About the property

Beautiful and spacious lakeside apartment.

Please look at the video link!

Lakeside Village in QDL is often referred to as 'the most glamorous and expensive area of property in the world '.

Whilst not necessarily absolutely true, it is a very nice place to spend a holiday. It's private, peaceful, invariably enjoys glorious weather and the people holidaying there are polite and considerate and friendly ( it attracts people of this nature ).

It's safe for kids ( as it's enclosed by keycode gates and now monitored by a CCTV network, pretty hazard free, and full of other people all looking out for each other, your kids included ) Children make friends almost instantly with others, allowing you to relax and take a break from having to entertain them yourselves - how much is that worth?!

Lakeside Village centres around a 20 metre pool, shallow at one end, including a small in-pool island ( kids love that bit ) with a 2 foot deep baby pool attached at one end.

There are lots and lots of sun-loungers, lots of lawned area, lots of large palm trees, and therefore lots of shaded area too, if you need a break from the sun, which you almost certainly will want to, or you'll want your kids to - well if you have any, obviously.

The extremely friendly Pedro runs the pool bar, open March to October ( though that may vary ). He serves food, as well as coffees and drinks of all kinds. He'll stay open as long as you want him to, I'd say. His G&T's and V&T's don't have an awful lot of T in them, so be warned!

( Read this bit if you like golf:

Now boasting three championship courses, the Paul McGinley Golf Academy and TaylorMade Fitting Center, Quinta do Lago’s reputation as a premier golf destination has never been stronger. The newest of its three courses, Laranjal, was voted ‘Best Golf Course’ at the Portuguese Travel Awards (Publituris) in 2011 and the iconic South Course, eight-times host of the Portuguese Open, was included in Golf World Magazine’s ‘Top 100 Golf Courses in Europe’ in 2012.It was here that Colin Montgomerie captured the first of his 24 European Tour titles in 1989, setting a new course record with a final round of 63. Many more golfing legends have teed off since including Justin Rose, Ian Poulter, Padraig Harrington, Vijay Singh and Ernie Els.As one of the most comprehensive golfing estates in the world, Quinta do Lago is the destination of choice for millions of players who travel from all five continents in search of the ultimate golf experience. With two of the finest practice facilities in the area , the resort also attracts many top professional and amateur golfers who come here looking for first-class facilities and the finest conditions in which to improve their game. For residents and regular visitors, Quinta do Lago has two of the most exclusive members clubs in Europe, CGQL and Laranjal. Both offer levels of personal service that are unrivalled in Southern Europe along with a truly unique golf club atmosphere.)

Golf aside, Lakeside Village has a lake ! The clue is in the name...

It's salt water so far easier to swim in than the pool. For some reason it's nearly only kids that seem brave enough to swim in it, but take it from me, it's nice in there ( and plenty of fish in there to prove that the water is clean ). Officially there are lake rules discouraging you from swimming, as the lake is also a water sports lake, so you get the occasional small catamaran sailing fairly slowly to and fro. They tend to sail at the opposite end of the lake, so it's pretty unlikely you'll be mown down ... And it's never actually happened to anybody.

You can hire pedalo's, windsurfers, catamarans as I said, stable kayaks and stand up paddle boards ( SUP's ) - at prices that don't take the p***.

You can have lessons too, if you'd like.

Ok, so this apartment :

It's ground floor and on the end/ corner, which means it has wide terrace/ patio on 3 sides.

It's by far the largest floor area of all the Lakeside apartments, and the only one that isn't overlooked by others.

It is 40 feet from the lake itself, with arguably the best view of the lake, from the cool chairs and table on the patio.

The apartment has a large and spacious lounge area , overlooking the lake, with a two sided ( new ) trendy, 6 person black leather corner sofa, around a large coffee table, as well as another 3 person low ( matching black leather ) sofa to one side, a Conran 'Corbusier style' chaise lounge also in black leather and a further colonial deck chair, finished in velvet.

The round glass and iron dining table, in one corner, has 6 wrought iron chairs, with cushions.

The new Hitachi 42'' plasma is wall mounted on the chimney breast, wired to a Blue-Ray DVD Player and cable TV, including all British channels as well as other European and Sky Sports 1,2 and 3. NB the full channel choice is on the ' DVB-C channels' setting on the TV - be sure that you are on this!

The new Wharfdale 150W Soundbar and woofer is Bluetooth connectible to your smartphone, as well as a mini-jack to mini-jack option. There is another iLuv iPod / phone dock in the living room too.

There is also a large selection of DVD 's at the apartment, on a shelf in the lounge and a variety of paperback books too, for guest use.

The apartment has many multi plugs for British electrical appliances, and has its own wifi ( code written under the black CISCO router in the lounge ).As with all wifi kit, if it stops working just turn the black switch to 'off' at this router, wait 15 seconds, and then switch it on again.

There is a black folder in the lounge contains various useful instructions and local information, though the Quinta App is best for local up to date info.

The kitchen is newly fitted, featuring a large, tall fridge/ freezer, a washing machine, a tumble dryer, an oven and hob with cooker hood, plus a microwave oven too.

