A tranquil house and garden, close to the sea
We had a big group of guests coming and going over two weeks – and everyone, young and old, enjoyed both the house and the area enormously. There's plenty of space inside the main house for everyone to eat together – but most mornings and evenings we ate outside on the veranda.
The house itself is tasteful and comfortable; the main bedroom is very spacious, and the bathroom is luxurious; but our guests staying in the annexes were perfectly comfortable too, even though the annexes are more basic. In practice, people only used them to sleep in – the rest of the time everyone is relaxing in the garden, on the veranda, or inside the main house. (People staying in the annexes do need to come into the main house to use one of the two bathrooms.)
It was our first time in this area of Sweden, and if you like the outdoors, you'll have a wonderful holiday here. We visited the Koster Islands several times – always a great day out, walking, cycling, swimming off some nice beaches, and the boat ride is enjoyable in itself. The Tradgardar cafe is a delight, nice coffee. Kilesands beach (South Koster) and the Valnas beach (North Koster) are nice places to swim from.
We also did a couple of sections of the Bohusledan Way (Krokstrand to Stromstad); several of us cycled all around the area (lots of quiet roads, gently rolling, no major hills); there are two nice short walks pretty much outside the front door (one going north to Capri beach, probably the best beach we saw), and one along the coast towards Stromstad, which leaves you out at the Stromstad Spa Hotel. You should treat yourself to the full sauna experience there.
And there's a small beach maybe 100 yards down from the house itself, where we had an evening dip most days.
Lars (the owner) is very helpful, and always available on mobile if you have any queries.
And finally, the kitchen has an excellent coffee machine!
