About The Kipper House

Alasdair and I are now semi-retired and moved to Dunbar from Edinburgh because we loved it so much. We bought The Kipper House to use as our own holiday house but quickly decided that we would rather be here than in the city and when the adjacent house, Seapoint, came on the market we bought and renovated that house. We now operate The Kipper House as a holiday home and have done so for 5 years - www.thekipperhouse.co.uk will tell you more! We won't interfere in any way with your holiday but will be here to help in any way we can to ensure that you have a really happy and peaceful holiday by the sea.

The Kipper House purchased this cottage in 2009

Why The Kipper House chose Dunbar

The Kipper House has a unique position on Dunbar's East Beach, a rocky foreshore with great rock pools. Look out of the snug and bedroom windows and your eyes will simply see acres of sky and the open North Sea - the nearest coast is Denmark! Minutes from golf, sandy shores, historic harbours and a living High Street, there is loads to do both in the town and roundabout. If you need a change of scenery, hop on a train or take the car and visit Edinburgh with all that this great historic city has to offer.

What makes this cottage unique

You will love the sunny garden and the sound of the sea. You will love the many walks in woods or by water. With so much to see and do.... or a preference to just sleep and read, The Kipper House has something for everyone wanting a comfortable, restful time break away from home.

Dunbar and Belhaven

Dunbar is an historic East Lothian market town just 30 miles east of Edinburgh. Once a thriving fishing port and garrison town, it is now a quiet haven for sailors, golfers, and nature lovers. With the glorious Belhaven Bay on the doorstep and the distinct beaches of Tyninghame, Rockcliff, North Berwick and Gullane all less than half an hour away, there is a seaside space for everyone. Families will love East Links Farm Park with its new play fort and the children can enjoy tennis, golf, surfing and swimming all in the town. For culture, try the castles of Tantallon, Dirleton and, of course, Edinburgh. Walk on the John Muir Way, tracing the footsteps of the famous environmentalist. Go birdwatching at North Berwick or Aberlady. Try beach riding at Seacliff or Longniddry or micro-lighting at East Fortune. And when the day is over, come back to Dunbar to barbecue in the garden of The Kipper House or walk up into the town for a pub supper or fine meal. With lots to do or peace for doing nothing, East Lothian has it all for a holiday to remember.
