Overview

About the property

Self-contained artist's studio, deep in the rolling Burgundy countryside.

A self-contained annexe to our charming Charollais farmhouse, this studio is bright, light and perfect for a couple, two friends, or a couple with a child. Attractive to walkers, horse-riders (liveries possible), antiques, culture and countryside-lovers alike, it is a great base from which to explore the Charollais region of Burgundy, its vineyards and gastronomy.

Built from locally-sourced and fabricated, organic materials, the studio boasts a range of artworks by a local artist and locally sourced antiques on display.

With a separate entrance from the main house, an equipped kitchenette (two gas hobs, a fridge, microwave oven and dining area), the studio retains its autonomy. Guests can, however, choose to have their meals prepared by ex-TV chef Harriet and brought over to the studio, or to dine on locally-sourced meals at the family table in the main house.

An outdoor seating area and cooking facilities (BBQ, open fire, tagine, etc) are also available, along with the use of a good amateur telescope, to observe the best of the night sky.

Beds can either form one double, or two singles, and a child's bed can be added for free if required. The tiled shower/ WC is clean and modern, and furnished with organic soaps and shampoos. All linens are also provided.

Tucked away in emerald green.

The owners gave us accurate directions to find the house - just as well as it is maybe 500 mtr off the main road. But that's the charm - easy unmade road/track to the door and it's so quiet with a fabulous view over the almost private valley. The Gite itself is clean and tidy and a very good size with small gas cooker, fridge, sink so one can manage drinks and light meals as required; nice, big ensuite with good sized shower (loads of hot water), basin and toilet. Full length windows giving views across the valley and close enough so the horses could say good morning. We slept in very late undisturbed. Excellent breakfast - full English had we asked for it - otherwise fresh local bread, croissants and fresh coffee. The young owners were charming, friendly and helpful - both fluent French and English speakers. It's easily placed for cycling, mountain biking and walking; good restaurant in the village a mile away, fresh food and cafes 4 miles away; easy access to the N79 to the Macon wine district or to historic Cluny and Charolles; close to Beaujolais villages of Julienas, Chenas and Fleurie where high quality wine can be tasted and bought at many vineyards. Do give Sizain a try.
