About the property

The cottage is located on a quiet lane and it is the perfect destination and property for a relaxing country break.

The property is over 300 years old and was converted from the village “wash-house” many years ago. The cottage has recently been modernised to a very high standard, whist maintaining much of it’s charm and character. It offers spacious, luxury (“5 star”) sleeping accommodations for two people (super king bed or two singles, please specify preference on booking), plenty of space in the main bedroom for a young child (travel crib and high chair available on request) and there is a high quality sofa-bed available in the living room for extra guests/children (extra bedding available on request). The large bedroom features the original beams. There is a clear view of the White Horse of Kilburn from one of the bedroom windows.

The property features a modern, spacious very well equipped, kitchen/dining area for four people. Facilities include: full/size washer/dryer, fridge/freezer, oven/grill, 4-hob induction top, dishwasher, coffee maker, kettle, toaster and plenty of high quality kitchen equipment, stoneware crockery and solid oak furniture. We provide tea, coffee and many kitchen essentials.

The lounge/living room is full of character and features a solid fuel/wood burner connected to a central heating and hot water system (we provide the wood/solid fuel - you keep the fire burning!). This room has all the original beams visible. The solid fuel heating system is supplemented by modern electric radiators and an immersion heater for hot water. The full bathroom has a high power electric shower providing instant hot water for the shower/full bath. The living room includes a high quality full-HD TV/Radio, FreeSat, Catch-up TV, DVD player, Bose music player and BT Infinity Broadband.

Guests have the use of the whole two-story property. It is an end terrace with a shared wall which is separated from the bedroom and lounge by a staircase. There is a small outdoor seating area in front of the property. Pets will be considered; we just as that they kindly stay in the large pet-friendly kitchen area (we provide a pet-gate).

The property comes with a dedicated parking area and has secure storage for several bikes. It is on a very quiet lane, only about 100 yards from the pub and village square.

We would love for you to come and spend a few days in Kilburn and enjoy some great Yorkshire Hospitality. We can provide you with plenty of information on a range of activities, walks and other excursions. We live in the village and can help you with any special requests or needs.

We will always try to meet and greet you. If we cannot meet you we will arrange for a neighbour or friend to meet you. In exceptional circumstances, such as a very late arrival, we can leave a key in a lock-box inside the porch.

Check in time: 4 pm.

Check out time: 10 am.

We have an arrangement whereby you can pre-book (the evening before) a full English Breakfast at the Forresters Arms (£7.50/person). The Forresters Arms also has a full lunch and dinner menu available. During the Spring/Summer season. the Mouseman Cafe is also open most of the day.

The Neighbourhood

Kilburn village is very popular with walkers, cyclists and pilots wanting to try their hand at gliding at the Yorkshire Gliding Club, which is close by. The village of Kilburn features many beautiful cottages, the White Horse (large hillside figure), the Mouseman Visitor Centre, the historic church of St. Mary’s and the very popular Forresters Arms.

Getting Around

The property is very well located for touring both the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors, plus the city of York, Harrogate, Ripon, Knaresborough etc. A car is strongly recommended, although many beautiful and historic places can be accessed by walking/cycling. Should you want to visit, and can get to Thirsk by train or bus, for a reasonable fee we can organise a pick-up and transport to Kilburn. This takes about 15 minutes (7 miles). Thirsk has it's own charm, being the location for the Herriot Museum (All Creatures Great and Small) and was frequently mentioned as the local market town in Downton Abbey.

Other Things to Note

The property is very safe and secure with security lighting and a lock-box for emergency key storage.

There is a lot more local information and user instructions for the appliances in the leather-bound book at the end of the kitchen cabinets.

Lovely warm cottage in a lovely location

  • 5 of 5

We spent Christmas at Jasmine cottage and had a lovely stay. The welcome was warm with the house spotless, well provisioned and the burner was on ready for us. Jasmine cottage is comfortable and located in the lovely village of Kilburn with the friendly pub and great walks. We will certainly be staying there again.

