Overview

About the property

Peaceful, spacious, light and airy new barn conversion bursting with personality

Newly converted from an old stable and hayloft this upside down 3 bedroom (1 en suite), barn is bursting with character, charm and beams galore. Sleeping 6 people with 2 spacious king size bedrooms and 1 smaller twin bedded room with 3 ft beds which can be made into a 6 ft double. Both double rooms have TV's so there is plenty of time to chill out. All bedding and towels are provided for each bed as well as soap, toilet rolls and shower gel for the bathrooms. The large spacious open plan living area upstairs has 2 large sofas and extra chairs for relaxing in. There is a TV with DVD player and WEE games as well as traditional bard games and books. The fantastic wood burner stove is guaranteed to keep you warm even on the coldest night.

The modern kitchen has a dishwasher, washer dryer, fridge, microwave and is fully stocked with plenty of utensils etc. There will be condiments and tea/coffee to set you of for your stay. The large farmhouse table seats everyone and makes a family mealtime special.

A generous hallway is ideal for all your coats and boots and with a traditional stone floor add real character as well as being practical.

Toddles Barn is tucked away in the corner of the traditional farming village of Skelton nestling in the Cumbrian countryside. Close to the Lakes and ideal for Ullswater only 15 mins away and the market town of Penrith 10 mins away with easy access for the M6 motorway means that you can soon be relaxing in this wonderful hidden gem. There is parking outside the property and a small area for seating and taking in the view after a day out walking on the fells or wandering around the interesting local shops.

With Hutton in the Forest historic house only 3 miles away and Dalemain House near by as well as the newly opened Lowther Castle there is plenty for those to see and do - if historic properties interest you

. For families there are plenty of places to go walking and if the weather is warm a paddle in Ullswater lake is tempting or try the outdoor pool in near by Greystoke. Rheged Discovery centre and the Alpaca centre are nearby as well as the Jersey Ice cream farm - ideal whatever the weather.

The fells of Caldbeck, Mosedale and Mungrisedale are a short drive away and ideal for quieter walking and peaceful views.

The hustle and bustle of Pooley Bridge in summer is still a delight with the steamer leaving the lake shore to take in the sights of Ullswater on the way.

Stop off and wall the journey back or carry on to Glenridding and hire a boat out for the day or simply take in the scenery with an ice cream or hot chocolate depending what the weather decides to do !

After a long day out return to the relaxing peace of Toddles Barn and soak away the strain of a day's walking in our lovely bath tub or simply cosy up in a chair with a good book or film.

The occasional cow from our neighbouring farm may break the silence and if you are lucky they will sometimes walk right past your bedroom window on the way to the fields to graze in summer. The church bell will ring on Sunday at 11 am and sometimes on a Thursday at 8 am to start the day.

There is a warm welcome at our new property and we hope to make your stay with us as special and enjoyable as possible.

Due to the nature of the property and the fact there are so many wonderful beams - it might not be suitable for giants!! Occasionally you might want a hard hat when tending the fire ,if you forget to duck, but we do have plasters and hopefully you will find the beams a real fantastic feature and memorable for all the right reasons.

About JOANNE FISHER

I am Cumbrian born and bred having lived on farms in the area. Four years ago we moved to the village of Skelton and have just finished the conversion of this great barn. My husband is farm manager at the local agricultural college at Penrith and we have 3 daughters who all like the outside life. With 3 cats and pony called Rosie we are always busy and with the addition of a puppy life is definitively mad.

JOANNE FISHER purchased this barn in 2011

Why JOANNE FISHER chose Penrith

We always wanted to live in the countryside and have always lived and worked on farms in the county. We now own our own property and loved the location in the village. We are tucked away at the end of a quiet dead end lane and are surrounded by fields and animals.

What makes this barn unique

Toddles barn is full of character and I was determined to keep as much of the original barn as possible working with local tradesmen to create a truly unique property to come to stay in and relax away from the hustle and bustle of modern day life. So many barn conversions loose their character and sense of what they were and I didn't want this so have tried to make sure it has all the character kept and it feels right because of this.

