About this property

"Sea-la-Vie" - where sea, nature and universe comes together...

Idyllic! House linked to secluded beaches and private nature tracks amongst fynbos, with uninterrupted views of the Atlantic Ocean and the most beautiful sunsets.

Large open-plan accommodation which flows onto a sweeping deck with pool. Indoor and outdoor barbercue areas creating one large entertaiment area around the pool.

3 spacious bedrooms (all en-suite), large and modern kitchen/dining/lounge/bar area, TV/family room and a quiet reading study - with sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean and breathtaking sunsets from nearly every aspect of the property.

Very safe and secure due to a sophisticated and fenceless security system, which allows freedom to roam the nature reserve and secluded beaches, yet allows a safe retreat to enjoy your sundowners and barbecue at the end of the day.

One of the best places to explore the universe! Our status as Nature Reserve creates the near ideal environment to enjoy the constallations, stars and planets. Artificial light in the estate is kept to a minimum with a lack of street lighting to give that real Africa feel.

Grotto Bay is close enough to Cape Town - 45 mins by car - to enjoy all the entertainment and sightseeing it offers, yet far enough to retire to a quite, tranquil setting afterwards. The winelands with a massive choice of wine farms and cellars - starting with Groote Post a mere 7 km away with a much larger variety within a 40 minute drive from our house - make Sea-la-Vie the ideal location for the wine connoisseurs.

And for the visitors that yearn to see African wildlife in their natural habitat, there is Buffelsfontein Game and Nature Reserve - only 30 km away. You can expect to see lion, cheetah, rhino, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, blue wildebeest, kudu, eland and many more species during the gamedrives.

Only 5 km further from Buffelsfontein is the West Coast National Park. Yet another nature reserve with various species on antelope, as well as beautiful picnic spots and trails overlooking the Langbaan lagoon and surrounding ocean.

Beyond the hills behind Grotto Bay lies the quaint little village of Darling, with a number of good wine- and olive tasting venues, as well as breweries of different home beers - definitely worth a visit. Also situated here is the very famous theatre: Pieter-Dirk Uys's 'Evita se Perron', with a number of little shops own to the local community. If you love Afrikaans comedy, this is surely not to be missed.

Away from it all holiday
The house looks fantastic in the pictures and it did not disappoint on arrival. My wife and I did all the tourist stuff in Cape Town last year so this was just our time to relax. We knew the house was away from nightlife etc. but the setting and the advertised pool area sold it to us. Unfortunately the jacuzzi does not work and has been out of service for quite some time something we were not advised and the pool was freezing. We think the main fault with this house is that it is just not really set up as a holiday rental, the state of the art cooker and microwave is one example as there were no instructions left in the house on how to use a very complicated and expensive looking built in microwave, the people who look after the house for the owner of the property did not know how to operate it either so not wanting to break it we did not use it for our two weeks. Just think that the owners need to take advice from other owners on how to set up a holiday home. The local beaches and sunsets are stunning and the wildlife endless, we even saw an African Wild Cat sitting on the wall by the pool one evening!! One last thing there is no internet at this house so this made the lack of the jacuzzi even more annoying.

We lived in the UK for nearly 28 years and spent many years sailing around the Mediterraenean on our yacht. We returned to South Africa in 2011 and settled in Grotto Bay.

Why they chose this property

We decided on Grotto Bay due to its proximity to the metropolis of Cape Town, yet far enough to be living in totally nature environment. We love the sea and have spent many months on and in it while sailing. But we also love the wildlife, and this little jewel has produced the opportunity to be closely associated with both.
