About the property

Central Fowey. 3 bed, 2 bath property on the waters edge with breaktaking views.

2 Albert Place is a beautiful property situated in the heart of the pretty, traditional Cornish town of Fowey on the mouth of the River Fowey. In an enviable position right on the water’s edge, in the centre of Fowey yet in a very quiet position.

The house has stunning views across the estuary, to the countryside beyond and also to the pretty village of Polruan which is on the opposite side of the estuary and accessed via a sweet passenger ferry.

At low tide you can access the foreshore by the steps from the terrace. At high tide you can access the property via the same steps, from your own (or a hired) boat.

There is a frape at the property (a running mooring) so whether you bring your own boat or hire one during your stay, exploring the harbour and the River Fowey couldn't be easier. We can help you to arrange boat hire (up to 7 people) during your stay, if you wish. Note the running mooring dries at low tide, please check that your own boat is suitable, if you are not using the local hire boat we recommend.

The house, which has recently been tastefully refurbished to a contemporary standard is open plan to the ground floor, with huge bi-folding doors on to a small terrace at the water’s edge. With underfloor heating, wide screen 4K TV, Quooker boiling water tap, Sonos, Nespresso machine and free high speed WiFi (70Mbps), it is equipped to a high standard.

On the first floor, there are 3 bedrooms: a double with fine river/estuary views and en-suite shower room; a twin bedroom, also with fabulous views over the river and out to the estuary, a family bathroom and a third double bedroom with river views from its own small balcony. The bathrooms are newly fitted and tastefully decorated with excellent water pressure to the showers.

A natural deep harbour, Fowey is a haven for yachtsmen and whether you sail yourself or just want to enjoy watching others the house is in a perfect position. There are two sailing clubs in the town who welcome visitors. The Royal Regatta in August, featuring a dramatic display across the estuary by the Red Arrows, is one of Britain’s premier sailing events, it is also a fun-filled week for all the family, sailors and landlubbers alike.

Kayaks can be hired within 50m of the house and there are many boat and fishing trips available from the town quay, a very short stroll away.

Designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Fowey retains a unique, unspoilt charm, with its narrow winding streets, old fashioned pubs and a variety of shopping.

Across the River, the quaint village of Polruan with its regular passenger ferry running back and forth allows you to enjoy even more coastal paths along the stunning Cornish Coastline.

Readymoney Cove, situated by the mouth of the River Fowey is accessible by foot and ideal for families. At high season the beach has a swimming platform, and is also good for rock pooling at low tide.

There are miles of beautiful walks accessible right from the doorstep along with landmarks such as St Catherine’s castle and the Gribbin.

If you do wish to venture out of the town, we are close to some of Cornwall's most stunning gardens including The Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan.

Llanhydrock House, a National Trust property, is close by and has fun bike trails with mountain bikes for hire.

Fowey is also the inspiration to much of Daphne Du Maurier's writing and is home to the annual Du Maurier literary festival (7th – 14th May, 2016).

About Kim Rockingham

My husband and I have been visiting and enjoying Fowey for over 20 years, for the last 15 with our two children.

We have spent the past 2 years refurbishing the house and hope that you will enjoy it as much as we do.

Kim Rockingham purchased this house in 2012

Why Kim Rockingham chose Fowey

For its magical setting on the water's edge with stunning views, quiet yet central location, comfortable and newly refurbished accommodation with so much to do just moments away.

What makes this house unique

2 Albert Place is a special place, situated in the heart of the hustle and bustle of this traditional Cornish town with its unique selection of shops and galleries, cafes, pubs and restaurants all just yards away.

Yet, despite its central location, the property is an oasis of calm on the waters edge and even after many visits, when entering the property for the fist time, the stunning view, whatever the weather, never fails to take our breath away.

Watching our boys sailing with the local club whilst reading the papers on the patio is, for us, a perfect way to relax.

What is wonderful about Fowey is that you can do so much on foot; experience fishing trips; browse in the lovely shops; enjoy the many fabulous walks (coastal and woodland); mess about on the river, be it in a dingy, yacht, kayak or a motor boat, it is quite simply the best way to idle away an afternoon.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had an absolutely lovely time staying here for a week. Even if the weather hadn't been amazing, we would have loved it. The owners have created a beautiful home from home (if only my home looked as lovely!) and the views over the Fowey estuary are stunning. At high tide my 3.5 year old fished for crabs and caught loads (we used frankfurters as bait FYI) and fed the ducks, swans and seagulls that came to visit daily. Perfect entertainment for a kid. The house is very well equipt even having a speaker system which works with iphones etc so you can throw back the doors, open up the back of the house and chill with a drink on the balcony whilst watching the river world go by. I was a little concerned that there is no parking at the house especially with a young child and being pregnant but we got totally used to the walk back from the car park past all the gorgeous shops, cafes and bakeries. We will definitely be back.

Beautiful property, great location,very comfortable

  • 5 of 5

The house is in the perfect location if you want to be in the heart of Fowey and close to all of its amenities whilst being tucked away from the main street. The view across the estuary is fantastic. The house is perfect and has all you need for a very relaxing and comfortable stay with plenty of room for all the family. Although there is no parking space, it is easy to load and unload close to the front door and it is a very easy walk to the main car park which encourages a bit of exercise! I would highly recommend this as a place to stay.

we have stayed all over the world in different villas and apartments but this place has it all.

the weather was not the best but to wake up every morning and see that view was simply the best.

It is so well situated and well appointed great beds and showers.

we rented a boat from Steve on the quay for a week it was great to explore the river.

The bakery right out the door is awesome

any future guests will not be dissapointed

Truly stunning house in beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing week at Albert Place in Fowey. The cottage was brilliantly equipped for us all, the setting was simply superb (could look at that view all day) and the location within the hubbub of Fowey, but set back from the street, was fabulous and so quiet! The adults loved the view, the proximity to great pubs and restaurants and the fabulous use of space, and the children loved the wi-fi, Playstation and crabbing! Would recommend taking the 'boat hire' option, great for pootling up and down the river, stopping off at Polruan and pubs en route. Messing about on the river as such fun! Thank you for letting us share your wonderful cottage for a week during the summer - the weather was fabulous too!

Stunning property in best location!

  • 5 of 5

Perfect central location with water access. The house itself is modern and well equipped, it even had a cake stand for our cream tea and champagne! The view from the downstairs living area is to die for! We hope to return again next year.
