About this property

Sicilian farmhouse from the 19th Century - close to the beach and with a large pool

Location and special feature:
In the 19th century, only those people in Italy who owned a house outside of town went on holiday – for example, the well-off citizens of Syracuse.
Even back then „Isola Siracusa“, the green peninsula south of Syracuse, was chosen as a holiday retreat.
Villa Antica, too, was built for this purpose on Isola Siracusa at the beginning of the 19th century.
When the heat in the city became unbearable, a lot of people escaped to their country houses, such as Villa Antica.
Due to the location on a hill, on the peninsula surrounded by the sea, there is always a caressing breeze and the fantastic view of sea and mountains adds to making you feel completely at ease.
Villa Antica stands out as a gem of times gone by and is the ideal holiday accommodation for all those who want to spend authentic holidays in the south-east, in the vicinity of sea, culture and nature.
The holiday home is located on 20,000 m² premises with Mediterranean planting and a pool shared by the guests of Villa Antica and of the accommodations Villa Gialla and Villa Bianca as well as of the guest rooms of B&B Il Casale, which are all found on the same property.

The holiday home:
When we were onsite, the owning family of Villa Antica told us that the house had been completely restored, but that the historic elements had been preserved.
Typically Sicilian, handmade rustic furniture, quarry stone walls, old paintings and the gorgeous wood beamed ceiling will make the hearts not only of those who love art beat faster.
Evidence of the past can be discovered in every corner of the villa.
Follow the traces of the Syracusan upper class and give in to the fascination of the charms of times gone by!

Interior:
Upon entering the holiday home, you find yourself in the spacious living-dining room with TV; like all the rooms of the villa, it has got high ceilings of impressive wooden beams. The living and dining areas are separated by a stone arch.
The villa with its two comfortable and rustically Sicilian style double bedrooms accommodates four persons.
In the kitchen, the brick-work kitchenette includes a 4-burner gas stove, a refrigerator with freezer compartment and a small oven.
The bathroom is equipped with a bathtub with shower device, WC and bidet.
The sunroom is the highlight of the house. It serves as lounge as well as dining room and is accessible from the living room, from one of the bedrooms and also from the garden.
White curtains in the sunroom provide protection from sunlight; this light-flooded oasis of well-being is filled with a very special kind of atmosphere.
Savor a glass of southern Italian red wine and let the day fade away in a relaxed atmosphere while dusk sets in.

Outdoor area:
In the garden and on the terrace next to the house, you find garden furniture, a sun shade, a grill as well as sunbeds at your disposal.
Above Villa Antica, lies the spacious greened area with pool, loungers, changing cubicles and WCs.
The pool, 18 m long, is open from June to October and may even be on warm spring and autumn days (changes due to weather conditions possible).
During high season, you can buy snacks and drinks at the pool bar.

Furnishing:
Villa Antica includes, amongst others, WIFI in the outdoor area , washing machine, grill and air conditioning with heating system.

Parking: Reserved parking is available on the fenced premises.

Surroundings:
The sea and restaurants are 700 m, shopping facilities 1 km off.
The nearest sandy beach with parking and small bar is 1.6 km, a boat rental 1 km off.
We recommend the restaurants 'Ostrica Park' (700 m) and 'Il Circolo' (1 km), which are located directly on the waterfront and serve delicious dishes of fresh-caught fish.
It is only 7 km to Syracuse, a town rich in history.

Lovely quiet location and big swimming pool
Lovely quiet location but great transport links. Beaches and lidos within easy reach. Walkable to restaurants. Pool is really big for a holiday home. Air conditioning cost extra (payable on site). We had WiFi working inside as well as in outside areas. We really enjoyed our break

Beautiful old villa
We were very lucky to have the shared pool to ourselves for our holiday. (I don’t think the pool bar has been open for a long time!) The villa is perfect for watching the sun go down across the fields in front. Perfectly comfortable although things were not very clean in the kitchen when we arrived and it would have been good to have materials available like washing liquid for cleaning the set of towels, spray for surfaces . Francesco sorted out the broken air conditioning quickly (which was good as we paid extra for this) and was available when we needed him.

Quirky villa, beautiful sun room!
We had a great stay at Villa Antica for a week over Easter (end of March/early April). It’s a quirky property, with two large double bedrooms (one with potential to be triple, or bigger). It was clean, the main house stayed lovely and cool, which must be wonderful in the height of summer, but as it was spring, we spent most of our time in the enormous sun room, from where we could watch the sun set. We also sat out on the terrace, which caught the sun most of the day, and our daughter really loved the garden, full of wild flowers and enormous palms and cacti, spotting the lizards and listening to the many birds (one of which sounds like a funny beeping, and we spent some time on our first night trying to discover where the beeping was coming from before realising it was a bird!). There’s an immersion heater for hot water, which worked very well, and the kitchen is well equipped - we appreciated the stove-top espresso maker and the electric orange juicer! The beds were pretty comfy, although perhaps we could have done with an extra pillow or two, and there were plenty of clean towels and blankets etc. Patrizia, the owner, was very responsive and welcoming. The only drawback was that the pool was not in use (only in summer, I think), which was a shame, and I’d imagined we might be able to walk to the beach, but it was a drive, really (especially with a 6 year old). If you rent a car and don’t mind driving, I’d definitely recommend this as a good base for exploring south-east Sicily.
