Quirky and interesting little cottage

  • 5 of 5

This having been our first visit to Canterbury my husband and I travelled down through the night by train on the Caledonian Sleeper, so arrived in London at approx. half past seven in the morning. We made our way to St Pancras for our connection to Canterbury arriving in Canterbury at around 11.00 am at Canterbury West, it was then just a short walk to the main shopping thoroughfare where we stopped off for some Breakfast. Our cottage was in Best lane which is in a wee lane in the centre of all the bustle . The owner very kindly let us in at about 12.30 and greeted us at the door, he explained where things were and kindly provided tea, coffee, and biscuits as a welcome , there was also fresh flowers in vases which was a extra nice touch , recommendations for a restaurant just down from the cottage and lots of leaflets and maps on Canterbury and the surrounding area.

cottage was clean and had everything we needed, ie washing machine , iron, ironing board ect, also a huge library of books which was both a delight and an education . The street was noisy but the owner had warned us about that , and too be honest we didn't find it too bad , as after being out all day we pretty much slept through it .

The pub next door does lovely food and staff were very friendly. We only cooked breakfast as we ate out most days . We had always wanted to stay in a cottage and this ticked all the boxes for us. Canterbury we absolutely loved and will most certainly be back . It's very central for the coast and Whitstable in particular is a delight . We would use Sykes cottages again as everything was very efficient from booking right through to sending out our key pick up information . Cottage is not suitable for the elderly or infirm or very young children, because of the winding staircase and bathroom is located on the ground floor. Loads of great food to be eaten , the Black Griffen to a fantastic plough mans lunch, the thomas becket next door do a great sunday lunch, and if real ale is your thing then seek out the Thomas Tallis ale house which is fab. Take a walk round the river stoar feed the ducks and watch the fish . The Dolphin has a great beer garden and the Parrot also has a beautiful beer garden as well as fantastic food though I would book first as it's extremely popular. Bus station is just up the road from the cottage , numerous shops and of course the very beautiful cathedral. A day trip into London is very easy which we did.would recommend.

Situación ideal

  • 4 of 5
