About this property

Elegant Downtown Asheville Homestay Near River Arts District - 4 Min to Biltmore

This charming home in the heart of Asheville recalls the elegance of bygone days. The ground floor has a full 1350 square feet of private space, including 2 large master bedrooms with en-suite full baths, plus a third full bathroom. The living room has a sleeper sofa. There is a large, fully equipped kitchen and dining area.

Green Gables of Asheville, restored by the Interior Designer/Owner, features high coffered ceilings and original period details throughout. Each master bedroom has its own wood-burning fireplace and seating area. The living room, furnished with the comfortable elegance of 1920's period antiques, features a third fireplace and a large flat screen with high definition cable TV and DVD player. There are beautiful antique chandeliers, ceiling fans, and restored heart-of-pine wood floors throughout.

The en-suite bath in Master Bedroom #1 features heated porcelain floor tiles, twin lavatories, a shower and a deep soaking tub in a separate alcove that has an antique stained glass window and candle sconces on the tumbled-travertine walls. Plug cell phones and computers directly into special wall outlets for recharging. En-suite bath in Master Bedroom #2 has a walk-in shower and heated ceramic floor tiles. The third bathroom has an antique claw-foot bathtub with shower.

Green Gables is CLOSE TO EVERYTHING – so take a break from sightseeing or shopping to relax on the huge wrap around porch. Sit in the romantic swing that overlooks the gardens or dine al fresco, and watch the dozens of birds that frequent the bird feeders all day long. The porch is the place to gather on balmy summer evenings to watch the moon rise and to soak up the relaxing, candlelight atmosphere.

Maps and activity guides are provided to help you plan your days and evenings. The home is provided with every convenience – soaps, shampoo and luxury towels, cable TV and CD player (IPod ready), lots of board games, entertainment libraries, wireless high-speed internet, a fully equipped gourmet kitchen with outdoor gas grill, cribs and high chair for babies, and luxurious linens and pillow-top mattresses that promise a restful night’s sleep.

A 7 minute walk brings you to the River Arts District with sidewalk cafes and more than 135 artists’ studios, where some of the best art in America is produced. Other nearby activities include spas, YWCA (10 minute walk), live music & dancing (17 minute walk), yoga (including Bikram Yoga), farmers markets, and University of North Carolina activities – and much, much more. Charming all around!
Our stay at Green Gables exceeded my expectations in every way. The house is just beautiful and the location can not be beat. The owner Georgia was wonderful and makes every effort to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. We traveled with our dogs and I just could not have asked for a nicer experience. The home is ideal for persons traveling with pets. I cant say enough good about the home or the owner. I highly recommend staying at Green Gables. Thank You Georgia!!!!!!!!

Asheville retreat
Loved the house, the neighborhood , and the convenient location. It was walkable to Downtown and the River Arts District so there were numerous options for entertainment and restaurants. The house was well appointed with a beautiful wrap-around porch and a lovely yard. Highly recommended if you want to escape the bustle of the commercial areas but still be close to access the nightlife!

Why they chose this property

The famous BILTMORE ESTATE is only four minutes away, and Asheville’s restaurants, coffee houses, museums, art galleries, and live entertainment are even closer. Shoppers will love the boutiques and the charming, eclectic shops. Many antique stores and warehouses are located less than 10 minutes away – an antique hunter’s paradise with bargains galore. You can walk (less than 10 minutes) to the River Arts District on the west or to the South Slope Brewery District on the east. The Brewery District merges with the Downtown City Center on its northern edge. The center of Downtown is one mile from Green Gables.

What makes this property unique

This location is great for sports enthusiasts. It's a 15-minute walk to one of the best clay tennis courts in the US and a 10-minute drive to the nearest golf course (there are numerous golf courses in Asheville, including the famous Grove Park Inn.) Great biking - there are bike paths right in front of the house, and level bike paths nearby in the River Arts District and the Biltmore Estate). Hilly terrain biking opportunities for mountain bikers abound in town and on the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are two skateboard parks within walking distance.
