserve their reputations. Further afield The Fish Pot, North of Speightstown is worth the bus ride - as is Cariba to the South. To eat like the locals try the roadside vans - or the fish frys at Oistins and Half Moon Fort. Patisserie Flint can ease you into another laid back day with a latte and delicious banana bread. If you just want to sit on a beach with a rum punch Harry our gardener has a family recipe and will gladly mix you a bottle of his finest.

Beaches around the island: Discovery Bay and Settlers beaches are ideal for swimming with gently shelving sand, jet ski free areas marked by buoys & floating platforms for diving or sunbathing. If you want to chill in the shade with a good book they are fringed with Coconut Palms & Casuarina trees & Bougainvillea adding a splash of colour. Water skiing and other aqua sports are available on the beach - or you can book ahead at Sandpiper's kiosk. Mullins & Gibbs beaches are 4 miles north, Sandy Lane beach 2 miles south. Brighton beach just north of Bridgetown has a glorious expanse of sand + the delightfully laid back Weisers Bar.The South East Coast is a favourite place with all types of surfer. The East Coast is a complete contrast - almost deserted with big Atlantic rollers crashing in rather than the gentle Caribbean Sea. It is rugged and beautiful but beware of the dangerous undertow in many places. Crane Beach is superb - with a great deli en route. Best eating places there: The Cove & The Crane.

Barbados and the Bajans offer so much: Barbados is a very beautiful island, with lots of art, activities, nightlife, music, history, great restaurants. But what makes Barbados special, and the reason so many visitors return year after year, is the Bajans who are warm, charming, always ready with a smile. They make you feel welcome and really at home on this lovely Caribbean Island. - - Do try a half day catamaran cruise up the West coast with lunch, drinks, wreck snorkeling and a swim with turtles. It departs just by Art Studio. - - Barbados has a reputation for having the finest golf in the Caribbean, with championship at Sandy Lane & Royal Westmoreland 5 minutes away and Royal Barbados Golf Club further south. - - Also: Kensington Oval, best known of all West Indian Cricket Grounds - - Rum distillery tour and rum shops - - Wildlife Reserve (north) - - Andromeda Botanical Gardens (east) - - Harrison's cave with impressive stalactites & and stalagmites (centre) - - the largest military garrison in the Caribbean. - - Enjoy.

About Sarah or Simon Ellis

We live in Cambridge UK with Katy and Sammy who are 16 and 14.

They love swimming with the turtles and the fresh fish at Ju Ju's Beach Restaurant.

Sarah or Simon Ellis purchased this apartment in 2000

Why Sarah or Simon Ellis chose Holetown

We bought Art Studio #7 in 2000 on our 3rd trip to Barbados. It is great to walk out the door and be on the beach in less than a minute. The Bajans are the friendliest people we have ever met, fantastic with children and wonderfully laid back.

What makes this apartment unique

40 yards/metres from the beach.

Lovely tropical gardens

Holetown on your doorstep.

Everything you need! .

1. My thanks for a wonderful stay in your appt last week. It was a great escape and an enjoyable first glimpse of Barbados! I thoroughly enjoyed it but didn't really do justice to all the places to see and visit in the time I was there but it gives me a good reason to go back. 2. Thanks for a brilliant holiday in Art Studio. We had a great time. Please pass our thanks to Harry, Audrey & Helena. 3. We had a fantastic time thank you very much. 4. We enjoyed our Christmas break at Art Studios. It was a great place to be for 2 weeks. Harry & Audrey were great. 5. We had a lovely time - just what we needed - nothing nicer than a tan for the New Year.

You will be well looked after by our friendly staff. Meschelle is the Housekeeper who looks after our apartment. She is assisted by Helena (maid) and Elvis the gardener/handyman. They will ensure things run smoothly and answer any questions for you. We can arrange for you to be picked up at the airport by a local taxi firm.

Well appointed apartment in a central location

  • 4 of 5

The property is in an ideal location. A walk through the gardens and you are on the beach. It is also only 5 minutes to Lime Grove shopping centre and 10 minutes to the centre of Holetown.

The apartment is well appointed and very clean. For what you get in Barbados, in this location, it is excellent value for money. It is lovely to sit on the balcony having a meal and being on the first floor you do get a little breeze which is more than welcome.

The wifi is excellent, plenty of kitchen equipment and there is even a good selection of books to read.

There is also a no noise policy after 11pm which ensures you a good nights sleep.

We would recommend this to friends and relatives as a good value apartment in an ideal location.

Needs refurbishing and website updating

  • 2 of 5

Upon arrival, we were very disappointed with the apartment as it did not resemble the photographs shown on the website. We were told these photographs were taken some years ago and used to advertise other apartments on the site.

Overall the apartment could do with being redecorated and the bed/furniture/whitegoods updating as they were looking old and tired, although the rusty old fridge worked well, it kept you up most of the night.