Owner's Response: Thank you Ben for taking the time to write your experiences at The Cottage, Kilburn n the area. Trust that your dogs also enjoyed the walks. Thankful to hear that you enjoyed Christmas in Kilburn, and many thanks for the little tree. We will keep it alive and hope to have it as a ‘traditional tree’ in Jasmine Cottage! I am just reading your comment also about our ‘friendly pub’. Will pass it on, thx! Please do come to stay again! Happy 2018...

What a gem

  • 5 of 5

Just had a wonderful, relaxing few days at Jasmine Cottage in the stunning village of Kilburn. Terri & Keith were the perfect hosts, on arrival we were met at The Forresters arms and taken up to the cottage, the log fire was already on which was great on a chilly day, we were shown around the cottage and made to feel very welcome, the cottage itself was stunning, wonderfully warm (with the roaring log fire) and very well equipped, everything you could possibly need for a few days away. Many thanks again to Terri & Keith for allowing us to stay in their wonderful cottage, I would highly recommend a stay and hope o visit again soon. Karen & Andy

Owner's Response: Thank you Karen n Andy for taking the time to write a review and for your kind words. You are most welcome to stay any time! You two left the best ever and you were a delight to have at JC, even though you were both suffering with flu. So glad that you enjoyed the cold snap for Christmas time, and able to manoeuvre in the snowy conditions. All the best for 2018! From Keith n Terri

Owner's Response: Julie, nice to have you all at JC, and to have met you both + doggy. Thankful that you made it here and home again in the sludgy then icy road conditions. Thank you for taking the time to give us your feed back/ review, very kind of you. I have passed your ‘friendly pub, and good food’ on to Nigel and Dawn at The Forresters/our local. They are always pleased to hear the good feed back, and we agree with you...close by, friendly n good food! All the best for 2018!

Such a cozy well equipped cottage in a wonderful village. The fireplace was so warm and inviting, made it hard to leave. Thanks for all the firewood and coal. The maps for the walks were great. And the literature on places to visit in the area made our planning easy! Thanks again for a great two week vacation! It was also great having an off street parking spot!! Oh don't forget the robes and slippers! Great touch!

Owner's Response: Sydney, it was a pleasure to have you two in the village. You made a good impression with Linda and one of our farmers who met you in the pub. We do hope that you come stay in Kilburn (and Jasmine Cottage!) again, even with our cold, grey, dark winter nights. Glad that you discovered lots of the local history. All the best!

Very pleasant cottage in beautiful village but heating was inadequate.

  • 3 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in Jasmine Cottage for the very comfortable beds and the very well equipped household provisions. Linda made us most welcome and instructed us on how the heating was supposed to work. However we were very cold for a lot of the time. The living room heated well with the supplementary electric fire and the wood burner. However, it is mistaken to connect the central heating to the wood burner. The wood burner was lit every evening but it was very difficult to keep it going during the night. The consequence was that the bathroom and bedroom were very cold in the morning. The supplementary electric heater in the bedroom did not work at all and the radiator gave off almost no heat. Also the lighting through the passage to the kitchen door was inadequate. Torches were provided but it was still difficult to take the dog out or to collect firewood in the dark. Apart from that, we enjoyed our stay. We loved the village, the pub and the people we met, who were all very welcoming.

Owner's Response: Glad that you enjoyed your visit to Kilburn and the surrounding area, but very sorry to hear about your cold experience. We do send again, our sincere apologies, as the electric radiator was not working (bedroom). Glad that Linda could replace it as soon as you let her know. The woodburner does need coal and wood to get the radiators warm, but most Guests supplement with the electric heaters to really get The Cottage warm and comfy. We are in one of UK's Dark Skies area, thus not much lighting in the back streets, but we certainly will look to see how we can improve the lighting in our own area where we can. Kind regards, Terri & Keith
