Sleeps 6 in three bedrooms with their own bathrooms, private yet close to Sarlat

La Retraite - Beautiful home with three bedrooms sleeping 6, which is 1.5 miles from the medieval town of Sarlat by car. The house is perfectly located in the golden triangle formed between Sarlat, Beynac and Montfort with easy access to the many surrounding tourist attractions nearby.

Sorry no pets or smoking.

Detached, restored and extended with high quality fittings, decor and furniture making this house rather special, it has all the creature comforts you could possibly need.

Private garden with heated swimming pool in the summer, wooden decking and veranda for your sole use. We have installed an electrically operated retractable floating safety cover which will enclose the pool and ensure it can be made off limits to children, in the event someone falls into the pool the floating cover will support their weight.

On the Ground floor there is a large master bedroom which has an en-suite shower area with doors out to the veranda. Lovely twin bedded room with dedicated shower room across the hall. Separate WC in hallway.

Large well equipped dining kitchen with dishwasher, electric oven, gas hob and large fridge freezer and doors to the terrace.

Lovely lounge also with doors to the terrace, UK satellite television and Bluray/DVD player with surround sound. Quality leather sofas to seat six in comfort, great room in which to relax and unwind.

Sorry we don't have French TV channels

On the first floor there is a superb bedroom with a vaulted beamed ceiling in the tower, own bathroom with WC across the landing. Additional twin bedroom room available on this floor which is only suitable for children, please enquire for details and the additional cost.

Less than a mile to the nearest supermarket and it’s possible to walk or cycle into the medieval centre of Sarlat where the choice restaurants and bars abound.

Quiet neighbourhood set along a wooded lane leading out of Sarlat on the western side of the town so no need to crawl through Sarlat in busy peak period traffic when heading to the majority of tourist destinations.

Lockable storage for bikes etc available in the garage and off road parking for several cars.

Part covered dining terrace with furniture and outdoor stone BBQ. To the rear of the house is a wood which provides privacy and the garden and pool at the front of the house are screened from the quiet road, the garden is mainly laid to lawn plus the decking area.

The swimming pool is 8x4m and is heated by a heat pump in peak season from May to September. The heat pump can raise the temperature of the pool between 5 - 7 degrees centigrade and is set to heat the pool to a maximum of 29 degrees centigrade.

Washing machine and dryer provided in the basement garage.

Just over one hours drive (70km) from Bergerac airport with flights from Edinburgh, Liverpool, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, East Midlands, Bristol, Exeter, Southampton and London Stansted and just under one hours drive (48km) from Brive airport with flights from London Stansted and London City. Flights from several UK airports are also provided to Limoges which is about 95 minutes drive away.

Why Steven Brierley chose Sarlat-la-Canéda

Fell in love with France when Lorraine and I first came here 25 years ago and in particular the Dordogne which we have enjoyed visiting many times. Retirement and the sale of my business brought the opportunity to achieve our dream of owning a house in the Dordogne, we spent two weeks viewing properties then found the perfect one! We wanted to be close to a town yet set in a rural location and the heated swimming pool was a must. The house has all we wanted and whilst being a traditional building also has a modern contemporary feeling inside.

What makes this house unique

Felt like home when we saw the house and we loved the large rooms and the ensuite facilities. The kitchen is well equipped and the house is flooded with light from the large veranda windows on the ground floor and the dual aspect of the windows in the tower bedroom. The pool was a must have and the large decked area is perfect for relaxing and getting a good tan. Above all it's private and the perfect place to relax.

The perfect location for exploring the Dordogne being just minutes to Sarlat which is a jewel of the region with it's yellow sandstone buildings set in the narrow streets of the medieval town. Within 15 minutes drive you can be in the fortified Bastide town of Domme where breathtaking views of the Dordogne river await you. It's the same distance to the Dordogne river at La Roque Gageac where you can hire a canoe to see the sights whilst you paddle down the river. You should visit the castles at Beynac, Les Milandes, Chateau de Fenelon and Castelnaud which are all 15-20 minutes away by car and well worth the effort. Only ten minutes away are the wonderful gardens of Marqueyssac which are are open all year. These gardens are also open on Thursday evenings in July and August when they are lit by thousands of candles and groups of muscians provide entertainment as you walk through the candle lit paths. 30 minutes north brings you to Lascaux caves with their pre-historic cave paintings. At lunch time and in the evening you can walk from the house into Sarlat in about 30 minutes or take the car and park near the old town where you will find a stunning choice of bars and restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets.