Turn here towards St Michael's Church and Toddles Barn is the last house on the right before the Church next to our house Church House. There is a bright green sign on the end of the property.

Toddles Barn is an ideal base to explore the Northern Lakes and also the unspoilt Eden Valley. We are close to many local attractions, historic country houses, lakes, mountains and fells are all within a 15 minute drive away.

Ullswater Lake is the closest and beautiful all year round and only a short drive over the spectacular Kirkstone Pass and you are into the heart of the lakes with Windermere and Ambleside easy to reach.

If you like historic properties and gardens then Penrith area is full of many fascinating places to visit. Superb beautiful barn with all the comforts of home. .

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful barn exceeded all expectations. It is the perfect place to get away and spend some time in the countryside. It is spacious and comfortable .A great deal of effort has been put into the designing of the accomodation to ensure that the character of the barn has remained at the same time incorporating modern comfortable living space.

The bedrooms are spacious and tastefully decorated with plenty of storage.

The master bedroom has ensuite shower .

There is also another bathroom with shower and free standing bath which is the most comfortable bath I have ever been in perfect to relax after a day out exploring .

Upstairs the kitchen and living area are open plan with plenty of comfortable seating .The kitchen is equipped with everything you could possible need including dishwasher.

So much thought has gone into it this is by far the best accomodation i have evet stayed in Joanne is a lovely lady who could not have been more helpful .

We were six adults spending a family celebration it was just perfect.

The village of skelton is small and quiet with only one pub we ate there and the food was amazing and much better than you would expect for a small village pub.

There is no shop in the village the nearest being about 6 miles away so would need to make sure you took everything you needed especially in your first day.

I would highly recommend this property and will definately be returning at some point.

Loved everything about the property!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful and comfortable accommodations with plenty of room for all of us. A very relaxing place to wind down after a busy month visiting the U.K. before heading home. Would definitely want to stay there again.

Multiple other locations that we stayed at had one or two things nice about the property but this one seemed to check all the boxes. Spacious, comfortable, clean, nice bedrooms and bathrooms, nice kitchen with all the amenities and even a cloths washer/dryer. My boys appreciated the good wifi, large screen tv and DVD player.

Have to also add that we were missing our pets at home and their 2 very friendly cats came over on their own and joined us. We all loved having their company.

Thanks so much for all your thoughtful details.

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure and delight to meet your family on the last leg of your time here in the UK. I know you stayed at some very special places enroute so what a compliment from you all - most kind. The barn is a unique place and if you enjoy character, quirkyness, a very relaxing chilled out place then I think you would also like to stay here. I think it is the mixture of all the old wooden beams, soft decoration colours, homely touches and space that many people are enjoying and sharing with others. We loved creating the barn and making it a special place to stay in and after our second season are so overwhelmed with the response so far. We are now looking forward to 2018 and hopefully making more special memories for other visitors. Once again thanks, the cats are also looking forward to more cuddles but I have told them they are not allowed to show guests into the property!!. Best wishes Joanne

Gorgeous

  • 5 of 5

Joanne has thought of every detail to make your stay perfect - even down to ice in the freezer.

A beautiful spacious property that you will find hard to leave.

Lovely quiet location - a dead end with a church at the end and fields opposite.

Comfy sofas and chairs - with plenty of room for 6.

Open plan kitchen diner means that who ever is cooking is not separated from the rest of the party.

Great supply of equipment in the kitchen.

Beautifully appointed bedrooms with lovely bed linen.

2 x Gorgeous Bathrooms

The whole Barn has a very lovely cosy, relaxed feel about it

Pub is just a few strides away from Toddles Barn.

We will be back Joanne.

Kind regards, Julie, Paul, Harry and Moi

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for this review. It is great when guests love what we have created, which we hope gives them a lovely experience away on holiday. The barn is a very relaxing, social space and we have furnished to provide what we think guest need but also in a relaxed manner. I have booked you in again to stay and are delighted that you enjoyed it so much. To me that is the best type of proof -when guests book again. See you again next year. Joanne