The infestation of small ants were everywhere, bathroom, kitchen work surfaces, but we put that down to the Caribbean way of life!!

Some of the information provided could do with updating, for instance, the laundry room is not available for use, only through the housekeeping services. The staff that look after the apartments are new, and we felt they could have been more amenable.

The TV/radio didn't work for the length of our stay, which we did report, they tried to fix it but to no avail. So we had nothing to listen to during our stay.

Overall the property was well looked after and kept as clean as they possibly could, the gardens were well maintained and situated close to the beach.

Would we recommend this apartment to a friend or others? No not in its current condition!! Would we stay here again? No, we would pay more money for a more comfortable property.

Overall we enjoyed our holiday and love Barbados and we will return once again, albeit to different accommodation.

Many thanks

Karen and Derek.

Outstanding base for moderately priced Holetown holiday

  • 4 of 5

Arts Studio 7 is a clean and attractively furnished studio in a little condominium complex with direct access to the beach (and superb swimming) on the edge of Holetown. The location is excellent - an easy stroll by beach or road to the facilities of Holetown. The studios are set in small but well tended grounds. In the December to March period there are lots of longer term guests in the complex who have been coming for many years so there is a friendly and welcoming social community. The properties are excellent value given their Holetown location. Slight drawbacks are lack of air conditioning (good screened windows and a fan provide reasonable cooling on all but the hottest days but this does mean you have to accept some traffic noise plus cockerel next door (from 5am)), limited parking - there would have been an issue if one more guest had chosen to have a car - and outlook (the terrace of no 7, which is the only place in the studio equipped for sitting, looks out on the carpark - enlivened by beautiful orchid tree with humming birds. visiting monkeys and mongoose but still a carpark). The windows of the studio are obscured for privacy so there is not much view from the studio itself. It is also worth noting that although there are some loungers and chairs in the communal gardens there is no pool - but wonderful swimming direct from the property so only really an issue when the sea is rough (there were red flags on 2 days during our stay).

Wonderful - close to everything we needed!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at apartment #7 October 22-29. It was small, but exactly what we wanted. It was very clean, and lots of fans to provide a comfortable sleep at night.

We loved the close proximity to the beach and enjoyed a coffee and a swim each morning.

We explored various restaurants and shops in the area and enjoyed touring the country.

Thank you to Simon and Sarah for providing us with lots of information beforehand and thank you to Heleena and Meschelle for keeping the place beautiful.

An absolutely awesome vacation!!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first trip to Barbados, and I totally fell in love with the place we stayed in. The apartment was just beautiful, very clean, and had everything you need for comfortable stay. The entire staff was so nice and friendly, and we absolutely enjoyed every single moment there! Beautiful beach was just around the corner, and all good restaurants, bars and supermarkets were within 5-10 min walking distance. We definitely found what we were looking for, and I am very grateful for that.

Thank you for everything!

Still Smiling

  • 5 of 5

A wedding was what brought us to Barbados in May, which we gather is slightly out of season but still beautiful but relatively quiet, which is always a bonus. Our first visit but it will definitely not be our last. The search for accommodation began the year before and the Studio Apartment was perfect for our needs and after seeing the photographs and reading the previous reviews we had no hesitation in booking. It is a lovely bright, clean, well-maintained apartment with a daily maid service, Helena, who is so welcoming and helpful. From the moment we were collected at the airport by Amigo, who is full of the best kinds of information, we felt at home. Holetown is five minutes walk away, with all its amenities, including shops you can spend a fortune in, if that is your bag (forgive the pun) or the local crafts which are beautiful and artistic and much more pleasing to take home. There are plenty of bars and restaurants, a few of which we frequented! The supermarket in the mall is fabulous and stocked with a lot of Waitrose essentials, which we found amusing. The beach behind the apartment, which is really just a stroll away, was as described, blue sky, fluffy clouds, white sand, turquoise sea and the absolute wonder and privilege to swim with our very own turtle, we were utterly in awe. We had a lot of entertainments packed into our wedding week, including a cruise, with booze, for the wedding party (18 of us) that was immense fun and again included turtles, which was amazing, but not quite as special as the personal time spent on the beach behind the apartment with our own turtle. Strolling along the beach in the tide line to restaurants/bars is the stuff of films, but that is what we did. I am writing a book here, the wildlife I loved, the monkeys do visit, as do the mongoose, the bird life is astonishing and has no reservations about jumping on your mug of tea on the balcony on a morning, Elvis the gardener is a match for Gardeners World.... We loved it, the apartment is central but not on the main drag, it is a wonderful Island, the people are enchanting, Papa Earl's food has to be tried, Amigo's recommendation, he pulls up on the green opposite every day at noon, and from the back of his car produces the most delicious traditional food, more than enough for two. You must take your life in your hands and travel on a reggae bus. $2. Enjoy... We did.
