About this property

Tranquil and private 3 bedroom villa in unspoilt village in Crete.

As featured on TV, A Place in the Sun- Winter Sun, 2016!
A beautifully designed modern villa with private pool and gardens and spectacular views of the White Mountains.
Peacefully positioned in a quiet lane in Stylos, a traditional and pretty Cretan village, just 35 minutes from Chania airport and ten minutes drive from lovely beaches.
The villa is architect-designed to high specifications and is equipped with everything needed for a peaceful and tranquil holiday at any time of year.
This three-bedroomed villa has air-conditioning throughout and also features underfloor cooling (and underfloor heating for the cooler months).
Downstairs there is an open-plan lounge/dining area with double patio doors opening to a shady veranda overlooking the pool and gardens. There is a TV and DVD player, with an android box for viewing UK TV and free wi-fi.
The kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, oven, ceramic hob, microwave, American-style fridge/freezer and has double doors to the barbecue area. It leads to a utility room with washing machine.
Also downstairs there is a double bedroom, easy to access for those who have difficulty managing the stairs, and a bathroom with walk-in shower, a toilet and wash basin.
Upstairs there is a bedroom featuring a kingsized bed and en-suite shower room with toilet and wash basin. This bedroom has a balcony with views to the surrounding countryside and the White Mountains.
Also upstairs there is a twin bedroom with balcony and views to the surrounding countryside.
The landing gives access to the roof terrace, which is the perfect place to relax in the evenings as the sun sets. The views to the mountains and countryside change according to the weather, season and time of day but are always superb. The terrace is surrounded partly by railings and partly by reinforced glass, to make the most of the view while providing safety.
Outside, the gardens are very private with a 100-year-old stone wall bordering the lawns, jasmine and flower beds, and over thirty orange trees which produce fruit for much of the year, perfect for producing fresh juice every morning for breakfast!
The pool is fenced with railings for safety when youngsters are staying, and has atmospheric lighting for those long evenings sitting outside.
Villa Maria is situated in a quiet lane just an easy two minute stroll from the village with its giant plane trees bordering the road, traditional tavernas and friendly mini-markets with a good supply of basic essentials. There is an ancient Byzantine church, plus a lovely newer one; also the village lies at one end of the Diktamos gorge which is popular with walkers.
Ten minutes drive away you will find the popular (but not too touristy) beachside town of Kalyves. Here you will find many beach side bars, tavernas, a doctor, bank, supermarket etc.
Car hire is an excellent idea, not least because Crete has a plethora of wonderful sights including so many ancient archeological treasures. Fascinating ancient Aptera is only 6 Km away.
COVID-19 secure cleaning procedure:
We look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful villa and want to reassure you that we are implementing all COVID-19 measures to ensure your stay with us is comfortable and pleasant. In partnership with our experienced housekeepers, Iain and Barbara, we are introducing an enhanced cleaning regime based on the latest advice, which will build on our existing rigorous standards. We've introduced new cleaning products to disinfect as well as clean and will be taking extra care of high touch surface areas. We will also ensure the cleanliness of upholstery. As always, a professional laundry will wash our bed linen and towels to the highest standards. As the situation is constantly changing, additional information will also be forwarded to you before your trip, based on the latest guidance.
To make cleaning easier and more effective during the coronavirus pandemic some non-essential items have been removed for now- for example scatter cushions, guide books, reading material, children's toys, some kitchen equipment that is not normally needed (eg pizza cutter, potato ricer, duplicate items).

Fabulous villa, quiet Cretan village
We had a wonderful holiday in Stylos. The villa has everything you need and more. Excellent outside space and our kids loved the pool. The kitchen is very well equipped and the air con works well through the villa. The closest beach is 10 mins away in Kalyves and is very protected. We really enjoyed the beautifully clear sea and as long as you order a coffee or drink you can use the sun loungers provided by the beach tavernas. Two minutes walk from the villa is the best taverna we’ve found in Crete - Three and the cook. You have to walk though the front and there is a cute garden in the back. Delicious food and excellent service. We couldn’t believe the value for money. This is our fourth trip to Crete and it didn’t disappoint. Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

Fantastic stay in Stilos
We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely villa. The Villa was very clean and well equipped. Barbara and Ian were very responsive to any queries. We loved the location as we were able to walk into the village for meals and then just a short drive away were the more touristy beach resorts. We would highly recommend-thank you for our wonderful stay!

The villa made our holiday perfect!
Most of our holiday stays are villas and this one was at the top of our list. Mainly because it provided us with authentic Cretan experience but also had everything you needed in a villa, in a way it replaced our home for two weeks (wifi, kitchen well equipped, veranda and garden for relaxation). The pool is of good size and well-kept. The garden is private and there are so many oranges! that can feed a whole village! You can walk into the village for a very nice meal from local produce. The local shop owner sells his own wine as well There are a few attractions to visit just a few minutes’ drive from the villa. Chania (20 mins drive form villa) is very nice town with local farmers’ food markets. I must say that the owners are easy to contact as well as the local contacts in the village. However, we did not need anything Lots of information collected by owners which places to visit (especially the two famous pink beaches).

About the host

Host profile image
I am a retired veterinary surgeon living in Wirral, England. My family love visiting Crete and go there whenever we can for relaxation in the wonderful climate, surrounded by fascinating scenery and archeological sites, and welcomed by the ever friendly, helpful Cretan people.

Why they chose this property

The villa is modern, clean and comfortable. The gardens are secluded and private, fully enclosed and containing lawns, over 30 orange trees, and a swimming pool with railings around it for safety when small children are staying.
The modern kitchen is well equipped.

What makes this property unique

It is unusual to find a beautiful villa to rent in a proper Crete village which is not spoilt by tourism, although welcoming to visitors. The Dorling Kindersley "10 best" guide to Crete lists Stylos as one of the top places to see "real Crete".