Well equipped, comfortable and a good location.

La Retraite is exceptionally well equipped, with everything needed for a family stay and useful touches such as adaptors from French Electrical sockets to UK square pin plugs. The house is comfortably furnished and well maintained, and individual heating is available in all rooms for the cooler months as well as fans for the hotter ones. In the house there are clear instructions for the operation of all the equipment, and there is also useful information on the local area. The location is very convenient for Sarlat, with a good town car park just a few minutes drive away. The location of the property is, however, attractively rural. In the local area there are many attractions within comfortable driving distance. We can happily recommend this very attractive property.

Immaculate house in a great location

Lovely, comfortable property in a great location a short drive away from Sarlat, great supermarkets and lots of interesting sites. Beautifully presented but still practical for two small children (6 and 3). The pool was nice - clean and a decent size. For those with very small toddlers, although there is a pool cover, the absence of fencing might be a concern. Responsive communications from the owners.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely review and we are delighted to hear you had a good holiday in Sarlat and enjoyed the house. Your concern about the pool is understood. We had a choice between a floating security cover that will support the weight of a person should they fall in and a security fence around the pool - they both meet the French safety standard for swimming pools. We felt on balance that the security cover meant the pool was totally secure whenever it was locked in place and could only be opened with the key which activates the electric motor for the cover. The cover can be opened and closed in a few minutes with the key. There are periods when the house is unoccupied and with no near neighbours the secure cover provides the best safety option. We do understand that this means guests have to be vigilant when the cover is off. All the best Steven and Lorraine

Sophisticated and well equipped

A charming, peacefully-located & sophisticated holiday home. It is well-equipped, combining modernity with traditional French charm. It met the needs of five mature adults very effectively: the pool and patio were very enjoyable in the early evening sun with a barbecue. It made a perfect base for visiting Sarlat & the surrounding Dordogne area: thank you Stephen.

Pafait! Idyllique!

We had an absolutely idyllic week at this stunning property in the Dordogne!

The house is extremely well kitted out with all the things you would need and more! The rooms are tastefully decorated and very clean. The lay out of the house is perfect and our daughter loved sleeping upstairs in her own "princess turret" room whilst we had the spacious downstairs master bedroom and our son had the twin room to himself. The finish and quality of the fittings and fixtures was fantastic and made the stay even more perfect. The garden was a lovely space for the kids to play in and we made good use of the barbecue, "Pierre" the pea-hen was our friendly pet/visitor for the week, the children delighted in spotting her when she ventured into the garden. The pool was FANTASTIC! Deliciously warm and beautifully lit, our youngest learned how to swim without arm bands whilst we were there and the children would have happily spent every waking moment in the pool if they could have! The house itself is very private and hardly overlooked. The area is very quiet yet still very close to Sarlat for access to their supermarkets. It is a beautiful medieval town and well worth a walk around, we walked from the house into Sarlat which took about half an hour. We also did a few day trips to go canoeing and visit caves, etc, and the house is very well placed for accessing all that the area has to offer. We have visited the Dordgone a few times and this is by far the best place we have ever stayed in! We will definitely be back and have recommended it to family and friends. Thank you so much for our magical holiday!

Wow!

From the moment we entered the gates we knew we had made a great choice.

The house and garden just got better the more we looked around.

Everything is so well thought out and put together, nothing has been overlooked and that all made for a perfect week.

The house was immaculate and the pool lovely.

The information pack was concise and all the instructions clear and easy to follow.

The owners were attentive and made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed making the whole experience very pleasant indeed.

The fact that it is five minutes away from arguably one of the prettiest towns in the area was the cherry on the cake.
