About the property

Sleeps 2-6, Max 7.

Located in the heart of the historic and very pretty village of Robertsbridge, close to Battle and in the middle of 1066 countryside. The cottage is situated on a quiet lane that leads from the centre of the village two minutes walk away in one direction, and beautiful open countryside in the other. Although recently fully restored, the original features dating from the 18th Century remain. The house is cosy and comfortable with central and underfloor heating, as well as a large open fireplace in the sitting room. Based over two floors, downstairs consists of two sitting rooms, a dining room, cloakroom and modern kitchen, whilst upstairs there is large bathroom, two double bedrooms, and a third room with a bunk bed and additional single bed. Behind the house there is a large mature garden with lawn, patio, table and chairs.

About Sophie

Bought initially as a holiday home for our own family whilst living and working abroad. Now having returned to live in the UK we use the house ourselves at the weekends when it is not booked.

Sophie purchased this cottage in 2009

Why Sophie chose Robertsbridge

We fell in love immediately with the character, charm, warmth and cosiness of such an old house. We also appreciate the convenience of a village with local shops two minutes walk away as well as main line station with excellent train services to London, historic Tunbridge Wells and Hastings on the coast.

A peaceful Christmas getaway

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at Cricket Cottage over Christmas, and enjoyed the peace and quiet of village life. It's a cosy, well equipped house, simply furnished, with plenty of room, and well maintained. Owners were very helpful in ensuring all was ok when we arrived, and there was a very nice 'welcome pack'. There was also handy things like a herb/spice rack, cling film, foil etc, which you don't always get at holiday rentals. It has a very homely feel to it. There is a huge kitchen with everything we needed to prep Christmas dinner (for just us 2), and for a larger family gathering during the week. Only 30 minutes drive from Hastings, where my husband enjoyed some early morning fishing on the sea front. Lovely outlook at the back, although far too cold to enjoy the garden... -7 deg C first thing one morning.. but the garden and countryside looked wonderful, all dressed in thick frost. Some good walks around the village for walking off the excesses of Christmas . Great little bakery and coffee shop at the bottom of the lane, and a handy One Stop Shop. The fire went really well, although we certainly didn't need to light it to warm up the house as the heating was really good. We got more logs from the Country Store which is up by the railway station, behind the car dealership. Only the parking was a bit of a problem, as we couldn't get parked anywhere near the house when we arrived, so unloading the car (which was full to the brim) was tricky. We also had a large van in front of one window all week, which was not a great out look, but luckily he moved on the last day so we were able get the car parked close for loading up again. Of course most of the houses were not built with car parking in mind! I see the house had a garage a few years back (I guess it was converted from another room at some point), but it has now been converted back into a second lounge. That's the only reason I haven't given it 5 stars. If I was to be ultra picky, I would have liked to have a radio in the kitchen (or main lounge).

Lovely house in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We wanted a holiday cottage near Battle so that my 82 year-old mother could re-visit her old school and childhood haunts, and this lovely house in Robertsbridge was the perfect base for three generations of our family for a week. The house is extremely well-equipped, especially the kitchen, and beautifully clean and welcoming. At least four National Trust properties are within easy reach, as is Hastings and we really enjoyed the Jerwood Gallery, Sissinghurst, Batemans and Bodiam Castle. Robertsbridge is a very nice village with everything in walking distance including a shop at the end of the lane which never seemed to shut, also a good pub and bakery. We all loved our week here and the house is one of the nicest holiday properties I've stayed in.

Beautifully furnished Cottage in stunning village location: Robertsbridge

  • 5 of 5

If you're looking for a warm, comfortable and beautifully furnished home from home, this 7 bed cottage is a real delight.

We were attracted to this cottage by its village location, its location in relation to the Sussex coast and the fantastic log fire in the main reception room. We werent disappointed. The kitchen was very well equipped. The owners had put a lovely hamper of local produce together to make our first cuppa and breakfast the next day rather delicious. The beds were a dream to sleep in too. The property has a reasonably sized garden although we didnt spend much time outside. The village has a convenience store at the end of the lane. Its close to Bodiam, Mad Jack Fullers follies, the Jerwood Gallery and Old town at Hastings. We even enjoyed a day out in Brighton's North Lanes. If you're one for pubs, theres two in Robertsbridge both selling Harveys. And if you like a browse around some classier than average Charity Shops, there plenty to satisfy in Battle and Heathfield.

A great week in a great place. We'll be back soon.

Perfekte Unterkunft für Familien

  • 5 of 5
