Dating from Saxon times, the village is steeped in history with the remains of a Roman farm at nearby Roystone Grange. There is plenty to do in the local area, such as walking the Manifold Trail which follows the old Leek to Manifold light railway. There is also the award winning village of Alstonefield to visit and within seven miles are great facilities for horse riding, cycling, sailing and golfing. Alton Towers is also close by, as are Chatsworth House, Kedleston and Sudbury Halls.
