Secluded, a great getaway from city-life.

Above Burry Port lies the secluded hillside hamlet known as 'The Graig' to locals. Here roads lead only to bridleways heading for the Pembrey mountain & beyond. Dan y Graig (under the rock) nestles beneath a verdant rockery. You can lie in the bath & smell the ferns!. Along with a fully equipped kitchen, plenty of clean white linen, and good books, she is the perfect location for a getaway with family or friends. There is loads to do in the area, which boasts mountains/ beaches/ extreme sports/ golf/horse-riding/dry-slope ski-ing /great golf & even a car racing circuit all within easy reach.

About The Owner

We live overseas in Asia- and have done so for years. India/Malaysia & Singapore mainly. Dan y Graig was purchased in 2015 because we loved the location, with its expansive sea-views yet littlle-known feel where one can still be a true local. The neighbours have exceeded all our expectations of neighbourliness,

The Owner purchased this cottage in 2015

Why The Owner chose Burry Port

Dan y Graig is over 200 years old, built as a MIner's cottage in around 1800- it was a 2 up, & 2 down cottage. Now renovated, yet its charms remain.

We love it because its a getaway, it lies on a single track road just up out of Burry Port, which has next to no traffic. It sits under a beautiful rockery which has been allowed to grow all around the back.

Yet its clean & bright and white inside. The conservatory on the front adds space & light and a place to eat in the summer. The viewing platform is great for coffee. Yet its only a stroll downhill to the harbour, the beach and the coastal path. We loved it on sight. Hop you all enjoy the place also:)

What makes this cottage unique

Location- for the best places in Wales. Its only an hour away from the best Welsh beaches (Gower & Pembrokeshire). Its near enough to the Brecons for day hikes, it has the coastal path & Pembrey for cycling/walking/riding & it has lots of quaint, barely used 'bridle-ways' straight up the lane to explore for wet days and half-day hikes. Burry Port is a Welsh town and not a 'touristy' place- which means you'll be treated as a local. There's real 'local' food and beer and the pubs are friendly. Dan y Graig is a place to wind-down, spend time with loved ones, read books and talk, time to rejuvenate. If these things sound right for you, then its a winning choice :)

Lovely peaceful cottage with everything we needed

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Dan Y Graig. The cottage was perfect for us (family of 4), and Sarah and Kendrick made sure we got there OK and settled in. I hadn't done that much research on what was in the area before we got there, but Burry Port was just the perfect location to explore the nearby tourist sites. Bring your bicycles as the cycle lanes are just amazing!

Thank you very much from me and my partner for a brilliant, peacefully and quiet getaway. The cottage was so charming and lovely to stay in. It was clean and we were very happy to find on site parking which was a massive bonus for us.

Thank you very much for Kenricks hospitality and making us feel welcome.

Thanks again Gaz and Yaz

Owner's Response: That's so good to hear Yasemin. So happy Dan y Graig met your needs for a post-Christmas Getaway. Hope you found some of the lovely walks in the area, and the great Fish 'n' Chips. Many thanks for being great guests and doing the 'extra's' as you left, we really appreciated you both for this. Happy 2017 & come again :)

Extremely high standard of cleanliness, good quality bedlinen/towels. Well stocked kitchen, toiletries in bathroom and the biscuits and milk were greatly appreciated. The games and books were a great addition and kept the children entertained.

Very knowledgeable host greeted us upon arrival.

Great pre visit communication from owner, directions greatly appreciated.

We had a fantastic and relaxing family holiday.

Good value for money

  • 5 of 5

Here's a bit of local advice -this should whet your appetite for the Welsh experience :)

Hope you have great weather. There are great walks - on remote hardly-used bridleways to explore right up behind the cottage- just stay on the small road Dan y Graig is on and head on up. At the end of this road is a bridle path which leads -through green tunnels- up to the Pembrey Mountain Road which has great views in both directions. There is a viewing point at the top- it's about a 1 1/2 hours walk from home. These are rarely used paths - so you have to search for the way and follow your instincts a bit! The area is not 'touristy'- which is why we bought the cottage (!) but if you've a sense of adventure go for it - basically you just have to walk down towards the sea and you'll find the Graig hamlet, and therefore, Dan Y Graig!! Enjoy.

Another winning walk is just along the Millennium Coastal Path in either direction W or E- you can walk all the way to Pembrey Park if you go W- (maybe 2-3 miles) where there are enormous expanses of beach (Cefn Sidan sands) especially at low tide - we just love walking (part way!) along there because the skyscapes are so vast - 9 miles long- so we have never got to the end!! I’ve posted photos of these sandscapes. You can get coffee/snacks at a small beach shop. Pembrey Park is the place for horse-riding - they have a stable and day/half day rides I believe - at good prices.

Kidwelly Castle is a nice place and rarely full of people - lovely old Welsh ruined castle.

A good place to eat is the Bryn Gwyn - in the next village -Pwll - en-route to Llanelli- maybe 2 miles drive on the road on the left-hand side - always filled with locals who really know how to enjoy themselves :)- especially Fri & Sat nights - get there around 7pm for a table :) Phone 01554 741117 to book:) There's a friendly pub in Burry Port town centre also- The Cornish which has seats outside on sunny days and has a good value food menu. The other new place is a coffee shop/cum Post Office The Penny Black- right on station road – the only main road in the town – with really good Hot Chocolate - I’m told! The newest place is Whitfords right in the centre of town- a bit more up-market -but it’s just started and prices are reasonable at the moment- and it’s had good reviews from some of our guests. It has a good website.

Burry Port beach front is lovely and there's an old lighthouse which is worth a walk to - good place for photos and wind!

As the reviews said- there is capacity to bake/cook- all my Mum's kitchen ended up in the cottage - and she was a great baker - so please enjoy- apparently the oven rumbles a bit at first - don't worry - it will stop. And, for book-lovers the living room is full of them. Enjoy :) Sarah
