Overview

About the property

Hilltop farmhouse, sleeps 12-20, private pool, 10 bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms

A home away from home in the heart of Tuscany, Belvedere Farmhouse has timeless appeal.

Belvedere Farmhouse (sleeps 12-20) is a beautifully restored 19th Century farmhouse, ideally positioned on a Tuscan hilltop, with magnificent panoramic views over the vineyards and olive groves beyond. A haven of peace and tranquillity, the farmhouse is a perfect place to enjoy the Italian way of life. A retreat for all ages, the villa accommodates all those who wish to appreciate the region’s rich history. We cater for everyone including families looking for an accessible, relaxing Italian poolside holiday and groups of friends who wish to unlock the secret behind Tuscany’s unfaltering appeal.

The house, built in the early 1900s and run as a farm until shortly after WWII, the villa retains much of its traditional, rustic character. Wooden beams, old stone fireplaces and antique iron gates are complimented by sophisticated modern touches such as Wi-Fi, British plug sockets in the bedrooms, monogrammed pool towels, and a prolific ice machine.

Available for exclusive rental, Belvedere Farmhouse sleeps up to 13 people (4 doubles, 2 twins and 1 single) whilst 4 recently refurbished bathrooms ensure guests have the privacy they need. An additional three bedrooms (2 double rooms and 1 triple with 3 single beds) and two further bathrooms can be rented to accommodate up to 20 guests. One of these rooms has wheelchair access, please inquire for more information. Cot beds for infants and babysitting can be organised upon request.

The generous living space includes a sitting room with a large fireplace, an open plan dining room (seating up to 20) and kitchen. The kitchen is equipped with all modern appliances and a traditional wooden-fired pizza oven, and leads out to a sun filled veranda and a pretty Mediterranean garden. An informal sitting room with a large flat screen TV, giant floor cushions, comfortable sofas and plenty of well-thumbed books makes this a perfect spot for a well earned siesta.

The panoramic views encourage guests to make the most of the two terraces. The south facing terrace is a great breakfast spot with vistas leading to San Gimignano’s iconic lofty towers whilst the west terrace captivates guests with its mesmerising sunsets. The 12 × 7 metre swimming pool and two gazebos are nestled amongst olive trees and the child safe gate and fence ensures safety for those with young families. Outdoor lighting, comfortable seating and an excellent BBQ all inspire al fresco eating and living.

There is a friendly Italian housekeeper available who makes sure everyone is looked after. Designed around the request of the guests she can arrange anything from bicycle hire, a day trip to a winery as well as delicious home cooked meals using fresh wholesome local ingredients. Bookings for the above facility need to be made in advance.

Nearby area

Within easy reach of two international airports (Pisa and Florence); Belvedere Farmhouse is perfectly positioned to explore the hidden depths of this bountiful region. Central Tuscany has a fascinating history, rich artistic heritage, picture postcard scenery, and of course sensational food.

Uncovering the many classic treasures of Renaissance Florence, walking through the medieval cobbled streets of Siena, cycling around Lucca’s ancient walls or just enjoying an evening passeggiata around the nearby village of Certaldo, visitors will be sure to take home happy memories of la dolce vita.

Aside from the classic towns such as Florence and Pisa, Belvedere is surrounded by charming, lesser known towns which are well worth a visit.

Montanione is a little hidden gem that will excite the taste buds with its excellent local organic production of honey, variety of delicious cheeses and the Tuscan famous sausages ‘soprassata’ and ‘finocchiona’ or the Tuscan ‘salame’. Its small historical centre is well-known for its artisanal craftsmanship and spectacular period architecture.

Certaldo, comes alive during the annual music street festival “The Mercantia” which takes place in July, whilst the picturesque towns of Volterra, San Gimignano and Monteriggioni, are also alluring. Mercantia (theatre, music, performances, etc.).

Gastronomy, Art and Tradition

Tuscany has something to suit all tastes and interests but the region is a utopia for art lovers. Guests of the Belvedere Farmhouse keen to experience Tuscany’s unrivalled art scene will be spoilt for choice for places to visit.

Central Tuscany is equally appealing as a playground for the gourmand, abundant with quality wine, olive oil, porcini mushrooms and of course white tartufi (truffles). Among the region’s many local gastronomic specialities tartufi are so famous they command their own festival, “The Feast of the White Truffles”, held in November in San Miniato just 10km from Belvedere. San Miniato also hosts a fabulous Slow Food market on the third Sunday of every month.

The team at Belvedere Farmhouse have created an extensive practical ‘insider’ guide of a whole host of exciting activities to ensure visitors get the most out of their stay with us. We advise organising all activities with our host upon arrival.

The hilly terrain around Belvedere Farmhouse is excellent for cycling and we work alongside an excellent company who offer quality cycle equipment and mapped routes to suit different levels of fitness and competence.

Within 30 min drive from Belvedere you can access two golf courses as well as tennis courses.

There is an excellent riding school in the vicinity which caters for beginners as well as more experienced riders who can embark on a 2-6 hr hack through the natural Tuscan countryside and woodlands surrounding San Miniato.

There are plenty of local food markets, typical Tuscan restaurants, and seasonal sagre (town food festivals). We can also help organise cooking courses and visits.

Belvedere Farmhouse is located within easy reach, 45-60 min drive, from either of two international airports (Florence and Pisa). We strongly recommend Pisa airport from a logistics perspective, frequency of flights, car rental location and ease of getting out of airport/city or distance to train station.

Heavenly holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had such a great holiday at Belvedere. Booking it was simple and easy. Information provided was really helpful including directions. The house is stunning - amazing vistas and totally clean and functional in every room and bathroom. Perfect for families or a group of friends. Great things to drive out and see local sights too.

A Rustic Tuscan Retreat

  • 4 of 5

The shabby chic style and personal touches create a home away from home and we didn't want to leave!

It is very well equipped with a fantastic kitchen - great for dining at home ...there is even a wooden fired pizza oven! The movie room with huge floor cushions was perfect for the children to lounge on and watch their favourite DVDs.

The 12 metre swimming pool is surrounded by a gated fence making it child friendly and we loved the personalised Belvedere towels!

Vittorio who is passionate about his wines chooses a selection of house wines and prosecco for his guests. On arrival you are given a bottle of the family Extra Virgin Olive Oil and the pantry is stocked with essentials. Sandra, the housekeeper, comes to the house every day and can also be called upon for shopping, cooking and babysitting.

Belvedere is 10 kilometres from the medieval town of San Miniato, Certaldo is another local town well worth a visit. Slightly further afield are Volterra, San Gimignano and Monteriggioni, while Siena, Lucca and the coastal town of Versilia are less than an hour away.

Although it is wonderfully remote you are still connected via wi-fi – if you want to be!!

Would highly recommend! Can't wait to go back! Georgina - September 2015
