About Philip Montoya

We live in Suffolk and both work within the horse-racing industry. We bought our house in the Dordogne after falling in love with the region on our first visit 6 years ago. We have had a great many wonderful holidays here and hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Why Philip Montoya chose Saint-Rabier

We love the individual character of the 'cottage' and the situation it enjoys, overlooking the rooftops of the village and the valleys beyond.

wonderful little home in a little Perigord nord village

  • 4 of 5

Wonderful little house, full of all the amenities a family of 4 might need for a comfortable 7 day stay. internet and cable works a dream for those lazy and cold nights. We live in France so it was a luxury to see a bunch of English books and magazines peppered about and I had control of the zapper one night so it was English tv. In the fall months you already need a warm fireplace which comfortably radiated heat on the main and upper floors. The bottom floor room is a bit cold without another form of heating, but it was still fine for us. This house is a revised house in the local style with exposed beams and the furniture is simple and charming, there are probably sufficient amenities and space for 5 people. There are not that many amenities in the local village, but a bar/mini market... but the town a 5 minute drive away has your bakery and a town with a pharmacy and look out for the pizza guy who brings a real wood burning oven in his antique old truck! You are about a relaxing 45 minute drive from Sarlat and Les Eyzies

Good base for touring the area.

  • 4 of 5

Nice old property typical of the area. Lovely comfy beds with good linen. Well equipped.Good views from the front terrace where we got the sun most days. Garden full of fruiting trees. Nice large parking area. Karen the caretaker very helpful as couldn't find property the first night during the dark. Walking distance to a restaurant. Supermarket a 10 minute drive away at St Agnan towards Hautefort. Remember if arriving late that French supermarkets shut around 8pm if not earlier and always check before you leave if it's a French national holiday most will be closed.

Would just add to the owner to fix the shower in the downstairs en suite as mentioned by another guest. Stairs to attic bedroom very steep.

Lovely house in wonderful setting

  • 5 of 5

The house has been beautifully restored and offers very comfortable accommodation; a highlight being able to take meals on the veranda and take advantage of the amazing view. There are many places of interest to visit nearby and outdoor activities are available also.

We loved our stay in this gorgeous house and plan to return next year.

Compact, well appointed and characterful

  • 4 of 5

It was just what we required for a family of 5, with the addition of an amazing view and a garden full of plum trees. When a thunderstorm put out our electricity for longer than the rest of the village, Karen the housekeeper was very efficient at sorting out the issue for us too.

We spent a lot of time travelling further south, but agreed that was worthwhile for a slightly shorter arrival and departure journey, and to be staying in less of a holiday resort.

Only little things prevent me from rating this property as 5 star - the ground floor shower is not very good, but the upstairs walk-in makes up for it, getting at the washing machine requires some ingenuity if using the powder drawer, and the information in the welcome booklet about the opening hours of Azerat municipal pool were not accurate.

Haute Vue at St Rabier- #1934137

  • 4 of 5

Lovely well equipped property in a fantastic location. Terrace views were amazing and so was the garden/orchard with its barbeque and garden furniture. Good area for parking two vehicles.

Customer Service directly from Owner was Excellent

Excellent proximity for sightseeing close to Hautefort, Sarlat, Perigeux and more. The biggest recommendation we can give is that we would definitely stay again. (The Carpenters from Gloucesershire uk)

Beautiful cottage in tranquil setting

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I stayed here in the summer of 2015 and were swept away by the beauty of the village and the amazing views from the cottage.

The facilities were perfectly clean and tidy and all you would need for a self catering holiday with spacious rooms, lovely garden and comfortable living area. A particular highlight of our trip was Kayaking on the Dordogne which is easily accessible from Saint-Rabier.

We would recommend this property to both couples and families looking for a relaxing break in a very traditionally French location.

Perfectly situated for visiting many of the region's chateaux, including Hautefort,Chateau de Losse, Chateau des Milandes, Castlenaud and Beynac, all of which we have visited and highly recommend. The gardens of Marquessac, Jardin L'Imaginaire and Eriygnac are all worth a visit. An absolute must however is a trip to Lascaux 4, The brand new €57m project that exhibits the excellent ancient cave paintings that this area is famous for, (Only 15 mins drive away) just outside the quaint little riverside town of Montignac. Furthermore, also recommended is the amazing Gouffre de Padirac. Visitors here descend over 100m via a lift or staircase to the deep chasm below. This cave system is regarded as "one of the most extraordinary natural phenomena of the Massif Central" . For the more energetic, Kayak along the Dordogne or Vezere rivers and enjoy the stunning views of the castles overhead. Take the scenic drive to the medieval town of Rocamadour, a very famous pilgrim site set high above a gorge. The picturesque old town of Sarlat is a must, with its cobbled streets and many restaurants, galleries and shops. For the more gastronomic connoisseur, St Cyprien market is a feast for the senses and after all this activity, the plethora of superb restaurants in the area will satisfy every palate. Of those close at hand we can certainly recommend Le Mule Blanche in La Bachellerie, Francas in Cherveix cubas, Le Mandragore and Jardin D'or in Terrasson. Look out too for live music nights at the Marquee, Periygnac where you can also enjoy a pizza or salad anytime.
