About the property

4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sleeps 12, large private garden/pool in village centre

New to rent, but Le Bourg has been in my family since 1615. It is in the heart of the village of Bourg St. Andeol. Our family occupies the upper floors of the house only occasionally (usually in winter months).

The entire ground floor and secluded garden with swimming pool is for the exclusive use of guests. New bathrooms, utility room and kitchen appliances and swimming pool were installed in 2016. A new terrace was installed in 2017.

4 bedrooms:

(1) The Garden room (x1 double bed, x 2 single beds)

(2) The Grand Piano room (x1 double bed, and a grand piano!)

(3) The Green Room (x1 double bed)

(4) The Piano Room (x1 double bed, x2 single beds), with en suite shower/WC

Family Bathroom (double sink, separate shower, separate toilet, washing machine & tumble drier, ironing facilities)

Living room - an area to relax with dining table and sofa/chairs. This was originally the kitchen for the main house and retains many original features

Shaded pool-side dining area, with seating for 12. Sun-loungers are provided

New for 2018, a shaded patio lounge area, with comfortable seating

Swimming pool is 6.4m long x 3.5m wide x 1.4m deep, the summer water temperature is ~26C

Why Christine Ashcroft chose Bourg-Saint-Andéol

New to rent, but an ancient house, it has many original features, family portraits and artefacts...it's like touching hands with history. In 2015 we refurbished both bathrooms, added a utility room with a washer & drier and upgraded the kitchen.

Our family occupies the upper floors of the house only occasionally (usually in winter months), the ground floor, including the secluded private garden and swimming pool (6.5m x 3.5m x 1.4m) are for your exclusive use.

What makes this house unique

Bourg St. Andeol is at the crossroads of the Ardèche, Drôme, Gard and Vaucluse. The Gorges de l’Ardèche, with freshwater swimming and canoeing are a 15 minute drive away and the ancient castle town of Grignan is 30 minutes away. There are many local vineyards, our favourite is Chateau Rochecolombe, with their award winning Cotes du Rhone!

Bourg St. Andeol is a classic French village with the added bonus of being where the renowned French wine Cote du Rhone is produced. Staying in Le Bourg is the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in French village life. From the sound of the church bells marking the hour or waking you up in the morning, to taking a stroll to the bakery for a fresh croissant at breakfast time the old village has all you need within walking distance.

Only 12 KM away is Saint-Martin-d'Ardèche, situated at the Southern entrance of the Ardèche Canyon, the Gorges de l'Ardèche. Here you can relax on a sandy beach, swim in the river (lifeguards and roped area) or hire pedalos or canoes.

Only 27 KMs away is the the UNESCO world heritage site, Grotte Chauvet-Pont d’Arc, Ardèche. These earliest-known and best-preserved cave drawings in the world, dating back as early as the Aurignacian period (30,000–32,000 BP), making it an exceptional testimony of prehistoric art.

For a day trip one can visit Pont du Gard (66 KM) an ancient Roman aqueduct that crosses the River Gardon in the south of France. Located near the town of Vers-Pont-du-Gard.
