In the autumn it is quieter but the weather can be exceptionally nice with warm days and cool evenings, offering opportunities for outdoor activity during the day and roasting chestnuts over the fire in the evening. In winter the house is close enough to act as a base for skiing with Cauterets just over an hour away and other skiing options nearby. About Lynne Wigmore

Professional couple living in Edinburgh

Lynne Wigmore purchased this farmhouse in 2015

Why Lynne Wigmore chose Hautes-Pyrenees

We bought this property in 2015 after an extensive search. We had holidayed in the area before and loved the terroir, the food, wine and the beautiful countryside. The proximity to the Pyrennees was a draw too offering walking and climbing in the summer and skiing in the winter. The area offers an experience of authentic French cuisine and culture. We fell in love with the house which has many period features and is excellently appointed with lovely outdoor areas and of course a fantastic pool!

What makes this farmhouse unique

This enchanting 18th century traditional french house offers a tranquil environment in the heart of Gascony. It offers a very private space with extensive garden and well positioned pool and terraces. Enjoy the birdsong in the morning and beautiful views to Castelnau Rivierre en Basse as you enjoy a sundowner in the garden.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We stayed in this beautiful napoleonic farmhouse as a last minute autumnal break in the school holiday mid term. The house is beautifully appointed, private and secluded spot, gorgeous open countryside, on the edge of a very quaint village (Heres). Amenities such as boulangerie, patisserie, artisan butcher and well equipped Intermarche are within 5km in nearby Pleasance. Weather was great and we made good use of the bikes, badminton, Petanque but sadly not the beautiful pool- maybe in the summer. This house was great for our family of 5 but it would also be a fantastic house for 2 families, lots of space, great kitchen and we loved the big outdoor eating area. Look forward to coming back next year perhaps in the summer when its warmer. We love Gascony and the pace of life, this is a little gem of a find.

A magnificent French retreat

  • 5 of 5

Le Pont Perdu is elegant, stately and beautifully appointed. We spent a wonderful week in this handsome farmhouse as a group of three couples with two small children.

We visited in late September when the days were still warm enough to enjoy the beautiful pool, eat figs fresh off the tree and lunch under the barn roof. Nights were cool enough to justify a fire in the huge cast iron grate in the enormous living room or to sit out in a jumper and watch the bats against the milky way.

We bought delicious wonky tomatoes and purple peppers in the local market and washed them down with gold-medal winning 4 Euro Madiran wines. We got our share of culture in the Auch cathedral and were clambered all over by enthusiastic marmots at the Parc Animalier des Pyrénées.

The house had everything we needed and provided a beautiful, grand backdrop to each day.

I’m not entirely sure why we came home …

A refined property of vast proportion with pool, set in rural Gascony. Nothing is lacking.

From the moment you enter the drive and glimpse the house with pool set in front, the wow factor kicks in. This only increases entering the house and exploring the massive rooms, both up stairs and down.

Everything is tastefully done, clean, and obviously has been thought about.

It's just wow!

The kitchen is very well appointed and you guessed it. Big.

Two reception rooms give more than ample space for two families, although we used only one, still having plenty of room.

Bathrooms are good, fridge and freezer huge.

Two master bedrooms are lovely, although one has a rather attractive but short old bed that proved somewhat of a grumble to the couple in that room.

Plenty of other rooms for the children and teens. All good.

The pool was brilliant, pool furniture and inflatables an excellent addition.

Table tennis, Badminton and Boules all good ideas.

An extra eating area under a barn roof near the kitchen proved popular.

Communications by the owner were excellent.

All in all, superb.
