About the property

100m2, open plan, 1 double bedroom, 1 mezzanine bedroom, 3 balconies, pool, BBQ

The apartment is situated on the 1st floor of our family home and there is private access to the upstairs apartment via a side door. With over 100 m2, the high beamed wooden ceiling, stone and wooden walls create an open but cosy atmosphere. The light and open plan kitchen/diner/lounge space creates the perfect social setting. The apartment comfortably accommodates up to 5 people, with one main double bedroom off the living room, an open mezzanine bedroom with 2 single beds which is accessed by loft style stairs, and a separate large cosy corner with a double sofa bed. The Mezzanine room is ideally suited to guests over 8 years old due to the open balcony setting. With south, north and east facing balconies, there is always a quiet place to catch the sun or just unwind. The pool area is shared with the easy-going host family.

During the day you are welcome to unrestricted access to the pool, barbecue area and glass house (includes dining table and sofa area) which is shared with the host family. However, during the evening we ask guests to request use of the shared outdoor area (including the glass house and barbecue). The outside area also includes an outside shower and toilet. It is extremely spacious and faces east/south allowing plenty of sunshine all day.

The apartment is located in a traditional, quiet Portuguese village called Murches set at the foot of Sintra national park, on the outskirts of Cascais. It is ideally situated for exploring the surrounding area, including world class beaches for relaxing and water sports, national park for hiking and mountain biking, 5-star golf courses, world heritage sites and cultural centres.

Within a few minutes walk of the house is the local coffee shop offering a wide range of sweet and savoury pastries and daily fresh bread, a couple of local shops for your basic needs and a family run take away / coffee shop which offers good quality traditional portuguese cuisine. There is also a nice local restaurant 5 minutes walk from your stay. The local children's park is a 10 minute stroll through the village and offers spectacular views of the Sintra hills.

As the apartment is set within our home there will be daily interaction with ourselves. We are extremely approachable and happy to share our local knowledge and tips of where to go and what to see. We are a very easy going couple with a young baby and we will certainly respect your privacy, as this is your holiday and time to relax. Although, we ask our guests to appreciate that this is our home and at times we will be sharing the same outdoor spaces.

Guests should be aware that we do have a medium sized dog, he is extremely friendly, especially with children, but he can give a little bark on entering the front gate.

Guests enter from the street through the main front gate which is also used by ourselves but have their own private access to the upstairs apartment via a side door.

The apartment does not have a washing machine but guests are welcome to use the family washing machine on request.

House Rules:

- Strictly no smoking indoors including the outdoor glass house. Smoking only permitted outside and on balconies with doors closed.

- We ask for quiet after 10pm.

- Guests visitors are only allowed with hosts approval.

- Be environmentally mindful and please remember to turn off lights when they are not in use.

About Mike

Thank you for visiting our property page on Owners Direct. Beth and I are both originally from the Gower, Wales but now call beautiful Cascais our home. After coming on holiday here several times to visit friends who had relocated to Portugal, we realised that we could also make a life for ourselves here. We moved here in 2012 and haven't looked back since. Beth works as a teacher at a local international primary school. I work as a freelance geologist and work abroad throughout the world.

2015 has seen a lot of changes for us. In January, we moved into our new home. In February, we adopted Ulli a rescue dog and then in May, we had the birth of our son, Beau.

Why Mike chose Parish of Alcabideche

After searching the area of Cascais for over a year to find the perfect property, we stumbled across this house and saw its potential as our family home. The main attraction for us was the spacious living areas, both indoors and outdoor. The primary attraction though was certainly the large swimming pool area, outdoor kitchen and conservatory/glass house overlooking the pool which is perfect for outdoor living.

Also, with it's great location allowing us to have easy access to Sintra Hills, the west coast beaches and Cascais town centre we felt this would be the best place for us to live. The house is located far enough outside Cascais to be set in a quiet, semi-rural setting but close enough to Cascais

What makes this apartment unique

The previous owner of the house took great pride when designing the upstairs. Its high beamed ceiling, wood and stone walls create a unique and cosy setting which we feel is perfect for holiday rentals and for our friends and family to stay.

  • A main bedroom is a cosy attic styled double bedroom with wooden walls and ceiling. Sufficient space to hang your belongings and a full length mirror. The mezzanine bedroom is accessed by loft style stairs. The room has a balcony feel and overlooks the main living area. It is all wooden, simple in design with a single bed, side table and lamp. The room is best suited for children of 8 years and older due to it being located at a height.

We would thoroughly recommend this accommodation, Mike and Beth were extremely welcoming and the apartment certainly lived up to expectations. Good Spacious Apartment

Had a lovely 10 days at this property. Mike & Beth where very welcoming, nothing was a problem. Very good location near beach, Cascais, Sintra and Lisbon although you do require a car. The Apartment was very spacious and quirky as the kitchen area was a bar! All very well equipped too.

Fantastic place to stay

We recently visited for a week. The apartment is lovely. It is well equipped and furnished to an excellent standard. It is spacious, airy and cool. The owners were very helpful and friendly, we were made to feel very welcome and relaxed. The pool and Apple TV kept the teenagers happy too. We didn't hire a car as it was a 7 Euro taxi trip into Cascais. You could enjoy the sun or the shade if you preferred. Small supermarket a short walk away. Very peaceful neighbourhood. Would highly recommend this property.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The apartment is well located, spacious and comfortable with many amenities. The owners are very welcoming, helpful and friendly - always on hand if you need them. We found the location made a good base for exploring the area.

Charming, quirky and relaxing

A spacious and quirky rental that was perfect for us, a family of 3. The hosts were helpful without being intrusive and we followed many of their excellent recommendations for sightseeing and eating. The property is a 10 minute drive out of town but it wasn't a problem and it left us in a good position for the shopping centres and visiting sights to the north. Local carry-outs and bakery within walking distance too.

The pool and outside space was lovely and we were welcome to use the washing machine and clothesline. The property was well maintained and spotlessly clean. All in all a really relaxing stay in a beautiful part of Portugal.
