About the property

Beautifully converted barn in stunning, quiet location. Skiing Cycling Families

The Haybarn - Stunning old building that has been renovated with a sympathitic eye, leaving exposed stone work and beams but also delivering all the mod cons.

Sleeping 10 in two large family rooms - In one bedroom there are 2 single beds (which can be joined to make one super king size), a en-suit shower/wc and 3 single beds on the beautifully crafted, wooden mezzanine above. The other bedroom has 2 on it's mezzanine (which can make a super king), 3 below and and en-suit bath/wc.

There is a fully equipped, modern kitchen and dining area, a downstairs WC, a lounge with a wood burning stove and private terrace with a BBQ and pic-nic table. Amenities include; French sat TV, a DVD player, laundry and ironing facilities, high chair, dishwasher, microwave, games, books, a BBQ and a cot for babies (sterilizing equipment for bottles available on request).

The gite can be joined internally with the one nextdoor - The Stables (also listed on this site - #1938926 ) - which sleeps 8 in three rooms and has similar facilities, together they are listed here as Gite du Vallon (#1888276). There is a large garden for the enjoyment of both gites.

Pets are welcome and there is a secure kennel area for larger dogs if needed.

Secure bike/ski equipment lock up.

There is a Chef living on site should catering be required and a baby sitting service available. Bed linen and Towels can be provided at a rate of 7.50 Euros per person per stay (payable cash on arrival).

The hamlet of Chantelouve itself is tranquil and calm, set on the edge of the Ecrin National Park, the scenery is spectacular throughout the year. There are plenty of walks to be taken just by exiting the front door. For cyclists there are VTT trails running through the village and surrounding area and Boug D'Oisans, Les Deux Alpes & Alp D'Heuz are between 20 and 45 mins away (by car). Skiers and snowboarders can also enjoy the mega resorts of Les Deux Alpes & Alp D'Heuz in the winter plus our local and reasonably priced ski resort of Col D'Ornon, which is a couple of minuets away by car. In the summer there are many local lakes offering sailing, fishing, swimming etc, most with restaurants overlooking the water and fab local food.

Getting Around

There is no public transport in Chantelouve, to enjoy the area you really need a vehicle and snowchains or tyres are a must in the winter.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We really enjoyed our stay even though the lack of snow meant the local resort was closed. Alpe d'heuz and les2alpes are about 3/4 hr away (of the two we prefered Alpe d'heuz which has better slopes and a really fab restaurant by the airport). The accommodation itself was immaculate and seemed to be very recently done and the bedrooms were really vast with vaulted ceilings which you can't really see from the photos. The fire was wonderful in the evenings and they even supplied us with a basket of logs. We will be back!

Lovely gite with gorgeous views

  • 5 of 5

The gite was modern, comfortable with lots of little touches such as the log burner which was lit ready when we arrived. As it snowed the warmth was very welcome! The view was lovely and we went on a few walks in the local area which were all different but scenic in their own way. The sun came out and the snow melted leaving the trees in their autumn colours to admire. A special relaxing break before the busy run up to Christmas.

A spacious yet homely gîte.

  • 5 of 5

My friend and I spent three days in this gîte.. too short a stay, but as comfortable and relaxing as we hoped for. What we loved about the region was it's rugged, untouched paysage. We spent hours walking! Chantelouve is quaint and remote (a good thing) and we were happily relieved of the hustle and bustle of life. The gîte was clean and cozy, tastefully decorated and provided everything we needed (all modcons included); even a private garden and barbecue. As the gîte is quite big, we didn't feel ´on top' of each other which we appreciated. We had a lovely stay and are already hoping to have a university reunion here. Sincere thanks to the owner!