There are lots of cooking implements, pots and pans, tasteful crockery and cutlery, cork screws and bottle openers, a bread bin, a pineapple cutter, a grapefruit knife, lots of glasses, mugs and cups, a cafetière and an juice squeezer, a Smoothie maker and a NESPRESSO capsule coffee machine ( bring your own capsules and don't forget to top up the water ), amongst other things including a pierrade

electric hot stone table cooker, and a toaster.

The second bedroom has 2 single beds, that can be pushed and zipped together if preferred, a chest of drawers and wardrobe, with a designer feathered mirror.

The shutters over the double patio doors, when closed, can be used to keep all light out if deeper sleep is required.

The second bathroom has a loo, a bath with lit stones at its base, a large wall mounted mirror with integral lighting and 'his and her' basins ( though equally they could be 'hers and hers' or 'his and his' ....)

The master bedroom is larger, with a double bed that can be separated into two, with side tables and side lights. Again it has shutters, and patio doors and windows to the terrace, which overlooks the lake.

The glass designer mirrored chest of drawers and dressing table lend a sophisticated look.

The wardrobe space is significant, with lots of hangers.

There is a large TV and a further DVD player for those lazy / romantic nights in.

The ensuite is very big and a 'wet room'.

The loo and basin and glass bordered shower ( all newly fitted ) are ultra modern.

The ' no ledges at all ' make it all wheelchair compatible, as is the whole apartment ( having a sloped ramp up to the terrace from the path outside.

The whole apartment has air conditioning and the units can pump out warm air too, if required.

The beach is a 10- 15 minute stroll away, and is miles long, bordered by sand dunes ( which are designated a nature reserve ).

You take your own towels ( loads of towels in the apartment ) etc to lie on, or if you prefer you can pay a small fee for a lounger and straw umbrella.

The access to the beach is usually ( but not only ) via the famously picturesque wooden footbridge across the shallow tidal estuary ( Ria Formosa ), past Gigi's restaurant ( Google it ). Gigi's is often frequented by 'well known people' including an occasional European royal.

Canoe and SUP trips can be arranged on this estuary too.

The beach has a cool beach hut selling alcoholic and soft drinks and ice creams etc. There is no music playing, so it's a quiet place. Banana boat and do-nut rides are now available too, about 200 metres along the beach, past the beach hut.

Further down the beach, beginning a km away, are various other restaurants , along with the availability of more 'banana boat' and 'do-nut' rides, plus waterskiing on calm days.

Quinta and the neighbouring areas that make up 'The Golden Triangle' of the Algarve coast, is blessed with many amazing restaurants. The closest is Casa do Lago ( a few hundred metres walk around the lake ) along with the more informal 51 ( Italian ) and the very cool Shack bar and restaurant featuring live music nights and available for private hire.

Taxis are easy to book, so a car is very optional.

3 Water parks ( a real laugh ) are a short drive away, as is the small city of Faro, which has the nearest airport ( 20 minutes away ).

The other option is to fly to Lisbon ( generally cheaper ) and hire a car for the 2 hour drive to Quinta ( cheaper car hire too than at Faro airport ).

Go karting is to be found at the nearby Almancil, as are supermarkets, eateries and shops- all very Portuguese. Bikes can be hired there, and delivered to and collected from, the apartment.

Groceries can be ordered on line (as can wine etc) and delivered by Apolonia supermarket in Almancil.

A 20 minute walk away ( at Roundabout 2 ) is the Pure Cafe and gym ( day, week and month passes available ) There is also a quality hairdressers and therapist ( at time of writing ).

The old town of Loule is a short drive too, and worth a visit. Val de Lobo is 15 minutes in a taxi and stays open very late.

About Danielle

The owners are a professional couple, with teenage daughters, who have spent many many weeks in this apartment, and have even been tempted to move there full time.

They are all active people and love the lifestyle that Quinta, and particularly Lakeside Village, offers.

The whole family is very sociable and enjoy and embrace what's on offer in the area.

Frequently, they are accompanied by friends on holidays to Lakeside, who rent other apartments in Lakeside. Anyone who ever joins them on holiday ends up becoming a lifetime Lakeside Village devotee.

Danielle purchased this apartment in 2007

Why Danielle chose Quinta do Lago

It is the largest apartment in Lakeside Village, has the largest outside terrace and is also nearest the lake. It also has the most privacy of all the apartments, having a private area of lawn adjacent to it. It is very light and airy - occupying a corner position with large patio doors on 3 sides of the property.

It has recently been refurbished and has new and stylish bathrooms and kitchen. The furniture is of a contemporary style - but comfortable.

The kitchen is well stocked with all the usual appliances - and is well equipped in terms of cooking utensils.

It sports a brand new wall-mounted flat screen TV (plus DVD player and sound bar). It has cable TV which allows most UK channels to be viewed, as well as other European channels.

What makes this apartment unique

It's views, size and position - as well as its general setting.

They would encourage you to do the same ( they make no profit from cleaning costs )
