Overview

About the property

Positioned on the edge of a quiet hamlet, the pretty stone built cottage enjoys views over the surrounding Limousin countryside, and has a generous size garden for those who enjoy being outdoors. The cottage retains its period character and charm with the original bread oven, beams and two log burning stoves plus electric heaters. There is a cosy lounge with dining area, a separate living room, kitchen and ground floor shower room with w.c., with two good size bedrooms: the Master Bedroom with double bed and en-suite bathroom and a Family Room with two double beds plus a single bed. The garden has sun loungers, dining table and chairs and barbecue. Attached to the property is a barn where you will find 4 adult bicycles and 2 teenage bicycles along with table football, badminton set, tennis rackets and boules.

There are three villages within 6 km, with restaurants, convenience store, boulangeries and more. A super base to explore the region with the towns of St Junien and Rochechouart close by and the city of Limoges only a 30 minute drive as is the Martyr village of Oradour-sur-Glane with its centre de la mémoire. Further restaurants can be found in the towns of St Junien and Rochechouart.

Bread Oven Cottage is situated in the Périgord-Limousin Regional Nature Park, a short drive south takes you into the Dordogne, with beautiful places to visit such as Brantôme and Périgueux or venture west into the Charente Department to the city of Angoulême or the famous brandy producing town of Cognac. We have also enjoyed day trips to Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux and Royan on the Atlantic Coast along with Salat, Rocamador, Cahor and the medieval town of Saint-Cirq Lapopie in the Lot Department to name a few.

There is so much to see and do close by, a great place for walking, cycling, golf, tennis and of course boules, with many swimming lakes, outdoor and indoor swimming pools close by along with restaurants, boulangeries plus convenience stores in the surrounding villages.

Peaceful and Wonderful Bread Oven Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Bread Oven Cottage, La Peyrat

Having travelled and holidayed in France over many years the ‘Bread Oven Cottage’ at Le Peyrat and the surrounding area has to be among the most enjoyable, rewarding and memorable. The peace and calmness, apart from the occasional call of the little owl or the nearby woodpecker at work, was inspiring. No phone, no Wi-Fi or internet and a television that only played DVDs was a delight. Looking forward to the daily evening DVD became a treat and again the fiction novel took on a fresh meaning.

Its central location allowed an ideal starting point to visit a wide range of attractions. These included Castles and Chateau dating back to at least the 12th Century with Richard the Lion Heart and later French nobility being prominent. Larger centres such as Limoges and Angouleme were of easy reach, but some of the much nearer smaller towns were well worth visiting.

Finally, the hosts of the “Bread Oven Cottage” at Le Peyrat should be complimented for their preparation of, and welcome to their property, which met all our needs for the stay. Warm wood burner when needed, comfortable lounge and very comfortable beds sealed our 10 out of 10 rating. Thanks to them both for letting us share their wonderful property, which we wish all the best for the future.

Owner's Response: Thank you Bernie and Lorraine for your lovely review. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your time at the cottage. We also enjoy time away from the internet but it is reassuring to know that it is possible to access 3G at the property and free wifi can be obtained at the nearby village. It was lovely to meet you both and we look forward to seeing you again in the future. Regards Barbara and Pete

A highly recommended cottage

  • 5 of 5

We were delighted with the following:

Excellent directions to the cottage

Welcoming and helpful hosts

Cottage was unusually well equipped with all the things holiday-makers need ( eg kitchen utensils, wood for the fire, maps, and cling wrap ! ) and more ( eg bikes, games, tennis racquets )

Home - grown tomatoes

Outdoor furniture

The absence of TV and Internet were not a problem for us. There were plenty of DVDs, books and games and Internet at every Tourist Information Office in nearby villages and towns.

A great place to stay and we would highly recommend the owners and their home.

A wonderful peaceful property.

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous time here. The cottage is very well appointed and the gardens are great to enjoy the French sunshine. Barbara and Pete were very friendly on both arrival and departure. The limited phone signal/service were not a problem to us as it is available in nearby towns and villages. A great base to enjoy the peace and quiet of rural france. An area which we shall be returning.

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

Bread oven cottage is absolutely charming, extremely comfortable with lots of little extras to make it a home from home in the heart of the French countryside. Whilst being rural, there are lots of amenities and places of interest fairly nearby. Lack of wi-fi made us all a bit nervous at first but actually it was great to have a break from tech for a fe The owners are lovely - extremely helpful, informative and made our first visit to France with our small children all the more pleasurable - always happy to help and answer any questions prior to us leaving U.K. and giving advice when required. The hamlet is absolutely lovely, very quiet and picturesque. The cottage lacked nothing, with lovely comfy beds, a charming little kitchen, two sitting rooms with wood burners for extra cosy evenings, games, dvds, books and lots of garden games in the large attached barn (and a BBQ), and we could even pick a delicious tomato or two growing in the huge gardens! Would highly recommend Bread Oven Cottage - full of little luxuries yet rustic and charming too.
