Luxury Self-Catering Accommodation in Secluded Coastal Location - Pet Friendly.

The Old Stables at Strathairly Cottage offers luxury self-catering accommodation, sleeping 4 adults in a secluded coastal spot just outside the village of Upper Largo, gateway to the East Neuk of Fife. Fabulous enclosed gardens and access to beach.

Situated in a peaceful coastal spot within walking distance of the villages of Lower Largo and Upper Largo and with direct access to Largo Beach across an adjacent field, The Old Stables offers flexible accommodation for up to 4 adults over 2 floors. The cottage is located at the end of a long private drive within approximately 2.5 acres of gardens and is surrounded by arable farmland with no traffic to disturb the tranquillity.

The ground floor accommodation comprises of a large dining kitchen, living room with wood burner and patio doors to private patio and enclosed south facing garden looking towards the coast. In addition there is a utility room with washer and dryer and downstairs toilet on the ground floor. On the upper floor there is a master room with king size bed and en-suite shower room. The second double bedroom can be configured as a twin room or double with king size bed. On the landing there is a family bathroom with over bath shower.

Additionally there is a table tennis table located in the garage adjacent to the cottage where there is also plenty of storage for push bikes.

Outside there is ample parking to the front of the property. To the rear there is a patio area with dining table and large fully enclosed south facing garden laid primarily to lawn – perfect for children and / or dogs – which looks towards the Firth of Forth. From the property there is direct access across the adjacent field to the Fife Coastal Path/Cycle Path and the stunning secluded beach which is a short walk of about 400m from the cottage. From the Fife Coastal path the village of Lower Largo is within easy walking distance and the other villages of the East Neuk can be accessed by foot or on bicycle.

15 minutes from St Andrews and within easy reach of over 20 golf courses means The Old Stables is in a perfect spot for a golfing holiday.

Local restaurants include The Peat Inn, Sangsters, Ostlers Close, The Cellar the 2008 award winning Anstruther Fish & Chip Restaurant. Within walking distance are the Upper Largo Hotel and The Crusoe Hotel and Railway Inn in Lower Largo.

The lovely quaint fishing villages of the East Neuk such as Pittenweem (with its renowned arts festival), Anstruther, St. Monans and Crail, several good beaches such as at Elie and St. Andrews and the vast open spaces of the Lomond Hills are all within easy reach. In terms of visitor attractions, the area is well served by a number of National Trust for Scotland properties including Kellie Castle, Falkland Palace and Hill of Tarvit and there are some excellent restaurants and bars nearby.

Strathairly Cottage is a charming rural property, which dates from the 1740s when it was formerly the dower house to the Strathairly Estate. The lands of Strathairly are understood to have formed a Knights Templar encampment during medieval times. The house was extended to the north in 1911 in the ‘Arts and Crafts’ style to create the distinctive architectural style that exists today with the feature turret and crow stepped elevations.

Please note that the cottage is located at the far end of a 600m gravel track. We regularly drive down it in our Mini but it does have a few potholes (which we repair on a regular basis) so please get in touch if you have any concerns or questions re the track.

The Old Stables Strathairly Cottage is set in a charming and private rural situation, a short distance to the east of Upper Largo and about a five mile drive to the west of Elie. Surrounded by some breaktakingly attractive countryside and with some fine views over Largo Bay and the Forth Estuary to East Lothian and the hills beyond, the house is well positioned for access to both Edinburgh and St. Andrews as well as Fife’s famous East Neuk.

Good local services and facilities are on hand in Lower Largo, Lundin Links, Elie and Leven with a wider offering available in the cosmopolitan St. Andrews and also the bustling Fife county market town of Cupar, both about a fifteen minute drive to the north of the property. In terms of cities Dundee and Perth are within comfortable driving distance, with Edinburgh about thirty nine miles by road to the south.

The Old Stables at Strathairly Cottage provides access to an area of particularly outstanding and varied countryside with hill, wood, river, farmland and lovely coastline all close by. The surrounding landscape provides an ideal environment for an array of wildlife and presents a fine choice for the outdoor enthusiast with walking, cycling, sailing and riding all readily available.

Largo Bay and The Fife Coastal path can be accessed by a pedestrian right of access over the neighbouring field.

It is perhaps golf for which Fife is most famous however with numerous top courses in a comparatively small area including the world renowned Old Course at St. Andrews which plays regular host to the Open championship, with the next scheduled visit being the summer of 2015.

Shooting and fishing may also be taken locally. The lovely quaint fishing villages of the East Neuk such as Pittenweem (with its renowned arts festival), Anstruther, St. Monans and Crail, several good beaches such as at Elie and St. Andrews and the vast open spaces of the Lomond Hills are all within easy reach. Dundee airport operates a range of short haul flights.

Cottage is beautiful, quiet secluded area

Fantastic holiday , cottage has everything you need , warm and cosy , lovely welcome basket on our arrival, lovely touch. The cottage is beautifully decorated one of the best we have stayed in , feather quilts very luxurious! We struggle finding places that will accept 4 dogs , when I emailed to ask , Claire replied saying that they will love it and she was right ! They loved the walks , beach and nature reserve best of both worlds. Dad loved watching out for birds , a family of Wrens visited a couple of times a day , a buzzard flying over , owls hooting during the night and the bats flying around , at home with nature, I don't think I've seen as many rabbits in one spot as I've seen on my walk to the beach. I can honestly say it's one of the best places we have stayed in the 15 years of visiting Scotland . We met Claire and Ian who own the property and they were lovely. We're looking forward to booking again next year . Suzanne Stephen Barry , and the dogs Penny Ellie Meg Kira .

peaceful, well equipped cosy cottage

We were most impressed with how well equipped the cottage was, everything we could possibly need. Beds were fantastically comfortable. A short walk to the beach which the dogs loved and so very quiet. we'd be happy to return.

Quiet, secret retreat!

The Old Stable is a fantastic cottage, quiet home from home. Everything you need to cook a roast dinner including Yorkshire Pudding! We were with friends and our collection of dogs (3) the doors to the garden could be left open allowing them to wander in and out.

The bedrooms are comfortable with down quilts and crisp bedding, the welcome pack is s lovely thought. The beach is a short walk away and various fishing villages up the coast. There are plenty of routes to walk/ run depending on your preference.

We hope to return next year.

Fantastic cottage and location. Very relaxing stay, lovely walk to the beach.

Only one minor criticism is the smell of dog downstairs, but realise it is a dog friendly cottage. Enjoyed wildlife spotting along the track. Friendly welcome, nice welcome treats, lovely owners. Kids loved it, would definitely consider coming again.

Beautiful - even better than it appears in the photos!

This was our second visit there and we've already booked for next year! That says it all - it is perfect. Beautiful location, spotlessly clean and totally dog-proofed garden. But it's not city - I don't know where that came from on the review and it won't go away! It's miles from anywhere - very quiet - but just a short drive to shops etc.

Everything you could want from a holiday home on a fantastic location

Beautiful cottage in a stunning location and was really well presented. Good base to explore the Fife coast and easy access in to Edinburgh. Regardless of weather, lots to see and do and absolutely beautiful when the sun comes out. Good access to coastal path and many fantastic walks within easy reach.
