About Jerry Dunlop

Ann and I are now retired and live in North Wales, where Ann grew up. We have had the apartment since 2010 and have thoroughly modernised it to cope with ski holidays with 4 children.

Jerry Dunlop purchased this apartment in 2010

Why Jerry Dunlop chose Saint-Gervais-les-Bains

Le Grattague is in a private Residence with no shops or bars. It has its own swimming pool during the summer and a tennis court. The sound of cow bells can be heard during the summer and the mountain is open to walkers from the chalet entrance. Chamois are often seen on the hill side and in quiet times, right up to the front door.

The ski area is extensive and the local ski school is very good with all abilities and languages. A short walk or drive away is the hamlet of Communaille. It has 2 restaurants/bars, both of which are excellent and very welcoming. Le Bettex is the mid station and the ski bus (which runs during the summer as well) runs a shuttle service between Grattague, Bettex and Communaille. There are 3 hotels at Le Bettex as well as chalets and apartments.

St Gervais is at the bottom of the cable car and is a very lively town serving the surrounding area. It is famous for the thermal baths, the mountain railway to Les Houches (TMB) and the ice rink.

What makes this apartment unique

A private shuttle bus links the areas of Le Grattague, Bettex and Communaille during the summe and winter months making this a perfect retreat with instant access to the mountain. The views of Mont Blanc are stunning.

Walks start straight from the door. All walks are clearly signed on the mountain in average times. The thermal springs are very popular both as a spa and also as a swimming pool.

Lovely appartment on the mountainside.

We had a great stay this apartment. It's very close to le Bettex which is great for walking/mountain biking in the summer. Amazing views all round. We especially loved the pool. The apartment was clean and very well equipped.

Skiing at Le Bettex February 2018

  • 5 of 5

Another fabulous stay - many thanks to you both. Great apartment for a winter break. Perfect views. Great facilities and well resourced with everything we could possibly need. Very restful. Children very much enjoyed skiing with husband after I was forced to rest due to unforeseen injury! Lots of snow meant this year we had to catch the free bus service which was efficient and thoroughly practical. Key collection was effortless.

Amazing views and all mod-cons...

  • 4 of 5

Had no idea what to expect but the appatment was much bigger than most places we've stayed. We shopped in the intermarchet then cooked everynight - kitchen had everything we needed.

If skiing i'd reccomend a locker in Betex as i wouldn't fancy the walk to the bus in ski boots. Hire a Car as well as it's nice to have a drive around .

Excellent -The apartment more that delivered against our expectations. Truely relaxing.

  • 5 of 5

The apartment formed an ideal base for a week's skiing; we opted for a couple of minutes drive to access the Evasion Mont-Blanc ski area via Le Bettex [free parking and two under tens who weren't keen on carrying their skis was our defence], despite a regular ski-bus within a few minutes walk of the building. The Evasion Mont-Blanc area itself was extensive, and in terms of access, the Bettex-Arbois link probably provided the quickest link to the 'heart' of the ski area with plenty of great skiing for all ability levels.

The apartment's location didn't disappoint either; stunning vistas, culminating in Mont Blanc; ensured the 'Alpine' experience we sought. Set high up in the mountains, there was no chance of any disturbance - the apartment was literally set at the end of the road!

The accommodation more than met our family's [x4] self-catering needs, with a new/modern well appointed galley kitchen, sitting room, two bedrooms - both with very comfy bunk beds, bathroom and separate WC. In terms of practicalities, we had no issues / concerns regarding cleanliness, availability of hot water, ability to heat the accommodation, heard very little noise from neighbouring apartments nor did we have any concerns with regards to the security provided by the complex. The apartment was well apportioned, everything in good working order and the TV/ DVD was a bonus [for our children]. In addition, there was ample parking allocated right outside the apartment, so again no concerns.

Finally, the owner Jerry was very accommodating, answering numerous questions prior to our visit, which in the main centred around the Evasion Mont-Blanc ski area. His help and prompt advice made this a holiday to remember. Highly recommended - Many thanks!

Very comfortable accommodation with truly spectacular scenery

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 stayed at Le Bettex for 7 nights after making the long drive down from the UK.

The apartment was very comfortable and the stunning views and surrounding area made it well worth the drive.

The highlights of our trip were:

1) Swimming every day in the heated pool overlooking Mont Blanc.

2) Walking from Les Communales to Le Bettex.

3) The Thursday morning market in St Gervais.

We certainly recommend staying in this apartment.

Awesome base to explore a wonderful area

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is well presented with all the amenities needed to use it as a base to explore the area. It is really easy to find and there is plenty of parking. The views are incredible and we thoroughly enjoyed eating breakfast on the balcony every morning as we watched the para gliders soar in the valley. There is very little need to drive anywhere as there are plenty of walks that are accessible straight from the apartment. In ski season, the ski bus is a short walk away which also makes the slopes quickly and easily accessible. The gondola is a short walk away in the summer which makes it easy to visit St Gervais and Megeve without driving - although driving is easy too. Can highly recommend a stay here.

Spoilt for choice in Saint Gervais, a week is barely enough time to ski the entire Evasion Mont-Blanc area (3rd largest domain in France) and its 445 kilometres of tree-lined slopes. The Evasion Mont-Blanc domain boasts 219 slopes, 107 ski lifts and 650 artificial snow makers. This vast playground offers 2 snow parks for freestyle fanatics and a great choice of off-piste on Mont Joly or towards Saint-Nicolas.

In the summer the slopes are open to walkers and mountain bikers with the lifts taking you and your bike to the top of the mountain.

As soon as the snow melts sign posts are in place to show visitors the many footpaths around the mountains. During July and August the lifts work to allow all abilities access to the high pastures either walking or mountain biking.

Chamonix under Mont Blanc is a busy mountain centre with gondola access to Mont Blanc itself. Cable cars go all the way to Italy and back. The Mont Blanc tunnel is an easy way to visit Italy, have a pizza and be back for tea. Especially driving the high mountain passes on the return (best in summer).

Annecy and Geneva are both easy to reach. Annecy is a beautiful medieval town set on the shores of a stunning lake with rivers and streams flowing through the old town.

Geneva (Switzerland, car drivers need a 30euro pass) is a delightful city that easy to walk around but has an excellent tram system. Boat trips on lake Geneva allow you to appreciate the history of this great city.
