About the property

Villa (sleeps 6-8) and cottage (sleeps 2), set in private vineyard and new pool

Farmhouse and cottage with newly installed Infinity pool (2014). Near to the beach (5 mins). Set in 3 acres of garden and vineyard (producing Vinho Verde, the regional wine).

Just inland from the local fishing town of Vila Praia de Ancora, a series of cobbled lanes wind their way to the villa, which has far-reaching views across a picturesque rural landscape and towards the coast. There is a recently installed infinity pool (10m by 4.5m) for sole use of guests (May-Sept). There is a patio area under the vines, with BBQ area.

The MAIN HOUSE (sleeps 6/8), is a traditional modernized farmhouse, with the accommodation on the first floor - the ground floor provides a laundry room and the traditional wine cellar. Well equipped dining kitchen with views to the garden and pool with patio doors and balcony. There is seating for up to 10 guests. The lounge has outstanding views to the garden and has TV, dvd player and wii. There are board games and books. The main house has 3 bedrooms: 1 king, 1 double (en-suite), a bunk bed room. There is also a sofa bed in the lounge. The house bathroom has a freestanding shower and bath.

The DETACHED COTTAGE (sleeps 2) has a kitchen, a room with double bed and sofa and en-suite shower room.

Hot water is powered by an eco-friendly system and central heating is available.

FOR USE BY GUESTS (no extra charge):

There is a travel cot, high chair, pushchair, and toddler toilet seat. For surfing at the local beaches, there are wet suits (children and adult sizes), a boogy board, and a Malibu surfboard for use by guests. For cycling we have adult and child bicycles for guests to use - additional bicycles are available to hire at the local beach.

There is a Bluray DVD player with a a selection of English speaking adult and children's DVDs, a Wii (with a selection of Wii games), and a CD Player, with IPOD docking station. The house also has unlimited wifi.

GARDEN: The property has 3 acres of mature gardens and vines. There are numerous fruit trees including orange, lemon chestnuts, walnut, apples...There is a newly installed infinity pool for sole use of guests (available from May to September). Guests can explore the gardens; relax on the patio area under the vines providing BBQ area with table and chairs. The farmhouse has a spacious cobbled courtyard.

The Ancora river is less than 5 minutes walk, with a 'secret swimming spot' for the locals in the summer providing crystal clear waters which is great for swimming. In the autumn guests are more than welcome to help with the grape harvest/winemaking.

Local area and getting there: The nearest beaches are less than five minute drive away in Vila Praia de Ancora, where a wide range of shops, restaurants, and a new daily fresh fish market can also be found.It is a lovely area, not yet spoilt by tourism and typically Portuguese. It has amazing beaches - sometimes we are the only ones on! In summer there are life guards on all the local beaches, hire a beach hut, canoe down the river or have a surf lesson from one of the many surf schools.

Eating and drinking out is very reasonable - expect to pay less than 1 euro for a bottle of beer or glass of port, and 70 cents for a coffee. Menu of the day can be as little as 5 euros, which is usually a choice of meat or fish, with either a soft drink, beer or wine (sometimes this includes soup, pudding and coffee!).

We live in England with our 3 children (11, 9 and 6 years) and Kipper the dog. We have owned the house since 2006 and as such over the years have lots of extras for guests to use free of charage - from baby cots through to bikes of all sizes and surf boards and wet suits.

I just wanted to let you know we had a fantastic time in Portugal, the house was really comfortable and well equipped, the garden and terrace were very relaxing and the location was charming and very convenient. Our only problem was trying to fit everything in that we wanted to do. As the weather was so warm we spent a lot of time visiting different beaches. Thank you for the use of the house and introducing us to that part of Portugal it was great, I'm sure we will want to go back.

what a great place to stay!

The house is very well equipped, also for our children. It’s clean and cozy. We felt very welcome. The garden is large and beautiful with a nice swimming pool. We had a great time!

Toller Pool, ruhige Lage, gemütliches Haus

Wir ( Paar mir Hund) haben zwei sehr schöne Wochen Ende September in dem Ferienhaus verbracht.

Das Haus liegt oben auf dem Berg und wird über kleine Kopfsteinpflaster-Strassen erreicht.Alles sehr ursprünglich und beschaulich.

Das Haus war sauber und gemütlich eingerichtet. Die Betten und die Sofas sind bequem und der Pool ist sehr schön angelegt und gepflegt. Auch die Küche ist wirklich gut ausgestattet, so dass das Kochen eine Freude war.

Der versprochene fußläufig zu erreichende Bäcker scheint in der Nebensaison allerdings nicht vorhanden. Brötchen bekommt man also dann erst unten im Supermarkt nach ca. 10 min mit dem Rad oder dem Auto. Aber dafür hat man dann halt die ruhige Lage.

Einzige Punkte, die für das Geld noch etwas besser sein könnten, wären Mückennetze an den Fenstern- damit man Lüften kann ohne die ganze Nacht gestochen zu werden,sowie vielleicht ein, zwei Beschreibungen für Wanderungen direkt vom Haus und der Zustand der Fahrräder. Bei meinem hat sich nämlich das Schutzblech gelöst und ist mir in die Reifen gerutscht, so dass ich leider gestürzt bin.

Das Fahrräder vor Ort waren, fanden wir allerdings toll....generell hätten wir gerne 4 dreitviertel Sterne geben oder 9 von 10..aber das bietet das Bewertungsportal ja leider nicht....alles in allem ein schönes Haus und wir würden auch wieder kommen!

Less than 5 minutes drive to beautiful clean and quiet beaches. There are a numerous Surf schools at the local beach. House has surf board for guests to use (free).

Use the bikes at the house to explore the local area.

Visit the beautiful Santa Luzia Chrurch on the hill overlooking Viana Do Castelo, which has view of the Atlantic coast - described as the one of the best views in the world by National Geographic.

Fabulous markets at Vila Nova de Cerveira, Viana Do Castelo and Caminha.

Wonderful countryside for walking (Sunflower Northern Portugal book has numerous walks within easy driving distance).

Visit the Peneda-Geres National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty, where you may spot the endangered royal eagle or catch a glimpse of an otter.

Follow the Vinho Verde wine trail along the banks of the Minho Valley which passes between undulating hills covered with the vines which produce the lightly sparkling and very tasty wine of the region.

Golf: There is a golf course in Ponta de Lima, approx 25 minutes drive.
