Description

Le Tilleul

Le Tilleul is an extremely old house on the edge of a medieval village, just metres from the castle walls at Larressingle. There are 3 bedrooms, sleeping 8 in total (2+2+4), a lounge and a kitchen-diner. Large garden with a shared pool

About the property

Old stone cottage heated pool

In the middle of a romantic, medieval village just 50 metres from the 12th century fortified village, Le Tilleul provides spacious and traditional accommodation for up to 8. The house can be combined with the 2 bedroom house next door (Le Figuier) allowing up to 12 people in five bedrooms.

We offer a 20% discount on second and additional weeks booked off-season.

The 8m x 4m courtyard heated pool becomes the focus of attention during the summer months and there are plenty of pool toys for all ages to enjoy. The pool is shared with the guests in one other house on the other side of the courtyard.

A fully enclosed private garden has a grassy area for children to run around in, and a paved terrace area, with barbecue equipment, for those al-fresco meals.

Le Tilleul : Full of charm and original character, this spacious farmhouse has thick stone walls and beamed ceilings in all rooms, with terracotta-tiled floors downstairs, while upstairs rooms boast the original exposed wood floors. The rustic kitchen comfortably seats 8, and features a wood-burning stove in the stone fireplace. The kitchen is fully equipped, and includes dishwasher, microwave and large fridge/freezer. A separate spacious living room with TV/DVD overlooks the pool with a range of DVDs suitable for all ages. Two bookcases house local maps and guides, holiday reading and board games for all the family. Upstairs the flexible accommodation offers a master bedroom, bathroom and the over-sized attic bedroom is great for children or adults alike. Downstairs, a double bedroom and shower-room are particularly suitable for those who may find stairs difficult. The spacious and flexible accommodation make the cottage equally suitable for a large family, 3 generations or 2 families sharing. However, that bedroom is not accessible for wheelchair use.

In le Figuier : exposed stone walls and beamed ceilings throughout, as well as ceramic-tiled floors softened with rugs. Spacious, airy attic studio bedroom with vaulted ceiling has an extra-large wrought iron double bed and a single bed, a cosy sitting area with TV/DVD player and wood burner stove set in ancient stone fireplace. Downstairs the cosy dining kitchen with new gas hob & electric fan oven is fully equipped for up to 4 people, and includes a dishwasher. Also on the ground floor is the second bedroom with twin beds and a large shower-room/WC. A washing machine is located in the adjacent garage. French windows on either side of kitchen lead to sunny patio with welcome shade provided by vine-covered pergola, a superb brick-built BBQ & garden beyond, or to the central courtyard with swimming pool. Le Figuier has been upgraded for winter lets with the latest in ceiling insulation, and a new heater in the main studio room in addition to the wood-burner.

About Macha

Paris and Larressingle, a balanced way of living.

Macha purchased this house in 2015

Why Macha chose Larressingle

It's difficult to describe the tranquility in this part of the word, where time seems to stand still among ancient terraces of Armagnac vineyards, sylvan copses and patchwork fields of sunflowers and wheat. Yet there is also a buzzing musical and cultural scene with events held in most villages most weeks through the summer, including open-air events in Larressingle village and across the area. If you like your music, Jazz in Marciac (60km south) in July & August is a major national event (this year Buena Vista Social Club, Marcus Miller, Chick Corea, Melody Gardot headlining) [http://www.jazzinmarciac.com/] and Tempo-Latino at Vic-Fezensac (23km south) has a more rustic feel in late July (with Ernesto Tito Puentes headlining in 2015) [http://www.tempo-latino.com/]. There are also regular music events on at the various cathedrals and abbeys at Condom, La Romieu and Valence-sur-Baise, just a very short drive away. Then when the urge to go shopping takes over, there is a market somewhere nearby most days of the week. There is a partial timetable at this website: http://www.brouquere.com/gers/event_calendar_en.htm but the tourist offices in most towns will have more information nearer the time. In Gascony, original home of d'Artagnan, it's either all go......or all chill out. You choose!”

What makes this house unique

Among the most beautiful villages in France <a href="http://www.les-plus-beaux-villages-de-france.org/fr/larressingle-0" target="_blank" id="linkme">Larressingle</a>

Larressingle seduced me as soon as I arrived in Gascony. But I first stayed near Eauze, then in Condom. Finally with Le Tilleul and Le Figuier, their terraces, their stone walls, their old beams, it was love at first sight.

A wonderful home in France

  • 5 of 5

Le Tilleul, is a charming house, on entering we felt it welcomed us. Although it is very old it is well equipped with everything you need for a wonderful stay in the little village of Larressingle. It is excellently positioned for visiting the many lovely villages, markets, vineyards and of course Armanac. There is a very comprehensive folder of information both about the house and tourist information. So you can make yourselves immediately at HOME. It lived up to its description perfectly and we would have no hesitation in recommending it to mature couples or families. There is also plenty of space both indoors and out.

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure to have great travellers such as you at Le Tilleul. The house is now gettîing ready for summertime : swimming pool and lawn chairs...And in the villages around its now time for night markets, brocantes and fairs. We try to share our love of this part of France through a welcoming home.

12th Century fortified village is regularly voted as one of the 100 Most Picturesque Villages in France, with it's partially ruined walls, medieval stone houses and colourful gardens. Nearby, many kilometres of quiet country lanes and footpaths provide peaceful pathways for exploring on foot, bike or horseback. Forests, hills, fields of vines and sunflowers complete the picture of rural Gascony!
