Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for four nights to fish some of the local waters. Accommodation had everything we needed and lots of space. Carmel could not have done enough for us and the location was ideal for walking short distance to pubs and restaurants.

If we are coming back to this area I will certainly be staying here again.

I would highly recommend these cottages.

I'd definitely come here again. The cottage is spacious and clean with a well equipped kitchen. There were 5 of us in 3 of the bedrooms but we could easily have fit 7 or 8 without being at all cramped (there are 3 showers so no queues!). The view from the front door is Diamond Hill, which from the cottage takes about an hour to walk to the top of where you'll see stunning views of the surrounding coast and mountains. The cottage is 200m from the centre of Letterfrack which has several bars and restaurants. The area of Connemara is amazing. The scenery is stunning and there is plenty of varied things to do for all the family; deserted white beaches, wandering around the nearby town of Clifden, boat trips to islands (or walking across to the tidal Omey island), walking up mountains, exploring the grounds and gardens of Kylemore Abbey or kayaking in the fjord (Killary).

Relaxing holiday in wonderful place

  • 4 of 5

We were lucky to arrive at Heatherhil Cottages in blazing sunshine. The sky was so blue, the grass so green and the abundance of flowers in the garden were just wonderful to behold. We had always dreamed of returning to our family roots in Ireland and this proved to be a memorable week. The house was perfect for our group. The property had all the facilities we needed and was very clean and well decorated.

Heatherhill is in a great location – we could walk to the pub in the evening to listen to music and have a pint. During the day we could walk to the local shop and Connemara National Park. We didn’t have to use our car every day which was very relaxing and just what we needed. When we did get into the car there was lots to see close to Heatherhill. Kylemore Abbey was one of my favourites. It is such a beautiful place and the history of the building is fascinating.

The owners were very helpful and gave us lots of advice on the local area – including lending us maps and walking guides. It was so easy to call to the office if we needed anything and they were always so happy to give us as much advice and help as they could – including making reservations and phoning to check opening times of local attractions.

I highly recommend both Heatherhill Cottages and the Letterfrack area.

Excellent holiday ONE TO DO.

  • 5 of 5

We just spent the most wonderful week at Heatherhill Cottages in Letterfrack . it is a fantastic , rural setting - with a small farm and lovely gardens - which was just what our family needed. We could walk into the village each evening for a meal and a drink soaking up the late afternoon sun and watching life go by. We walked back each evening into Heatherhill and just soaked up the tranquillity of the place - the wonderful green lawns and flowers with the back drop of the Connemara National park and Diamond mountain on one side and Tully mountain on the other. We climbed the Diamond Mountain but did not fit in Tully Mountain - we will come back again to climb that mountain.

The highlight of our stay was when our daughter helped the owners children prepare their Connemara Ponies for a show in Galway. She is horse mad but has never had the opportunity to shampoo a horse before !! Not to mention plaiting manes and tails, It was a dream come true for her. On our way home yesterday we stopped at the Galway Show and took part in an event that we never would have considered going to before - it was brilliant - the hundreds of horses and riders, stalls, dog show, hen show - but the pinnacle was cheering on the horse that my daughter had helped get ready as it was awarded first prize.

An unforgettable experience for our family. We are delighted wit hour week and to have met such lovely people as the owners of Heatherhill Farm who included us in such a special event.

cheers Alan.

"Mighty Craic"

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our time in Connemara. After two weeks in overcrowded Istanbul en route from Melbourne it was like an oasis of calm. We got to experience lots of traditional music "sessions" in the local pubs ( we specially enjoyed a place called Paddy Coynes - there were lots of young local people there getting together to sing and dance in the traditional way) and mackerel fishing in Derryenver(not sure on spelling), it was the first time I ever caught anything wild, it was unforgettable. As for the house we stayed in, it was clean and comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. The manager, Carmel, went out of her way to be as helpful as possible and we certainly felt like more than just another number , which was nice. I would certainly recommend staying here, it is within easy reach of all the main local attractions and you can just walk to the national park. It does feel like pot luck booking a holiday rental but this one was a good find.

Letterfrack Farm Cottage is based on a little farm with ponies, horses, pigs and hens in Letterfrack village. Letterfrack is a small but lively village overlooked by the Diamond mountain in the most beautiful part of unspoilt Connemara. The cottage is ideally located beside mountains and sea offering great hillwalking and crystal clear sea and white sands. After a days activity or sight seeing it is a short stroll to the village for a drink and a meal in one of three pubs or restaurants and to listen to some traditional Irish music. Connemara National Park is also based in Letterfrack village a few minutes walk from the house. There is a walkers path all the way to the top of diamond Mountain (one of the 12 Bens) which offers great views out to sea and over to Mayo. There is an interpretive centre and tearoom at the base of the mountain walk and this is also the starting point of other walks. Boat trips can be taken from the pier in Letterfrack. Letterfrack has a good supermarket, butcher and post-office.
