About the property

4 bedroom 3 bathroom gite with pool. Rural French charm meets English cool.

Le Chat de Pierre is a superior quality gite set among vineyards and plum orchards in the beautiful Lot-et-Garonne. www.lechatdepierre.com.

The house and pool are all yours during your stay - no shared facilities - so you can just chill in your home away from home without interruption from other guests or owners.

Cool, quirky and well thought-out, the generous accommodation sleeps 8 across 4 flexible bedrooms (twins or doubles). 3 bathrooms designed with a touch of the boutique hotel make sure there are no queues for the showers.

It may be hard to tear yourself away from the pool, the sunbathing/outdoor dining deck, the stone-built BBQ, the views across open countryside but when you do you'll find the house to be exceptionally well kitted-out with wifi, a large salon where everyone can kick back and listen to their own music thanks to the blue tooth speaker or organise table football or table tennis tournaments. There's a more intimate TV room with Freesat and DVD player and comfy leather sofas, and a remarkably well equipped kitchen-diner where 8 can comfortably sit around the huge dining table.

There are family board games, assorted films on DVD, table football and table tennis along with boules, giant jenga, swingball and an interesting library to keep you entertained.

A feature polished wood staircase accesses the three first floor bedrooms and house bathroom via a minstrels' gallery.

The bedrooms have a touch of boutique hotel about them, the master bedroom has a large ensuite shower room, the house bathroom boasts a bath with shower and there's a ground floor shower room too. All the showers are powerful and there's plenty of hot water.

The nearby village of Saint Sernin offers a bar, tabac/general store, tennis courts and a small weekly market. Duras is a short drive away and has a large and vibrant weekly market, wonderful night markets in the summer months and shops, bars and restaurants and of course the lovely Chateau.

The countryside is stunning with vineyards, plum orchards and sunflower fields and is dotted with intriguing bastide towns waiting to be explored. Just 40 minutes away is the medieval city of Bergerac and a little beyond that UNESCO world heritage site Saint-Emilion makes a fabulous day out for wine lovers and history enthusiasts.

If you love the active outdoors scene there are tennis courts in Saint Sernin and bicycle hire available in Duras and activities from kayaking, paintballing, golf and even hot air ballooning are in the area.

The food and wine is of course sublime and your nearest vineyard is across the road where our neighbours will be delighted to show you round, let you sample the wines and sell you their produce by the bottle or the case.

About Charles Peace

From North Yorkshire to Lot-et-Garonne, Charly and Carolynn bought a house crying out for some TLC in 2014. A sympathetic refurbishment complete, they are proud and excited to offer this very special place to groups of friends and families looking for somewhere beautiful to spend their holidays.

Why Charles Peace chose Saint-Sernin

We love to hear what our guests have discovered about this lovely area. Each visitor finds something unique for them. For us, a perfect day would be a trip to one of the nearby markets to sample and buy delicious fresh local produce, perhaps a prix fixe lunch at one of the many family-run restaurants in the area, followed by a lazy afternoon round the pool and then an evening walk through the vines with the dog where we are almost certain to see deer, hares and other wildlife and amazing sunsets which give way to the most beautiful starry nights.

What makes this house unique

Le Chat de Pierre is a very special place. The house is spacious and cool when the temperatures rise and is furnished with an eclectic mix of modern and vintage pieces with a twist on traditional French styling. The accent is on comfort and good design - it's your home away from home. Guests have commented on the 'boutique hotel' touches - lovely crisp white bedding, top quality beds - including an emperor sized four-poster in the master bedroom. The hosts have tried to provide everything you could possibly need.

The decked terrace makes for lovely al fresco dining with views across the valley. Deer frequently visit the field at the bottom of the garden.

Lying by the pool, listening to birdsong and crickets, it's hard to summon up the will to move away but when the surrounding area offers so much history, culture, sport, exploring, shopping, dining and wine tasting you may just need to book another week.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I have had the most wonderful Hen week, just what the doctor ordered. A lovely gite in a perfect little town. The locals are so friendly and we'd recommend visits to both Eymet and Duras. Rose's tea room in Eymet is fantastic! Lovely to meet Maureen too, lovely lady. Definitely want to come back with my new husband. Thank you so much!

Lovely home in a very picturesque area with lots to see & do

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed a fabulous week at this extremely well equipped gite. The house had everything we could have wanted & more. No need to leave the house as even wine across the road but if you do venture out there are lots of pretty towns & villages to see. The owners were very informative and overall it was a wonderful week enjoyed by all ages ranging from 15yrs to 75yrs

A fantastic property, with everything you could want for a great holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had a brilliant holiday in this property. It has excellent facilities for children, with stair gates and a fenced off pool with a pool alarm. The kitchen has all you could need, the bedrooms are lovely (especially the master room with an emperor bed and en suite), and the living area is stocked with books, games, dvds, a football table and table tennis. The pool area is great too.

The house is fairly isolated but just a short drive to Duras which has shops and a great night market.

We love Le Chat so much that we have already booked again for next year.

  • 5 of 5

Le Chat truly is home from home - absolutely all mod cons and comforts, every detail covered thoughtfully and with style. The location is perfect - peace and quiet, tranquil views, yet very close to the lovely town of Duras where there are bars and restaurants, good supermarket and the beautiful chateau itself. There is plenty to do in the area to suit all ages and interests - visit the nearby bastide towns and explore their historic streets, cycle down the canal midi from Agen over the awesome viaduct which spans the river Garonne, canoe on the Dordogne from Limeuil, visit Saint Emillion and taste the wines, visit the morning street markets in all the little towns nearby, the night markets which offer street food, live music and a chance to meet the locals or fellow travellers,or, just chill out and soak up the sun by the pool back at Le Chat. We have now visited twice and have already booked to return next year as we love it so much and are still finding new things to do. The owners have done a brilliant job in making this the perfect getaway destination.

Beautiful house in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying here for our honeymoon. Walking out in the morning with the dog though the vines and relaxing during the day by the pool. We had some great days out to local markets and some of the wine regions nearby.

Fantastic Gite in a beautiful setting

  • 4 of 5

Stayed at Le Chat de Pierre with my husband, our 4 year old son, my mother and mother-in-law. The gite is just fantastic! It has everything you'd need. The rooms are all lovely and spacious and there were nearly enough bathrooms for one each! The surroundings are beautiful! Fields at the back of the house and a little farm across the road. My son loved seeing the animals there.

Charles was great at making sure everything was alright for us and that we'd settled in ok.

We'd love to stay at Le Chat de Pierre again, great holiday had by all! Thank you!

Excellent provided five star accommodation within a lovely peaceful setting

  • 5 of 5

We booked this holiday to spend quality time with our family of eight. Le Chat provided this by giving us our own private space with the three bathrooms and well spaced out bedrooms. The master suite being exceptionally luxurious and spacious. The downstairs had ample space and our grand daughter of eighteen months had plenty of room to play and toddle about. The kitchen provided everything that we needed and we cooked some lovely meals that were eaten ale fresco and around the generous sized kitchen table. We felt completely private within the garden and surrounds of the house and enjoyed the pool to cool off on hot days.

We had a fabulous week and would recommend the property to family and friends.
