Quaint Old Style Cottage

  • 4 of 5

Cottage was nice and cosy and was equipped with lots of crockery, bedding, books, games, leaflets on activities etc. Was clean and tidy and plenty of storage for clothes. Was nice to have use of a washing machine and two shower rooms. Staircases were uneven and hard work for younger children and two bedroom areas were at each end of the cottage. I suppose this is what this old cottage was all about. Just was hard work having a young child with us. Patio garden area had shrubs overgrown sadly, so couldn't really sit out there or put up washing line. Parking was ok most of the time being able to park outside the side gate leading to the cottage garden. Few occasions people using the pub parked there making us park further down the road or on the corner itself. The junction just outside the cottage is a very busy and noisy one! Having windows open throughout the night often woke little one up when bikes or cars revved outside the cottage at this junction. Great location for a base to explore the surrounding areas and the local pub, Bullers Arms, across the road was very welcoming with lovely food choices. There is a little shop and a post box in the village and not too far from Bude town which has more shops, restaurants, etc. We found a great leisure centre next to Morrisons in Bude which has a water slide and wave machine. This proved valuable on the wet days. Plenty of places to visit within an hours drive from this base.

Lovely cottage but ...

  • 3 of 5

Lovely quaint cottage, really sweet, low doorways but otherwise ceiling height ok, opposite the pub (great beer and good food), sadly the cottage was let down by smell of stale dog, no toilet roll (luckily we arrived in time to get to the shop!) and no welcome pack - although a supply of individual milk portions and a litre of vegetable oil! Washing up liquid provided but no cloth. Mains fed shower is great but electric one is poor. Bed comfy. Could get phone signal in bedroom only, free wifi in pub. Would choose a different cottage next time but would travel to the pub - Bullers Arms.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review of Corner Cottage. We are sorry that you found some problems with the cottage - it is, of course, a pet friendly cottage and there are frequently dogs staying. I have been to the cottage myself and there is indeed a faint pet smell and I guess some people are more sensitive to this than others (I know that our cleaning staff had done everything possible to remove traces of the previous canine occupant!) There should have been loo rolls left for you and I have reminded all staff (some of whom are new to us this season) that this must be done. There's a dishwashing brush in the drawer next to the sink. Sadly Corner Cottage is not one in which welcome hampers are provided (we used to supply a cream tea voucher but this isn't available any longer). The mains shower is indeed rather good but the second shower is limited by its type - still nice and warm just lower pressure. In respect of the phone signal - we are in Cornwall and signal is always hit and miss - it's part of the attraction to some! Finally, we wholeheartedly agree about the pub - fab food & ale & occasional live music. We hope your stay wasn't badly affected by the above and that you had a good time in Cornwall. If Corner Cottage wasn't to your liking we have several other cottages nearby - give us another try: we aim to please! Kind regards, Mark Cornish Bay Manager
