About this property

Stone villa, heated pool, AC, walk to town

Just outside the historic village of Saint Remy de Provence, you will find our secluded gem. With four bedrooms and 3 1/2 baths, and covering a roomy 210 square meters (2,260 sq. ft.), this is an authentic yet modernized Provencal villa. Central air conditioning keeps the house at an ideal temperature no matter the outside heat. Its French owners, who have lived in many countries, have applied international standards of comfort, taste, and amenities, all chosen to enhance your enjoyment of the renowned Provencal lifestyle. The house is quiet, functional, and well laid out, with living quarters on one side and bedrooms to the other. The house is cooled with an eco-friendly air-conditioning system taking full advantage of cooler nights (the house is also cooled during the day but needs all windows and doors closed).

The master bedroom features its own en-suite bath. Awaiting you outside are a child-safe, very private pool, a terrace, large (1500 sq. meter) landscaped grounds, and ample space for lounging or entertaining, all screened by hedges, pines, flowering laurels and lavender, with timeless olive groves and vineyards nearby. The location, bordering the Alpilles Parc Reserve, is ideal for exploring Provence.
Lovely Saint Remy is an easy stroll away. Hiking and biking trails originate a few hundred meters from the house. The next “street” over is an actual Roman road, the Via Domitia, which leads to the ancient site of Glanum less than three km. distant. Day trips might include many close-by beauty spots on the Mediterranean and the Rhone, and historic Provencal towns such as Arles and Avignon.

Entertaining

Every aspect of Mas Aurelia has been designed for playing host in the classic Provencal manner. The house sleeps nine people very comfortably, and can just as comfortably entertain a dozen or more during the day. Living room, dining room and eat-in kitchen are open, airy and light. A large and expandable teak table and 10 chairs can be set on the terrace under the shade of the house or under the trees in the yard. A new, large Weber barbecue awaits your grilling talents. The pool makes an especially wonderful display at night: turn on the pool lights, and just a few inside lamps, and enjoy brilliant star-lit skies framed by the surrounding pines.

The house is equipped with cable TV in English (BBC, CNN), local phone and internet (Wifi). In the Kitchen, you will find a gas stove, an oven, a microwave, a toaster, a kettle, a coffee machine, a large refrigerator and freezer with ice dispenser and a dishwasher. All the utensils and cookware needed to cook a proper French meal if you so desire.

THE MASTER BEDROOM The large (42 sq. meter) master suite, with south and west exposures, includes a Queen bed on the main level, and a single bed on the mezzanine, along with an en-suite bath (shower, sink, toilet) and two closets. A twin bed is available on the mezzanine.

THE OLIVE TREE BEDROOM This large (20 sq. meter) room is decorated in green and sand tones, giving it a very relaxing and comfy feeling. The room also has two closets.

THE WHITE BULL BEDROOM A large white-paper bull’s head on a deep blue wall sets this room’s theme and character. A smaller (10 sq. meter) space that holds two single beds and a single closet, the bedroom has views of the pool and backyard and is close to the Olive Tree Bedroom.

THE MAZET BEDROOM (Guest House) Set apart from the main villa, this “mazet” or guest house is ideal for those seeking a bit of independence and quiet. Close by the pool, it is a large (23 sq. meter) space with its own full bath, hot water heater, and ceiling fan, along with a Queen bed and two closets.

The Olive Tree and White Bull bedrooms share a full bathroom with a tub and coarse marble tiling throughout.

There is another independent toilet with a sink.

Fabulous Villa for a family holiday
We had such a good time in this beautiful place! The size of the villa is ample for privacy for a large group. We took our three grown-up sons and partners and it was perfect. Very comfortable accommodation with heaps of kitchen equipment and crockery plus a great BBQ, lovely pool area, private gardens with lots of room for parking. A 30 minute stroll into St Remy centre can be done along the canals or roads and it’s well worth the walk to enjoy the beautiful town. Thoroughly recommend a stay here.

Lovely House - "Aircon" not quite as expected!
We had a lovely stay at this property, it's well equipped and well located in a lovely part of Provence. We had a particularly hot spell during our stay, and the advertised "Aircon" system was woefully inadequate. (I believe the system is actually more of a fresh air circulation system than a true aircon system, which probably explains why it couldn't cope with the conditions). Communications with both the owner and the concierge service were excellent.

Superb!
Start to finish we had a wonderful time in this superb villa. Blessed with excellent weather we spent so much time in and around the pool or enjoying al fresco dining late into the evening. Martin was incredibly communicative and helpful as was everyone connected, all smiles and so welcoming. St Remy is just a short walk and a real gem of a place whether night or Wednesday Market or just anytime of the day. Glanum roman ruins are just a short walk as is the more impressive "Van Gogh" asylum. Les Baux is a few minutes by car and well worth the effort of leaving the villa. Saddest moment was in leaving but will not hesitate to return. Thank you everyone involved.

A lovely, big, house, with pool, as described
The description on HomeAway was absolutely fair. The owners greeted us very nicely on arrival, and kept in touch by text message. We stayed for a multi-generational week, with six adults, two children aged eight and four, and a twelve-month old baby. It was perfectly suitable for this number, as expected. The kitchen was well-equipped. Family meals on the patio, including barbecues, were delightful, including eating ripe grapes off the overhanging vines. There is a big supermarket ten minutes away by car. We believe it sometimes has short opening hours on Sunday. The living room was a grand space, and well-equipped with, sofas, high and low tables, and, for example, a blue-tooth-enabled speaker system. The bedrooms were pleasant, and bathrooms good, and, again, well-equipped. The furnishings and decorations were stylish and, with a very few adjustments, eminently child-friendly, and baby-friendly. The pool, with its recliners, was a great hit. Otherwise there is not much garden, as is clear on the website. I have given four stars for cleanliness primarily because the patio, where we ate every evening, inevitably had food dropped on it (Baby!), attracting creatures, and there was no easy way to clean it. Secondarily we had a fair number of little ants in the master bedroom/bathroom . We tackled them with the supplied killer spray, but Martin, or the concierge Isabelle (a pleasant lady) should try to eliminate them entirely - not easy, we appreciate. As for four stars for ‘Location and Neighbourhood’, this is simply a reflection of the correctly advertised position of the property, which is suburban, and some distance from a boulangerie, cafe, restaurant, ice-cream shop, and so on. Concerning the overall four stars, it was hot (34 degrees) though not as severe a heat-wave as will unfortunately increasingly be common, and while the air-conditioning in the main building was fine, that in the Mazet annex was not, even with the ceiling fan, and the door and shutters closed during the day; two adults and a baby were not quite comfortable. It is a pity, but I suggest that a mobile air-conditioning unit is necessary in there.

Lovely stay in Provence
Perfect stay in a most convenient location. House is large, well laid out, well equipped and just a short 15 minute walk from the Saint Rémy center. The garden and pool are very private and secluded, skinny dipping allowed here! The Weber barbecue was a staple of our stay and allowed us to take full advantage of the large outdoor table. The rosé bottles as welcome presents were a nice touch. Loved our stay. We'll do it again I'm sure. ;-)

Host profile image
We are two executives who, in between our travelling lifestyles, come to take refuge in this haven of peace - the cradle of our family.

Why they chose this property

Provence's endless charm, close to St Remy without the noise.

What makes this property unique

Apart from the closeness of the village, there are the GR paths which begin just a few metres away from the house. What we like most is the tranquil, private aspect of the garden in a functional, comfortable house.
