About this property

Comfortable family town house close to all ameneties

Watch the boats come in and the world go by with a glass or two of wine, on the child – safe Grandstand terrace of Harbour View. With its panoramic vista from the Island of Alonissos to the hills behind the Town, this is an ideal place to relax.

For more energetic moments there are steps down to the ‘Paralia’ with its numerous tavernas/cafes (most with free Wifi) and shops, whilst the Harbour beach is only ten minutes walk away. For those wishing to hire a car or take a bus there are many other beaches with crystal clear seas and the green and rugged interior of this beautiful island to explore. Walks, with spell - binding views, take the visitor through fertile valleys and pine – clad hills. Numerous springs make Skopelos unlike other Aegean Islands and we particularly like the early months of the year when the gardens and olive groves are carpeted with wild flowers.

Accommodation:
Harbour View was rebuilt as a guest house following an earth quake in 1967 that demolished much of the town. The house is tall and thin in keeping with its neighbours, but because of its intended use there is a small toilet/wet room on each floor.
Ground Floor
House bathroom: a wet room larger than those on the floors above.
Kitchen: with granite work surfaces, microwave, cooker, washing machine, fridge freezer and small sea facing balcony.
Living/dining room: with small flat – screen television and dvd player.
First Floor
Double bedroom: with air conditioning, plenty of wardrobe space and two small balconies.
Single room: with bunk bed (safety rails to be fitted before letting), air conditioning and a small sea facing balcony.
Small wet room: with WC and shower.
Top Floor
Small double bedroom: with air conditioning.
Small wet room: with WC and shower.
Over stairs cupboard: containing clothes dryer and outdoor furniture
Glass doors to large terrace with fabulous views.

It's all about the terrace
Wonderful stay in this spacious quiet and comfy house. This property worked from beginning to end. Liz (the owner) responded promptly and personally to our emails making sure the logistics and financials were dealt with smoothly. Jade met us at the ferry, guided us up to the house and was a great help in getting us settled in. Jade lives nearby and is there for you should a question needs answering. Being a local she provided excellent advice on making the most of the delights of sunny Skopelos. You get an entire house - on 3 levels so there are stairs to navigate. If your knees are at tad dodgy might not be the property for you. I have two partial knee implants and navigated without a problem. You just need to take your time as you climb to an outdoor terrace which makes it all worthwhile. This observation platform is much larger than the pictures suggest with lots of room to dry out wet towels and bathing suits (note: you will need to bring your own beach towels). Wondered about the binoculars supplied but soon found ourselves using them to keep an eye on the comings and going in the port and in town, including the Greek weddings in the ancient iconic church that stands guard over the bay. Spent hours up there - and a few bottles of wine met their end on this truly glorious outdoor space with its stunning views. The house and terrace are separate from surrounding buildings so real sense of privacy and the neighbors are quiet - so undisturbed sleep. I am not into air conditioning but must say the bedroom aircon units ensure a nice cool night as it does get a tad warm on this Greek isle. Big very cold fridge and kitchen has all you need to assemble treats for sessions on the terrace. The property is half way up the hill so bit of a climb - and you will find ways of getting there with fewer steps. Writing this review from the heart of chilly London I miss it already. Sunrise to sunset this is a delicious and dependable place to relax and forget about all those troubles out there in our chaotic world.

Harbour View, Skopelos
Harbour view was everything we had hoped for, excellent facilities, prime location, great views of the harbour. As always the locals are always warm and welcoming , helpful when you have a problem ( like when you get lost down the many side streets ) ,which all goes towards the much needed relaxing holiday we required. We would definetly like to come back again, this time with some family or friends.

Fantastic view!
You could spend your entire holidays on the roof terrace just watching the scenes of the play in the „amphitheatre“ of the bay. You need to be able to climb a lot of stairs as the house can only be reached by 40 steps and there are further stairs inside. Each room has their own bathroom, although not ensuite. Two of them are really small but come handy if there are more than two staying. The house is situated in the old town, two minutes from the restaurants and eight from shops, ferry and bus. It could have been a tad cleaner and it is a typical old house- but for us the best house on the island! Thanks Liz for having us and Jade for the friendly welcome.

About the host

Host profile image
Liz and Brian Ridout are professional biologists living in the West Midlands of England. We run a small international consultancy concerned with the conservation of historic buildings and ancient monuments.

Why they chose this property

We first visited Skopelos in 2003 and found the pine covered hills, deep valleys and beautiful coves so picturesque and interesting that we continued to visit several times each year. Every hike into the countryside produced a photographic record of the wildlife so that we have been able to produce a Field Guide to the Insects and Spiders of the island.

Walking has been interspersed with social activities, particularly lunch times in the numerous peaceful tavernas that line the harbour. Sometimes, in the Greek tradition, these continue into supper times - watching the beautiful contrasts of light and shade as the sun sinks behind the hills. There are also a wide variety of shops, churches and monasteries to explore.

What makes this property unique

Harbour View was bought primarily because of the magnificent views from the roof terrace, its’ convenient location and because our family found the three bathrooms (though small) particularly useful.
